I am currently having an inner conflict about my primary weapon choice. If you have read the title you can guess what those two weapons are. I have a very distinct love for both types of weapons specifically my two legendary weapons; My HC "The Devil You Know", and my SR "A.13X-RYL" (sorry if I misspelled it).
HC- My Hand cannon has enormous stopping power with a secondary ability of Crowd Control (A kill increases dmg for a short time) and has some of the best crit dmg in the game for a primary. But it is a more close to mid-range weapon with poor far range combat.
SR- It is simmilar to the HC but has less stopping power but is made up for by pinpoint accuracy even in movement! It has a secondary ability called Firefly (kills with crits cause that enemy to explode) and is unrivaled in long range combat in comparison to other primaries. But it has the opposite ranges than the HC, it is a mid-range to far range weapon, with lacking ability in close range combat.
Please help me in my decision. Thank you.
Your opinion on the matter?

Edited by silencer: 10/1/2014 12:17:34 AMIt very much depends on your play style and build, I'll use the Titan as an example. A Striker would probably benefit from the HC more, as his core abilities either work up close, or get him close to enemies. Offset that with a med/long special (Some Fusion or a Sniper rifle) and you're golden. On the flip side, a Defender usually benefits more from staying at range buffing their damage or defense and using the Scout with a Shotgun for when enemies get to close (and you deploy his defensive melee buff) Note that those are "typical" applications, both subs can be built to support different play styles and as far as I have seen is the rule for other classes too, I'm just the most familiar with Titans. So yeah. It depends on which one you prefer, or if you can't tell try both and experiment with build choices to see what floats your boat more. EDIT: That or do both, depending on what you are in the mood for.

Why not master both?

2 RepliesI used the scout through the entire campaign, but when I got dead orbit to level 3 I got a legendary hand cannon now I love hand cannons!!!
-
1 ReplyYour weapon choice should go with your play style, even determine your play style. If you choose to use a hand cannon, don't walk in to a longer-ranged gunfight. As with the scout rifle, try to avoid close quarters at all costs.
-
Scout rifles need a buff, IMO. Hand cannons are incredible post patch 1.01 (After the Beta, I mean).
-
1 ReplyWhy not just use both? There's still nine slots for holding primary weapons- I keep the strongest one of each type in my inventory and just switch based on the situation or style I feel like playing to during that match or mission

4 RepliesEdited by Hostile AKs: 9/30/2014 2:32:39 PMHand cannon/sniper covers short mid and long range. Scout/shotgun or fusion covers short mid and long range. Which do you prefer?

8 RepliesTwo great choices here, but I'd probably go with hand canon, because mainly I like to stay mid to close range so it's pretty good for me, if I go long range it's cause I got me a sniper rifle. Scout is good for all but close range really. It's kind of like the DMR and BR in Halo 4 (don't know if you've played but you'll probably know what I'm referring to if you have). It really just depends on your playstyle I guess. If you like to hang back a little farther then I recommend SR. If you get up close and personal, then probably HC. Just make your pick and then make sure you gauntlets add to their reload speed! :)

1 ReplyI have "Lord High Fixer" (Crucible Legendary HC) and the same Vangaurd Legendary SR you have. They are BOTH REALLY good weapons. I used LHF in the first part of a raid run, and it acquitted itself nicely. I was sniping Vex Hobgoblins off their post in the Templar stage. But that legendary SR has the range and accuracy to compete with any Sniper rifle. If I don't find a good Exotic AR, or if the planned Buff or "String of Curses" upgrade doesn't improve Bad Juju...I'm thinking of making it my main weapon. I'd carry both, and let the situation determine which one you carry. Especially with the planned SR damage buff up coming. If your in a situation where most engagements are going to be close-to-mid-range....rock the hand cannon. My best Crucible rounds were with LHF as my primary...and I never thought I'd be a fan of HCs. But if you're in a situation where things are going to be more mid-to-long range....or switch back and fort between close and farther away...then I'd carry the SR. If/when I go back to the raid, I plan on carry the SR this time. Not because the HC did badly, is just you really need accurate long range fire in that part of the raid to silence the Hobgoblins sniping at you.

personally ive tried to like the SRs cause of their looks but, theyre just so bad at close range especially when youre in a cluster of enemies that you got caught offguard with. i wish there was an ability that allowed for a higher fire rate also. hopefully the new update which is supposed to buff their damage will change my mind about them later. handcannons in my experience are not bad at all for range aslong as youre not trying to literally snipe with it. i notice the damage goes down according to the distance of the enemy. that said, i love my handcannon. its my go to gun for everything. i love the feel and feeling it gives you when you pop off those one shot headshot kills and clear an entire group of enemies with just 5-8 bullets (1 bullet per enemy). PS im a very avid HC user. possibly addicted.

