To our loyal and valued Destiny 2 customers and fans:
It has been 2 months since the release of Destiny 2on console, and only a few weeks since its release on PC. We are writing this to you to address some issues that so many of you, and all of us, take seriously. There are many great and positive things we could say about the success of this game to date, and many of the great features and positive aspects, but those all speak for themselves. There is no need to blow smoke up your ass. There are serious problems, and we take full responsibility for them.
Before we get specific, please understand that we are passionate about this game, and committed to delivering the best possible experience for Destiny customers and fans. We write you now to let you know that we are 100% aware of all of the issues that have been raised regarding the game.
Server Population Decline is Our Fault: The sales of Destiny 2 were tremendous and from a numbers perspective, a smashing success. Successful game sales and in-game sales ensure our ability to pay for the massive development costs of this game, and the ongoing costs of running the game, and adding to the game. When we succeed, our fans win as well. However, we acknowledge that there has been a drastic decline in the number of players actively playing the game, far in excess of what we expected. We acknowledge that this must be due to problems in our design, our implementation, and our responsiveness to customer concerns. We take full responsibility, and we want you to know that we are 100% committed to fixing everything possible to make Destiny 2 the game and experience we envisioned and you deserve.
Lack Of Communication From Us: We acknowledge that we have done a terrible job at responding to community concerns about the game. We apologize. Between the massive job of launching the game on multiple platforms, fixing bugs on a daily basis, and a sense of panic as we realize that this game did not live up to expectations, we frankly have not had the guts to address these issues head on. That stops now. From this point forward, instead of throwing Cozmo to the wolves like raw meat, and instead of treating you like you are idiots, and focusing on ridiculous community aspects that the vast majority of you don’t give a shit about, we are going to respond to feedback on a much more frequent basis, with specific concrete responses. Again, we apologize for our totally unprofessional failure to communicate with you.
Lack Of Communication In Game: It has become clear that player ability to communicate in this social game is incredibly limited and sterile. Matchmaking is a problem. Grouping is a problem. Players should not have to rely on clunky Xbox live to find a group or someone to play with. We apologize and we acknowledge that part of the reason for this failure is our effort to avoid exposing players to the toxic immature asinine players we have to put up with because we can’t screen out morons at the cash register. By eliminating everyone’s ability to communicate, we solved that problem, but we did not anticipate that people would feel so disconnected and that the #1 aspect of this game, social interaction, played a big part in the immediate population decline. We will fix this as soon as possible.
While we’re at it, we acknowledge that the idea that there is no clan chat channel is so incredibly stupid and shocking, it’s reasonable to wonder if we were either incompetent or simply stupid. We’re fixing that asap.
Glitches, Bugs, and Cheese: We did not anticipate that our main raid, Leviathan, would be trivialized by an incredibly simple glitch. We are humiliated that we missed something so obvious. We are doing everything possible to fix it, and to make sure that future content expansions are not equally as humiliating. Clearly, we did not spend enough time testing this game for bugs, because “what happens if someone accidentally disconnects” wasn’t tested but is so obvious that the only explanation for missing it is that we were careless. We are also aware that there are glitches and bugs in the raid itself such as inexplicable launches in the void, inexplicable barrier failures, spawn failures, etc. We are working hard to fix this.
It’s pretty, slick, and missing some soul: We acknowledge that part of our Destiny 2 design involved using the same game space for numerous purposes simultaneously. For example, at the Exodus Down zone in Nessus, people are simultaneously completing quests, public events, and exploring. The end result is something we did not anticipate. It feels gimmicky and totally non-immersive. Same goes with Lost Sectors. The idea that a lost sector is a faction rally point, but you can’t go there with a fireteam, in hindsight, is totally ridiculous. Woops. Our bad. We are working on a fix for that as well. While we’re at it, the idea that the maximum fireteam for a raid is 6 people, then you literally can’t do anything else together such as a strike or crucible, is likewise so stupid that we are embarrassed it didn’t occur to us until after the game launched.
Having the only reward for an incredibly difficult prestige raid being a reskin is pathetic. Sorry. We will fix that as well.
Crucible: Here’s the deal. 10% of the players have more skill than the other 90% combined. That’s how it is, and always has been, and always will be. That means that having PvP at all is inherently risky, because you risk upsetting the portion of that 90% that are too immature of narcissistic or blind to the fact that they’ll never be as good as the top 10%. On that issue, suck it up buttercup. Git gud. We refuse to give up PvP or rewards for the best players simply because most players suck. Get better.
In the meantime, we also acknowledge that Crucible is way too limited. 4v4 and that’s it? Pretty lame. We are expanding options and will have them out as soon as possible.
The List Goes On - And So Will We! - This is just a start. We know we let a lot of you down, and we ask for your patience and continued loyalty while we fix the problems. If you don’t give up on us, we promise to do our best and make this the best game experience possible.
As a symbol of our sincerity, we are crediting every account with 2000 silver, the equivalent of a $19.95 microsoft store purchase. We hope this encourages people to buy silver because - newsflash - this game is designed and run by a business, and businesses that don’t make money go bankrupt, then you’re screwed and we’re out of work. So, enjoy the silver.
Sincerely and Humbly Yours,
The Destiny 2 Development Team (signed by every single one of them)
p.s. We are going to put our egos aside, and one by one, we are going to step up and admit where we made decisions that hurt this game. For example, the faction rally system sounded good on paper, but the implementation has been a total and embarrassing failure. You don’t even know what faction anyone else is in, you can’t tell whose ahead, you don’t do anything different whatsoever that you weren’t already doing, except blow up supplies in lost sectors, which you can’t even do with other people. Honestly, we admit, this is just embarrassing. We will either remove it and apologize again, or fix it, but we promise to quit making posts that act as if the faction rally is something to be proud of...

