The end of Destiny as a franchise? WARNING: TEXT WALL (now in spoiler form)
Dear Bungie, In my youth, you developed halo, a franchise that took off immediately as one of the best video games of that era, and will live on in our memories as one of the best game franchises of all time. You took us on an adventure through space and blew our minds as the story of master chief unfolded before our eyes. You created one of the best player versus player experiences of all time with the Halo series becoming a staple of LAN parties everywhere. Jump to E3 2013, with the gameplay reveal for Destiny 1, our collective jaws dropped at the beauty and possibilities you showed us, the merger of RPG and FPS was almost mind-blowing, the potential that destiny had was un-measurable, and you took us all by surprise yet again. The release of Destiny 1 on September 9th, 2014 was one of your greatest triumphs in gaming, you delivered on many of your promises, but failed on quite a few. Yet we collectively enjoyed your fresh new IP for the most part. I have always defended your game, from the start when everyone complained of a lack of story, complained of having to go outside of the game to read grimoire cards, and lack of content. Sure I've had my complaints, but I never felt like giving up. Then you did it, you gave us the vault of glass, the most fun anyone had on destiny to this day. Damn near every player at that point who had not already done so, shelled out the cash for your expansion pass and yea it was good. Then the dark times began to unfold. The release of The Dark Below locked players out of content for the first time in your series, no one noticed, everyone had the expansion pass. Crota's End, while good, would never live up to the Vault of Glass. Players found it disappointing, glitchy, and flat out broken with the flip of a switch, or the yank of a cord. The House of Wolves locked players out of content yet again, but still, no one noticed, we all had the expansion pass. The Trials of Osiris brought out the worst in your players, the rampant cheating, the DDoS attacks, and the lag switches, all for the coveted exotic emblem. You gave us the prison of elders, the new endgame activity, grindy, repetitive, boring, and you milked that DLC for what seemed like a decade. You betrayed our trust as gamers, but there was a light at the end of the tunnel. The Taken King breathed life back into a game that was quickly growing stagnant, the player base that was leaving turned back, and guardians gathered by tens of millions to return to fight the darkness once more. With Kings Fall we fought Oryx collectively as if it was the meaning of life, raid challenges made what would have been grindy and repetitive new and fresh. But all was not good, you had a sinister plan to cut out a good half of your player base, you blamed them for your problems and the players believed you. You revealed the rise of iron, and those on the last generation would be left behind with an unfinished story, and wanting more. I was one of them. I desperately wanted to continue the story and it would cost me much more than the price of a DLC. on the release of rise of iron I went and purchased a ps4, I also then had to RE-buy destiny and all expansions in order to rejoin the masses, totaling over $400 for 1 game, not even a game, a DLC. The Rise of Iron yet again locked players out of content, and this time, players noticed. The majority of your player base turned their backs once more and destiny was dead from then on. The Wrath of the Machine, while epic, was too difficult for the majority of your player base that remained, and those of us who completed it laughed in their faces. This left a bad taste in the mouths of us guardians as we begrudgingly slogged through the grindy repetitive and boring story, the lame challenges, and the broken player versus player endgame. We waited patiently, knowing that Destiny 2 was just around the corner. The Destiny 2 beta was uneventful, but the most important part was revealed. The player versus player experience was changing, and not for the better. What used to be a fun 6v6 experience for the elite and plebs alike, was now a 4v4 constant sweat fest and no longer fun for anyone. Snipers, shotguns, fusion rifles, now all require heavy ammo, as if they were rocket launchers or lmg's (which are mysteriously missing from destiny 2 with no reason given) which brought the high-speed action of Destiny 1's crucible to a halt. Was it your attempt to break into e-sports, an effort to reduce latency, or an attempt to pander to the casuals? Either way, it was bad. But no one knew just how bad it was going to be until the full release of Destiny 2 in September. The release of Destiny 2 was again, overhyped and not worth the praise it got, as players would find out over the weeks to come. The lack of content, the garbage weapons, the gear that flat out didn't need to exist, and finally, the mediocre raid. You've ruined your franchise, you've destroyed your own reputation, and yet there where still players willing to try and defend your actions, but I could not defend your game anymore. The player base was hemorrhaging and they would not return. And now here we are, the first DLC for Destiny 2. You locked players out of content yet again. You turned your backs on your players in favor of the almighty dollar. You have no more fans, you have no content, you have no game. The DLC added no substance, and still no end game. You have failed us all, and you should feel bad. I will not be giving you one more dime, and I will not waste one more hour of my time feeding on your table scraps. Curs of Osiris is a failure, please let the next DLC be a Taken King that brings life back to a dead franchise. This is not coming from a place of entitlement, it comes from faith in you as a developer. The belief that you can do better. We all have seen it, we know you can do better. We want you to succeed. When you please your player base, everyone wins. When you turn your backs on your fans, your company fails, and its only a matter of time before Activision does to Bungie what EA does to everything it touches. We know that the Halo devs are mostly gone, but you still parade under the Bungie name, and with that name comes an expectation of greatness. A greatness that you have thus far only provided a glimpse of in ttk. No one expects you to live up to halo, but at least let Destiny become the legend it deserves to be. For those of you complaining about this being too long, or full of spelling and grammatical issues are missing the point of the post entirely. If you did not read this post, you have no right to an opinion on this post. My words are true, and you know it. Commenting on my spelling errors and grammatical failures is misdirection from the issues at hand. Curse of Osiris is the definition of least amount of effort possible, this is a patch at best, masquerading as a dlc. if you are perfectly content giving them your money for this without complaining then more power to you, but stay on topic at the very least.
Bungie responds... not to me specifically, but to the cry of the majority wich is all that i could ask. i have not read this in its entirety, but a response is a response none the less. Is this a step in the right direction for bungie? or is this too little too late? only time will tell. As someone who already had the expansion the pay wall did not effect me, the bulk of my concern was the mediocrity of the curse of osiris. This was not addressed. As for "free access for all players" no one expects anything for free, but when we give you money for content, and you take that content away from us, we expect you to make right with the community. https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46537

 • Wall of bitching and moaning, YOU are nothing special, just another person on the web that thinks their opinions and complaints actually matter. Honestly, you and your friends, should just try to milk some other game, play something else...this game is actually not for YOU, despite what bungie has said, to a general audience, this game is a community focus...not just the app, not just Reddit, not the f-ing YouTubers, or the twitchers...its for those of us that spend most of our time in game. WE come on here and see these posts, and I'll say the worst part of this game, by far hands down, even with the glitches, is this disgusting forum...that doesn't respect the tab system.