2 RepliesHand Cannon, Chain of Woe, Gunslinger's Trance. Pours out buckets of damage at medium range, and you have 10 seconds to land the next precision kill, so once you have a 3 stack going, you can relax and take your time placing each shot. I need a better crowd control grenade to go with it, though; the AI is now smart enough not to walk into swarm grenades. It's great for closing off a flank, but I'm hearing too many swarms explode harmlessly.

I would do handcannon for PVP and Scout Rifle for PVE. I generally use my Aries Nemesis scout rifle (the one from the Crucible vendor) which also has Firefly when I run around in PVE because I don't need the stopping power of a handcannon, and I prefer the range versatility. In PVP I tend to prefer my SUROS Regime because I feel like any other choice generally leaves you disadvantaged due to balance issues, but otherwise I use my fully upgraded Thorn which is admittedly somewhat lackluster. It's much better once you unlock the lingering damage but is easily outclassed by some of the higher impact and larger mag size handcannons (6 round non-upgradeable mag sucks).
-
Situational for me. Handcannon for midrange to short. Scout rifle for midrange to long. I usually prefer being upclose so the handcannon gets the nod.
-
If you get lucky enough to get a dropper version of Devil - as I have, it has absurd range between the first unique perk and a perk in the 2nd tiered tree. It is INCREDIBLE.
-
scout rifles all the way
-
scout rifle and shotgun/fusion rifle for close range
-
I'm using scouts on my hunter, I love them, but its all on what you use, honestly, what do you use for your secondary. Handcannons are close to medium range, they have a bit of spread, which makes them pretty bad at long range, they are great against single enemies, great crit damage and the impact can let you stun lock enemies. But the scout rifle is incredible at clearing lots and lots of small enemies, really fast. If you're really this torn up about it, switch back and forth depending on mood and situation, I moved The Last Word to my warlock, so the only weapon I don't use is the pulse rifle.
-
2 RepliesI love my scout rifle, it kills everything (outside PVP) :3
-
i think its about your playstyle, i love the hunter with his knife and melee so my preferred weapon would be the HC then.
-
6 RepliesSeems to me like you have a thump gun for every occasion (short, medium and far). Go with what the situation calls for. I currently am loving on the Lord high fixer hand cannon and it's beast. Super high impact, modest fire rate, 11 round clip(or 14 randomly thanks to an upgrade), random bullet in mag does bonus damage as well as an upgrade for increased range. I pretty much snipe with the thing and it has enough fire rate to be good at closer ranges as well.
-
1 ReplyI would pick hand cannon for the extra percision dmg bonus. Scout Rifles are getting a buff not sure when so they might be a very valuable option later. Right now the pulse rifle beats scout as the pulse burst does the same dmg as a scout with more spamability on yellow mobs.
-
4 RepliesHave the Thorn HC and two legendary scout rifles...the vanguard scout rifle a1fx blah blah, and visions of confluence (raid scout rifle, does bonus dmg against oracles). Switch between all three of them depending on situation. Just upgraded the "Visions of Confluence" to the oracle bonus can't wait to see how quickly it demolishes the oracles.
-
1 ReplyI love them both equally and switch between them often as the situation calls for it. Phalanxes are practically handcannon-proof for me, though. especially if the "don't flinch" heroic modifier is on, so i suppose the scout rifle wins.
-
6 RepliesI was wondering if scout rifles dropped beyond the "uncommon" category, because they haven't for me since lvl 18 and I've been forced to use other weapons :(
-
3 RepliesI snipe the hell out of heads, and usual get one shot kills, with my hand cannon and it's only a blue...
-
I like my New monarchy scout rifle. Has the range of a sniper with the reload speed of an auto rifle. To top it off, the perks are astonishing and the damage is great.