You do realize that they dont have to apologize when they have nothing to apologize for just because some self entitled child is upset and crying

15 RepliesHow unbelievably pretentious. Game critique aside, how you dare you talk about Bungie putting their egos aside when you - as a single person - seem to think you're privy to more information than you are. Not only are you blinded, as we all are, to what's actually happening internally at the studio, but you presume that such an article would mean anything to this fan-base. Consumers are results-obsessed, and developers and publishers alike are lambasted all the time for articles just like this one. People want to SEE the game get better. That's why Bungie doesn't HAVE to beg and plead for people to stick around: the DLCs and word-of-mouth with improvements will bring the old and new back regardless, a la Taken King. That's why they don't have to explain themselves, because rather than waste their time pandering to upset fans like beta apologists, they instead keep focused on the future and keep their cards close to their chests. When the DLC comes out, we'll see if they've paid attention and addressed the big issues. While they review the data and pay close attention to where their changes went right, and where they went wrong, you will blow 10 or so paragraphs trying to be some kind of patron saint of the Destiny Fan. The prodigal son - come to right all wrongs and tell it like it is. While I'd love to dispute and nitpick at your numerous egregious faults in this article, I'll admit to you that I understand what you're doing. I even agree with some of your criticism. Your tone, however, makes this insanely annoying to read. From start to finish, you're not a good critic or a good fan. You're beating a dead horse like people haven't been complaining about all these issues since the game released. All things in time: about a month's worth in fact. Be patient, watch and wait.

44 RepliesEdited by TheArtist: 11/15/2017 5:21:27 PMDon't hold your breath waiting for that to happen. 1. Its not true. Its simply your (self-focused) opinion about what happened and why it happened. 2. They are a major corporation. Not your girlfriend begging you to take her back, after you caught her out with another guy. 3. Just because a small percentage of the player base is unhappy, and making tremendous noise about it...doesn't mean this game's in trouble. Because it isn't. ...and if you listen to things that Bungie---especially DeeJ---said before the game launched, things are unfolding pretty much as they expected. That the game is "re-branding" itself...and that a percentage of the player base would not like the changes...and would probably leave the game.

1 ReplyOutstanding post.

1 ReplyUnfortunately OG, I see you're getting much hate for this post. I'm with you to a degree - there are a number of glaring issue with Destiny - however, there are so many players out there with little to no standards and it seems there are more of them than us. One of my clan mates is like that - he just likes playing the game with friends and thinks it's fine as is.... My main problem is reward system and economy (stock piled over 2100K legendary shards to date and I only ran 2 characters at 1st). I hoping for major improvements as well and I think the community who expects more should voice it. After all, we are investing into the product. If they don't make an attempt to cater then stop investing money and when they're profits they'll be force to comply. We cant keep giving them money and then ask for changes because then it's too late - they already have our money and therefore no incentive to change anything.

1 ReplyWait are we really getting 2,000 silver or am I that dumb?

6 RepliesThis post is your opinion.

5 RepliesTruth or not, but this paragraph made the decision for me. Get better. You can't insult players and get away with it. I'll not buy the XBox1 DLC.

1 ReplyWhether Bungie looks at this or not.....im pretty sure I love you😂 Somebody HAD to at least put this out there, and I didn't have the patience and memory to type all that lol.
-
3 RepliesNice wall of words. Too bad it’s just another whiny bitch post from a little kid who has never and likely will never create anything amazing.
-
Is it really that hard to play something else? Are people allergic to positive discussions about things they like so they just prefer to not enjoy things. If the meal tastes bad to you, do you keep eating it or do you find something else?
-
Yea this game is shite

2 RepliesOverall, this should be cleaned up to be professional, but otherwise, I find the bulk of your content to be good. I especially agree with the communication from Bungie and the PvP paragraphs. More communication from Bungie would be ideal. Concerning PvP, I'm at best a 1.0 K/D player, so I'm definitely in the 90% bracket, but I don't think the PvP should be as 'balanced' as it is. I hate getting my ass handed to me, but on the flip side, it provides inspiration to get better. So yeah, clean it up, and I'd love to read it from Bungie.
-
People would find more ways to criticize that response than the amount of words in it.
-
Nice wall of text but in a nut shell you want to be catered to. No. I enjoy the 60 I spent on this game so far. I bet you got your rocks off on this wall of incoherent repetitive text.
-
1 ReplyJust letting u know I didn’t read 5% of that wall o text ! Now off to some other post with more comedy responses! This was lame

29 RepliesEdited by SooperSmurph: 11/15/2017 9:27:16 PM... Talks about devs putting egos aside, while demanding that his every whim be translated into the game, what an entitled douche, product of a very competitive divorce if i've ever seen it. BTW I have your reply from Bungie: "Goodbye, you won't be missed."
-
This could’ve been well executed, but I can feel the salt from here
-
No.. just no... stop.
-
They did actually admit to a few of those things and promise to fix them. But considering how many people are unhappy with D2, I don't think it would be a bad idea for Bungie to issue an apology. Preferably followed up with a public flogging of the people responsible for all the major screw-ups, so that we can see they meant it.
-
Yeah, but they have their heads too far up their asses and can't openly criticize their game or admit their mistakes. It's never a bad design or a poor system, it's always that "the playerbase reacted rather negatively" or "disliked some recent updates." They can't even go back on removing special because it was pretty unanimous that no one -blam!-ing liked that.
-
TL; DR, but let's be friends anyway....
-
Bungie: "doesn't corroborate what we have data wise". LOOOOL.
-
Expected this to end in “We at Bungie decided that the best course of action is to nerf fusion rifles” or something like that.
