2 RepliesI just don’t get why this is so shocking to so many people. Our guardian hasn’t spoken since vanilla D1 and even then his lines didn’t add anything. People should’ve seen this coming.

2 RepliesThis was one of the top 3 things I was hoping for Destiny 2 is that our character would actually talk. I feel zero connection to any of my characters because of this. In video games do you know what characters I really feel connected to and care about....Ones like Joel and Ellie....Katros...Nathan Drake....almost every damn character that has a speaking roll. I see my character as just thing thing with armor with zero emotion no matter what the situation. I really hope Bungie rethinks this drastic mistake and gives our character some lines / dialog moving forward. I would not even ask for an explanation on why our guardian now talks where in the past they did not, I would not even question it I would just be happy that it changed. Bungie if you want us to feel connected to our characters than they have to express some type of emotion. The strong silent type just does not cut it in video games. Very few games can pull off the non speaking roll well this type of game is not one of them were it works. I encourage everyone to tweet luke smith expressing that we want our characters to talk. Do it with tact!!! Dont be an asshat about it thats not how we get things changed in the game.

1 ReplyI prefer the silent protagonist for this type of game

It's just silly. You are getting your ass kicked, light stolen, and kicked off the ledge of a giant tower.....and you say nothing. It makes the cut scenes generic and takes emotion out of the story.

1 ReplyEdited by Scorpius XX1: 7/30/2017 4:23:39 AMTo all those saying chill, just use your imagination and fill in your own dialogue, and '' I want to be my own Guardian.'' I ask this, what if our Guardians were blind as well as mute? If one can fill in dialogue, is not reasonable to assume one could fill in images as well? So then why are they not blind, could it be because it's harder to tell a cohesive story in a game without images of worlds that our protagonists populate? Of course, so then why is dialogue somehow an exception to this rule of storytelling? I'll tell you, unless there is a lore reason or a chapter devoted to explaining why, it isn't. Dumb argument. We are not literally our Guardians.

You know even they won't record voices now right, I mean it took months to redo all the Dinklebot dialog plus add the new one, and that was less than 1 hour of dialog. Maybe hope for the September 2018 relaunch (because you know it will happen) for it, not now.

Well so much for getting Destiny 2 I was hoping that there would be more of a connection of my Character not my little light. The Story was all that made me consider getting it for Character Connection now it just feels like its going to be like the taken king semi decent story with longer objective strikes.

All these fools being okay with it. The way our guardian acts is the exact same as the freakin Lego games. Ghost gets knocked off the tower, we reach for him and yell NOTHING. Like the child's game Lego "insert movie license here" do. Shit is supposed to be for comic relief in those games. Do we need comic relief from our guardian in very serious cutscenes? I think not.
-
Because all these little kids can't identify with another persons voice. But can identify with tall, muscular blue men that know space magic and can die over and over. "That's me playing the guardian I don't want him to have someone else's voice!" -well why do you want to have someone else's body?- "Because it's better than mine!" -so why can't you play with a voice- "Because it's not mine!" -well why did you pick to play as an Awoken if you're human?- "Because blue skin is the shiznit!" -so you don't really identify with your guardian at all since he's not like you in any single way?- "No! That tall ass blue dude with space magic is ME!" -well are you mute?- "What kind of bs stupid question is that, we are having a conversation, of course I'm not mute!" -But you, as your guardian, that you think is you, is?- "Yup" -*silent guardian head shake*-

Edited by Surprised Brony: 7/30/2017 1:14:15 PMSorry, what? I didn't quite catch that.
-
I like it tbh, my female hunter looks like the monkey boy from jumanji and every time I saw her talk I felt rather uncomfortable.
-
They should have been mute the entire time. Making then talk for the main storyline was a mistake

3 RepliesLiterally the least of my destiny concerns

3 RepliesSource? Looking through this thread and seeing nothing but screaming n crying
-
........ <------- this is what my guardian had to say about it.
-
It was really meant to be Oh can't you see?
-
Don't like RPGs? Don't play em
even though Destiny is in no way shape or form a RPG
-
Because they would only talk in terms of salt and toxicity ?

1 ReplyI have ALWAYS hated silent protagonists it makes no sense and is very immersion breaking.

14 RepliesEdited by PhraustStryke: 7/29/2017 9:36:50 PMGuardians suffer with severe depression. They do nothing but bring death whenever they meet anything else in the frontier that isn't human or other guardians. To be bearers of light and to bring such darkness is a contradiction. In the crucible we kill our own friends for training, for sport. Who does that? Who kills their friends for... for fun?! Unable to coup we fell silent, we are emotionally broken. Our last words were perfect... "Do you think you can kill a god?" "I don't think I have a choice." It dawns on you as you say it, you don't have a choice, you have to kill. That is all you are, a killer. Not some hero of an age, not some savior of humanity, nor a avenger of the city, but a killer. A killer that can't kill himself, hell you tried, your friends have tried. Jumping off the tower in the city and cliffs in the wild. To free yourself from the neverending violence of murder, only to have you pulled back moments later by your ghost. You lay there contemplating on your very existance. Your very purpose, a reason why you have no choice but to pick yourself up, raise your weapon, and pull the trigger. Why do we only kill? Does it have to do something with what happened before you were risen by your ghost? Some atrocity in your past life that now you have to pay dues by bring death wherever you go? If only you could remember, but there is nothing there. You reach for memories through thick fog of your mind only to grasp at nothing. These questions swirl around your head but are never answered. These thoughts are never silent and you can't focus on anything else, you don't sleep, eat, drink, or shit. You thought the vex were terrible, the horrors hive kings have rot, even the unnatural rise cybornetic fallen, they all pale in comparision to your own thoughts, to your own actions. They are your worst enemy, and those you can't kill, and killing is all you know. So I jump off the tower yet again just for one more moment of silence.

6 RepliesIt makes no difference to me whether my character talks in cutscene or not, I just want to play D2 already.
-
.... I don't get this at all. Is luke Smith a dumbass? No offense but this isn't the 1990s. The moments in the beta that our character was just silent were fricking painful. Heck I could opt in my own voice acting by mouth and it would have been better. Gosh what is this.

For the low...low price of 19.99, you can buy it. Duhhhh.

Eververse loot boxes Dialogue coming soon..

1 ReplyOkay but why even give our guardians a voice in the first place if they were not going to continue dialogue that doesn't include screams and "ughs" when getting killed. Just scrap the existence of the guardian, give our ghost a gun, and go from there.
