I know bungie has probably thought of this and intend to release on Year 5 perhaps, Destiny needs content now to keep more players playing, more players = more porpularity = more cash in future DLC or whatever paid stuff they came up with i hope Bungie knows that. Keeping away stuff is just not the way to go.
Faction War Weekly Event and purpose.
This faction war happen and conclude every week, participation criteria are simple, players are require to wear shader, emblem and class item and Faction gear (explain later). The purpose is to make players have a sense of belonging into respective faction, for now faction serves basically no purpose... Except u can wear FWC shader to entertain others.
When Faction War ended, whichever faction that won will have a hall of flags shown in the tower for a week, and players of that faction are given faction packages as a reward, and able to access specific faction vendor for better quality gear, weapons, faction obtainable only weapons/gear. Of cos every week vendor will change their loot table just like the gunsmith/saladin.
Remember that in current patch, everyone are only allowed to switch faction every week, this stays the same, however, a bonus perk should also be introduced if u stay of the same faction consecutively for weeks will allow u to obtain bonus rewards when ur faction won at the end.
How this works
Matchmaking will start by matching players into fireteams of whatever faction they are representing, ie 6 Dead Orbit VS 6 New Monarchy, so matches of Control/Clash/Skirmish continues for a week, and at the end having stats of whichever faction won the most games for that week published officially and declaring the winning faction, also allow players that participated in the faction war to access the faction hall. During the event, everyone will be able to see the progress by talking to faction representatives, so u can just walk up to them and view the progress like (37% New Monarchy - 33% Dead Orbit - 30% FWC) in a pie chart. This will promote more players of same faction to play during the week and to fight harder so their faction will win and allowing them to access the loot afterwards.
In order to avoid letting players that AFKed/idle during the faction war period to access the loot when their faction won while they didnt even participated, everyone required to complete a weekly faction bounty, ie "complete 20 games representing [Faction] in a week" in order to access the loot packages and faction vendors.
"How about if everyone stay as new monarchy for example, isnt new monarchy going to win every week?"
Well, every week the statistics will reset, making even to all the factions, and no one will know the loot table for DO and FWC if NM keeps winning. If there are 10 teams of NM and only 5 teams of DO for example, DO representative will "call to arms" giving additional rewards for players of DO faction if they won at the end.
[Faction Gear]
As of current patch, faction gear serves no additional purpose at all, In Faction War, Faction Gear will have perks like allowing capture zone slightly faster, or giving more points per kill etc... So players will wear faction specific gear for a purpose.
This is just my personal opinion how it should work, of cos u can suggest better stuff in the comments, lets make Destiny better.

An interesting idea but would work only when factions are less fluid. As it is, quest lines require changes in faction. Also, Hall of Flags, prizes for winning factions, etc. would tend to gravitate players to the winning faction, growing that faction until no other could possibly win due to sheer numbers, a horde, if you will. Which brings me to another point: Bungie seems very content to borrow from the book of Blizzard. This would fit right in with the way WoW has tinkered with factions to keep engagement up. I'm not against the idea. I think it needs to be given more thought and fleshed out, something Bungie isn't wont to do of late.

I like the idea, but DO would dominate. So many people choose them.
FWC FOR LIFE
2 RepliesEdited by Executor Hideo: 1/13/2016 4:58:40 PMPersonally, yes. I'd love to smack Arach Jalaal's puppets around an arena. Professionally, I cannot allow it. Faction Wars are the reason that the City first fell into Chaos. They are the reason many of the first Guardians' light were extinguished by their own kind. That is why Shaxx added Bannerfall into the Crucible rotation. It was the aftermath of New Monarchy's last push against the Concordant. It shows us what all parts of the City would be like at all times if the Faction Wars were to restart. It reminds us of our Solidarity against all who seek to undermine the City's efforts, and the Sacrifices we all must make to maintain the peace. We are already fighting a war outside our walls, the last thing anyone needs one within them.

5 RepliesI love new monarchy, don't get me wrong. But besides the greaves, the Titan armor is ugly af. My NM brothers will have to forgive me but I wear the dead orbit armor on my Titan. I hate those -blam!-s, but what can I say. It's fashioned off the HoW vendor set which was some of the best Titan armor this game has ever seen, in my opinion

Seems good

FWC would never win because people only join our faction to take our guns and leave i.e Fulcrum, No Time to Explain

NO Faction Wars are a dark remnant of the City. We should not relive those dark events. Faction based objective challenges (being called something more clever....) Absolutely.

Should be more faction "competition" instead of war. Then a pve implement could also be added otherwise it just becomes another trials/iron banner that people will sweat about. I'd rather see patrol become more valuable since there are patrols tied to the factions but currently have no bonus effect.
-
Would love to see this implemented in some way. I think it'd be cool if you could trigger a faction battle in regular Crucible by creating a full fireteam where everyone has the same active faction. The MM would recognize this and match you with a full fireteam of an opposing faction. The incentive could be increased faction rep gain and enhanced faction-specific rewards. Again, would love to see anything related to faction conflict in the Crucible.

Faction wars was supposed to be thing................... Nice idea, shame the devs already thought it up and decided against it

I think this is a good idea but I believe fwc would be the faction with the least amount of players since everyone is either dead orbit or new monarchy. This could be a new crucible match like once a month like ib. Make sure to wear your shaders, emblems and class items lol

Personally I love me some faction battles, especially for gear if you win. Love the idea and would be a good twist from trials and IB.
