What’s the reason for having multiple Guardians?

I see pretty much every Destiny player has one of each Guardian. I was wondering if the story missions were different for each Guardian class? Why do you have multiple Guardians? What’s the benefit here?

Still Hunter is my favorite, then Warlock and finally Titan.

    • Cuz it'll get damn boring playing as one class.

    • From my personal view, the benefit is simply having access to all classes and all abilities, and having more fun and more to do. For example your friends want a Warlock for the Raid Run right now - then you can provide one (granted, if your team is really good with Raids, it doesn't really matter what class anyone is). You can try out more things like beating missions with different abilities, you can have a better use for some gear and can try out all the Exotics. You even have more slots to save gear, if your Vault is full. Disadvantage is the increased time consumption among other things. I guess in the end it's just personal preference. I usually run several characters or saves in any of the games I play, so I'm used to it.

No the story and missions are not different for each character, would be cool if bungie put that much effort into the game.. but nope. The point is leveling up your light level. Bungie made it so you dont benefit from having three of the same class.. so to level faster, you need all three classes.

      • Because I enjoy all of them. Also, being versatile in a raid group is very helpful.

Because every class has different abilities. That's like asking why people use more than one weapon type.

        • It's mainly so you can blame dying on any jumping sections on the fact that you "usually play on my hunter/titan/warlock" and you "can't get used to this stupid jump/glide/leap".

          • Along with what other are saying (except that one guy with 3 Hunters), if you have the time to run the weekly Milestones on all 3 characters, you can steadily increase your Power level at a more rapid pace. I would suggest (as somebody who ran only one character for quite a while in the beginning of D1) at least start a second and third character (one of each, Warlock, Hunter and Titan). You might find that you gravitate towards one, but all three can be quite beneficial for a variety of reasons. ex... One of my friends mains a Hunter and primarily uses Nightstalker for his sub. I will change my class and/or sub-class to match what will work best for him using that class and sub. If he wants/needs to run a different character, It may benefit us for me to jump on my Hunter and run Nightstalker. In other words... The more classes and sub-classes you can get comfortable with, the more enjoyment you will have with the friends you play with.

            • You can also get 3 times more rewards for things like milestones. This helps a lot with Iron banner and faction rally dailes.

              • Imagine a car dealership where you could lease up to three different cars all under your one original contract. The price for one is the same as the price for three. Each car has its own unique cool features. One is really sleek and sporty. One is really big and intimidating. And one is really luxurious and well appointed. Why in the world would you choose to only take one home and deprive yourself of the opportunity to drive all three?

                • Adds some variety to the game if you ever want to switch up your gameplay. Also, they nerfed your drops if you do the 3 dupe character stuff. So no point in having 3 of the same class.
