Typical random fire team:
"Guys, just follow me, I know a trick... I saw it on YouTube"
-wipe. Dude was full of crap and can't push. Soon won't matter. Better start learning.
"I can't use the relic. This is garbage I hate Bungie"
-wipe. Frustration at own inability to even attempt to learn a role is directed at developer. Will soon leave fireteam unannounced in hopes of finding a team that can better carry him.
"Can we hurry this up? I don't have all night"
-wipe. Someone hasn't managed their time. They get more angry as they lose, causing their skill to drop. Raids take time. At least we have check points.
"..."
-wipe. No mic.
"Where do you guys need me? And do you want to try hard after this?"
-wipe. Still using a blue primary with 245 damage. Is also stuck on thorn bounty. Also will leave unannounced to find a team that can better carry his ass.
"Ok guys."
-wipe. The one. A player who has experience, who's willing to share that information and pass on strategies they feel are effective. Might not beat the boss on this sitting. But the five players above have leaned something to take on next time.
But not every team is gonna beat it.
I am fully confident that every player who's currently making excuses for their lack of versatility will attempt the raid and learn the roles. I won't say "git gud scrub", because each job, even the relic, isn't as hard as you think.
If you're not properly geared, then sorry. The taxi isn't going to be as easy as before.
Every player deserves to beat the raid, but the game allows you plenty of ways to acquire better gear.
Come back when you can help us.
So we can help you.

Well said.

What a great post. Too true. Then you get the knucklehead that says. "Hey guys is it OK if I bring my lvl 25 (14 year old) son along for this raid? ...wipe....
-
Come back when you can help us. So we can help you.
Yes. Hes not saying you have to be 30 to come with me, hes saying don't be a 27 expecting a carry.
-
Just out of curiosity...please enlighten us on the other "...ways to acquire better gear". You CANNOT reach 30 without the raid gear. So, your premise is patently false.
-
Raids can be done on normal at lvl 27. You can purchase legendary gear with marks you earn from, well, you know. And by doing other non raid activates, you'll have coins. Coins to by xur exotics. You can level the legendary gear up high enough without spending shards and be lvl 27. Max out your exotic gear. My point had less to do with armor and more to do with weapons. If the RNG gods haven't blessed you, that's too bad, but you can purchase a solid purple gun and put some levels in that. I never said anything about lvl 30. The crummy thing is, yes, you have to do some normal vault repitition and praying to RNG gods to get raid pieces to allow doing the hard raid. Now if you're talking about the hard raid at lvl 27, this would be a different conversation. Like I said before, this isn't a "get gud" post. I'm not trying to sound condescending. With Atheon being able to be cheesed, it allows for taxi service. But that's coming to an end. And the random teleport just compounds the fact that the team needs to be solid. My whole purpose of this post is to say that you can get viable before coming into the raid. I'd be happy to help whoever with strikes, etc. I only started raiding last week. And I've been playing since launch. I got a taxi for atheon on hard. It was nice. I tired a fresh run from the beginning with nothing but 29s (me included) and got stuck on oracles. It's tough. Hands down.

Raids can be done at level 25, but for the best chance, wait until 27.
-
You can hit 29 without ever going to the raid if you get 13 coins for one exotic piece of armor (upgrade it) and fill the rest of you armor spots with full upgraded purple.
-
You can hit 28 without touching the raid, nuff said

You seem to imply that better gear can be had regardless of whether or not you do VoG. And RNGesus precludes some people from advancing to higher rank than 28. Furthermore, without some people getting the help, they have to burn their Ascendant Shards on upgrading non-raid gear, so they can then get to 28 and hope to get the gear that will get them to 30 (for which they then need to acquire more shards). People helped me at 27 to do VoG and I was most appreciative of their help. I was the "ok guys...where do you want me"...only we didn't wipe so much. Sometimes it pays to be nice. You obviously didn't learn how to run VoG on your own...that goes to the first clan that did and posted it on Youtube. Since then, everyone knew the puzzles and strategies to try. Try not to come across as such a sanctimonious prick. If someone is being a scrub, then boot them. However, sometimes is good karma to pay it forward.

Edited by Gekko135: 10/20/2014 10:56:48 PMNo need to get nasty. Save your shards. As I said in a different reply. You can be lvl 27 and not spend a single shard. Pony up some coins to XUR and max an exotic. That might take you to lvl 28. But 27 or 28 is irrelevant if you don't put out good damage. So a good gun is needed and there are plenty of ways to get a solid gun outside the raid: -Shadow Price (bought with marks) -The Devil you Know (great for the Supplicants) -Other legendaries that are purchased at vendors to compliment play styles. Buy a gun from Xur if he has something amazing. And then after that jump in with some people. If you get elitists... then screw them. Leave them and find a different group, there are plenty of people playing. Starting getting that experience. And then... well start praying. Pray to RNG that you get a raid weapon like the Vision of Confluence or Atheon's Epilogue. If you get lucky, then that gun will be your new baby. And the whole ordeal will be a lot more manageable. And for the record, wether you want to believe me or not, I didn't watch any raid videos. I ran with a group and we suffered through it. I've since passed on my knowledge to whoever wants to listen while we play. And with all the people i've added from finding raid groups, i'll get bored and check to see what people are doing: If I see a 5/6 playing the vault, i'll join up and help out. Even if I won't earn anything. Joined up with a group last night where I learned a new technique for getting the templar beat without him teleporting. It does pay.. to pay it forward, I agree. I feel this petition doesn't solve anything. Guardians help each other on the field. Not behind a desk computer. I can't wait to show Bungie that "we got this". Cause weeks ago, everyone thought the raid was impossible. Now look at us. Cheesing aside. Just make sure you prepare yourself. So we can help you help us.
-
I imply exactly what I stated. You can hit 28 without touching the raid. Its a fact. As for going into it I sugest starting at 26. I will not take 25 into normal, and I will not take a 27 into hard. If you're any lower than that you plain ol shouldn't be in there. The point I was making is you have reason not to be at the recommend level due to the fact that you can even hit normal recommend level with blues still on.

Edited by Gekko135: 10/20/2014 5:20:50 PMNow do I agree with the change? No, I don't. This WILL make things more difficult. It's already tricky enough with a solid team. I'd say my issue is the glitches. That's what they need to patch instead of something that wasn't broken. But I believe that we all can come together, suffer, adapt and beat this. I really do.
