If you look closer down towards the bottom of the engram there is a tear showing that the engram is actually green and only gift wrapped in purple. http://www.bungie.net/7_Bungie-End-of-Year-Update---2014/en/News/News?aid=12472 This leads me to believe we're getting nothing of value. Not sure why Bungie can't give everyone a legendary engram. Don't think it will break the game to do so.
