I've been playing since September when the game launched. I've seen the progression of the game and its players. I saw how people were excluded from Crota for not having Gallarhorns, people being excluded from other raids for not having XXX for a light level and exc exc... I've always given a lot of players a fair shake but despite that over time I became a bit jaded, got frustrated when people could not do mechanics right for WoTM and started to become a light level snob.
I jumped into a reddit post for this weeks NF for the gold tier score. The last guaridan to jump in was a young kid which for me was strike one ( He was on mic I was not )..second one was that he was light level 385. I thought to myself great...some young kid ( he seemed no older than 12 if that ) and hes barley the required light level. The 3 of us progressed through the NF with out any issues to the final boss with plenty of time on the clock it was going well until we wiped...and wiped again...and wiped again he kept going down early on and at bad times. Our time frame kept getting smaller and smaller. We did beat it with the gold score and in the time frame. At the end of the strike as we were picking up our loot and the party was starting to disband he simply said....Thank You..... it was not so much what he said but how he said it...as if he had been one of these players who had been shunned in the past perhaps someone who kept trying and trying to finish the NF w/ the bounty but was unable to do it.
I Instantly felt bad for what I was thinking before, he left the chat and I sent him a msg. I said I was not on mic but you are welcome and thank you for saying thanks, he wrote back and said thank you. In that instant I realized that it's easy to get off path in this game, its easy to expect to much and to easy to forget that we are also here to help other people out. Gaming is meant to be that escape from everything else in life we get fed up with and frustrated with. The game is not about Ice Breakers Gallarhorns and doing challenge mode, its much more than that. So in short not all the kids that play the game are bratty little COD players, there are some genuine kids out there that just need help and want to play the game.
EDIT: Thanks for all the great replies, it's awesome to hear other people's stories and experiences.
EDIT #2: Never expected this to end up trending but thank you everyone for all the great support and despite all the salt that can run through these forums its nice to see all of the good that still exists out there and willingness to want to help others. Granted there are some real douche's that play this game and as there is in every aspect of life but the I prefer to talk about the more positive things about this game than to be negative.
EDIT #3. The vast majority of the reply's and feedback here have been very positive and I'm glad so many people are able to see the point of this post and the message conveyed through it. For those that have a hard time with that this post is not about me or self gratification, or made up. Through the course of 2000 hrs playing this game since I got it I've received help and given help to a lot of people, I've thanked and been thanked many times during that time frame. It was not just his simple words of Thank You, but the manner in which he said it that made me realize how out of focus people can get in this game including myself. Its the simple things of being respectful and helping other in games and applying it to all aspect of life. If it cant be done at the lowest level than how can anyone expect to be better overall? For those posts that are full of hate and vitriol over doing something nice for someone if you are that hateful over a post regarding a video game I would hate to see how you are in real life, I certainly hope those that are like that can find happiness somewhere in their life or get the help they need.

1 ReplyI am quite young, so I am shunned. Today I wanted to do challenge but the people kicked me because of my voice. Same with trials. And nightfall. I did manage to do it though by shutting up on pain off boot.

Its a nice story and all but was this post not written for the nexus nf which was a bit more of a task ( not actually implying last week was hard) than sepiks which a blind person could do

1 ReplyYou should have been on mic.

1 ReplyMy one rule: "Never ask something of someone that you yourself wouldn't or couldn't do." I only ask that you be able to keep up.

2 RepliesMerry xmas and a happy new year. Hopefully that kid will grow up and do the same for someone else one day.

I was going to post a smartas* comment on this but im just going to say that there is a feeling of reward for helping someone too guys not just the loot at the end. We have all been that guy that hasnt done this or that but we found someone willing to say come we will help. Im willing to run just about anything with anyone. Oh your light is too low for the raid ....hell lets try it never know and if it just doesnt work out no need to be a prick about it

2 RepliesIt's too late for sentiments like these to bear any lasting fruit, unfortunately. Besides, it was up to the game to reward and encourage cooperative behaviour but instead the developers chose a different route. It became a slot casino of jealousy, rage and mercenaries, rather than the community of adventurers is was supposed to be. Rip.

76 RepliesYou know how I found out we need to be better humans? I saw a video posted of Islamic extremists behead a dog, and then people in Aleppo. I saw their videos saying goodbye to the world, because evacuations have been ceased, and enemy forces are closing in on the remaining survivors. Elsewhere in the world, I see every day violence due to race, class, or creed. It's important to remember that this video game doesn't mean a damn thing. Saying we need to be better humans so we can play nightfalls and raids together is completely asinine. We need to be better humans so we can bring peace to the world.

5 RepliesYou fools are tripping! I played with two kids yesterday who were less than 12, both 370ish light - we beat the nf once with 19 minutes left and then again right after with 16 minutes left. Less than 12 years old Gold tier easily on both I'm 400, they're 370's I'm 37 years old - but I'm also a father, step father, and big brother. And you guys who have "requirements" to play a fake ass video game are bitches and/or pussies.

Good post man, said it perfectly and your 100% spot on.

2 RepliesThe 100 is a pretty good website to team you up with like-minded/skilled people. I've had a positive experience every time using that website. As for the rest of the world, I'm hoping we get hit by an asteroid in 2017. It's what this planet needs right now. Maybe whatever eventually evolves next will be better.

21 RepliesEdited by Forgotten: 12/19/2016 3:08:54 AMI'm excluded from trials. My ELO cannot rise if i am not even allowed to play. It stays at the base line of 1500 or whatever. Guess i'll do a raid. Oh never mind i'm 399 not 400. Not good enough apparently. Guess i'll do a nightfall. Oh everyone already did it and doesn't want to help me complete it(god forbid i make money), guess i'll solo it again and it will take twice as long. Guess i'll do regular crucible. Oh jeez look at all the people who want to ride my guardian's gun, never saw that coming noo...(sarcasm)

3 RepliesOne raid team I was on was one of the best I've joined we were able to recover from nearly impossible spots during Visio with flawless rezs and at one pint only one guy but you know what I found out half way through my mic was broken lol I had spent the past hour talking to myself and these guys didn't know they just played they didn't kick me or anything he'll we almost killed aksis with me dancing when I was empowered that was a great team and a great first raid on my titan Story over idk the point of saying that or this or this
or this

vader is a badass in rogue one
Good for you, I helped a 347 complete the gold tier in nf this week which was my good deed. I was not rewarded with icebreaker but was pretty satisfied when he told me he got a 370 helmet drop. His 6 kills definitely helped the team also lol :)

7 Replies(Irrelevant Response) Has anybody done the Outbreak Prime Quest? *WARLOCK*
-
Agreed, OP, AGREED. Keep it up.
-
I completed the Outbreak Prime this weekend with 3 buddies and 2 newbies we grabbed from a community board. One of the newbies took it upon himself to make sure we saw that he already had the Outbreak on his back. "Hey you guys should check out what is on my back" I respond with " Buddy, no one cares about your BF's spooge". Mic Drop!!

Well said sir, though I'm not young by any means (42) I have found it hard to find players willing to help as well. I have one level 400 character and i haven't even been able to finish WoTM normal or hard yet lol. I have been lucky in the past and meet some great people, most have moved on and don't play much any more, so its great to hear that there is still help to be found. Chive on and Happy Holidays to all.
