Delete The Portal. Save Destiny 2

Vanguard Ops. Crucible. Patrols. How does Bungie restructure the game to best serve these entities? I'll explain- Vanguard Ops Strikes Dungeons Raids Arenas How it works- Strikes. The core of Destiny 2. Linear Missions. The good ole days reminiscent of Bungie's origins with Halo. Create a randomized queue. No more multitude of Nightfalls. Just a random queue that shows which Strikes are coming up. PLAYERS then select the difficulty (Base, Masters, Grandmasters). High difficulty strikes with locked loadouts pause prior to launch. Let's players reset their build. Everything else just launches. Reduce player dilution in the Strike/Fireteam Ops playlist. There are 3 options and that's it. Base. Master's. GMs. All of them have Matchmaking. Dungeons. The 3 man mini Raid. Super unique to defining D2. Playlist them with 2 on rotation for farming. Pretty straightforward with few changes, because it's already a mostly perfect system. Everything farmable at all times is problematic as it drives player dilution. An issue that is rearing it's ugly head thanks to the Portal and Fireteam Finder. All can hit 1x per week for each character. Two farmable. Raids. The activity that has defined D2 as a genre. The pinnacle experience for any Guardian. Even as a non-Raider, I recognize the prestige associated with the activity. These can be similarly structured to Dungeons for the same exact purposes. Reduce dilution. Drive players together. The only options for playlisting them? Coms with AI systems checking for Coms vs Do Not Care for Coms queues. Arenas. Dares. Wellspring. Salvage. Ketchcrash. Astral Alignment. Menagarie. Sun Dial. Nightmare Containment. A newer concept that is starting to take root in the franchise now. No more rotating loot. 1 randomized playlist with difficulty selection. Main purpose is to serve as a casual place for 6's to hang out and goof off with a reward. Those who can recall the past seasons with these at the forefront likely have some of their most fond memories in Destiny associated with them. Arenas are to Strikes what Raids are to Dungeons. Casual linear progression with endless ads and minor mechanics. The Crucible 3 v 3 Elimination 6 v 6 Control These are the bread and butter of PVP. Are there other niches that satisfy niche gamers? Absolutely. But are they meaningful to driving skill progression, MMR and a competitive experience? Not. At. All. This is a highly contentious opinion and I'm no stranger to the fact I'm likely crushing, nay, amputating toes with this. But PVP should be entirely reduced to these 2 entities. 3v3 Elim. 6v6 Control. Nothing more. Nothing less. The most important aspect of this? MASSIVE player dilution solved and HIGHLY ACCURATE SBMMR. This lends to intensely competitive experiences for Guardians and truly balanced lobbies. Patrols Patrols. Once the crowning jewel that defined the entire franchise, Patrols are now a meaningless entity that have detracted from one of the most beautiful aspects of this universe- Exploration. There is still endless potential within the planetary environments regarding public events, lost sectors, and patrols to offer meaningful progression and adventures. A rework would be in order for players to have the adventuring aspect of D2 renewed in their beings. Some planets are still masterpieces in the eyes of the community (Dreaming City, Throne World) and the depth and potential that lies within them is lost without incentives for engagement. For this reason, these worlds should have rotating events & loot based incentives, along with some alterations to the difficulty of the planets and Fireteam Sizes. I've always thought it's a shame we cannot stack with 6 and patrol and chill. Salvation It's imperfect. I know that. But player dilution is going to become a serious concern as time passes with The Portal and delayed timelines. D1 still exists and works as a franchise. Why? Because there is little player dilution. Solving the dilution crisis is paramount for Destiny 2 to continue. With or without new content.

  • Portal isn’t going anywhere unfortunately. They’re quintupling down on their garbage idea.

  • The portal turned an open world game into a curated playlist. 👎

Player Dilution... Explain what you mean by that. We can start there. I wonder if anyone actually read this... "Everything else just launches". Everything just works. Strikes. [ One node, no choices except difficulty]. If you play GMs, change your kit every run... right? Many players will need to do that. Backing out every time they get a strike they don't want. That's good for servers. And not just that... you might as well remove all but the 3 easiest GMs. And I bet you... that even if you did that... people would still be backing out. And how long is the pause, I've stood idle for 20 mins waiting for people to rebuild their kit... KNOWING what the modifiers are. Or are you removing modifiers with this rollback. Limiting choice, agency... and increasing server disruptions? Dungeons. Do the Math. Is the pairing always the same? Absolutely ridiculous. Raids. Do the rotation math. And, "Coms with AI systems checking for Coms vs Do Not Care for Coms queues". - explain this. How? What if you enable text chat but the team wants to use discord. Why do you need AI to determine if players have comm settings on? Arenas No changing loot? So backout until you get the easiest one, never play it again once you get your drops. PvP Sbmm... strict sbmm. Patrols - "Once the crowning jewel that defined the entire franchise" Are you serious? "Raids. The activity that has defined D2 as a genre". How so? But not the crown jewel? That's patrols. "Dungeons. The 3 man mini Raid. Super unique to defining D2". How so? Dungeons are not a novel concept unique to Destiny 2. TLDR... Your solution for D2 is to remove choice and agency create an rng nightmare for everything. Kill PvP completely. And, basically turn D2 into an even more limited version of D1. Which is the precursor for this exposition in its direction. I don't think this is it. 😇👍💠

          • The saddest part is players can come up with ideas to fix the game and even lore respecting story ideas. But, wait for it, Bungie CAN'T.

            • Agree with everything except the PvP. Give me a party mode in PvP where I can take games completely unseriously. Some of my best PvP memories are in Scorched, Rift and Mayhem. Heck, bake them into the 6 Vs 6 control you suggested if you want or just have a 6 Vs 6 be completely rotational. I like control, but believe me, it gets old after a while when you keep getting people not playing the objective, goes doubly so in zone control where not playing the objective completely hinders your scoring.

              • Would add a possible world tier to patrols like keplar, make them fun to do and earn tier 4/5 loot that way

              • Remember back in D1 Y1 the power of patrols and even more public events. There were even websites that showed when and where the next PE was going to be so we could rush to them. Then there was the true GOAT of events Escalation Protocol the father of all seasonal post campaign events. Man how we loved it and played it over and over never tiring of trying to get a fun run in. There was Crota and it was both simple but also just pure fun to play. Every Thursday night my pre-clan clan mates and I would run Crota and laugh and have fun then jump into VoG. Then on Sat's we would go out and help others run these and then Kings Fall all Sat afternoon/evening. So much fun and playable for all because we, as guardians actually had fun and wanted to SHARE that fun. BRING THAT EXCITEMENT AND FUN BACK!!!

              • I hate the portal, but I doubt it will be fully deleted. One thing bungie is, is stubborn. They will latch onto a bad idea like a junkyard dog latches onto a bone. Hell, the portal was an idea they shut down 13 years ago and still it rears its ugly head
