You Killed Crota During The Story, Not The Raid

I've seen many posts explaining how The Taken King won't make sense if you haven't done the Crota's End Raid. So I'm going to explain how you killed him during the story, not the raid. There are two Crotas, his spiritual embodiment that connects him to reality, his senses, and existence and his physical embodiment that holds his soul into a physical and tangible form. But when the wizards were trying to awaken Crota from his realm that exists out of space and time (like the Black Garden), you interfered during the summoning and destroyed the crystal while his soul was still in it, thus trapping him in his realm for the rest of his natural life. So technically you killed Crota by destroying his soul, but since his physical form is in a realm outside of space and time, his physical embodiment survived, thus disconnecting the two. Even though the raid is called Crota's End, you are just literally ending Crota. Crota is dead...sorta, but he doesn't exists within our reality since his physical form is trapped in another reality and he can't cross over to our reality. He is dead in our reality. You are just doing the raid to end his existence in his reality.

You missed the Grimoire card that states that unless you kill Crota in his netherworld, the Hive can simply make more summoning crystals to bring him back. So, no, we DIDN't kill Crota in the story. We killed Crota in the raid. Source: The Wakening Grimoire Card. To further elaborate, even if you didn't kill Crota in the raid, the story will still make sense. This is because other Guardians have done it. The Guardian that kills Crota doesn't necessarily have to be you. It's sort of like real life, where you don't necessarily have to be the one to do something for future events to happen, because someone else already did.

      • Pretty sure eris says something about six going down into the pit and killing crota. could be wrong but whatever. to me, oryx coming for us can be explained as you being in a world where crota has been killed. it doesnt mean your character did it.

      • Wrong. We only stopped is summoning ritual. If we didn't go into the hive realm and kill Crota, they would just keep on attempting more summoning until the succeeded.

      • This is still invalid because there will still be people who have never played TDB and will start TTK.

        • What doesn't make sense to me is (I may of misheard it) that you killed Crota with his own sword? But in neither of them do you use his sword because you destroyed Crota's sword in 'The Sword of Crota' mission.

          • That makes sense cause when Eris and her fireteam and the thousands of guardians fought Croat in his realm he was much more powerful But when we killed his soul he became weaker thus allowing us to kill him in the raid

          • I'm pretty sure we prevent Crota from coming to our dimension in those missions, and then we go into the abyss to finish him off.

          • it quite clearly states you killed "Crota with his own sword" this only happens in the raid, so technicly anyone who hasn't completed Crota's End shouldn't get the TTK storyline.

This argument doesn't even need to be made. Oryx is coming for the guardians because they killed his son. If you never raided, the story still makes sense because there are millions of guardians who did. TTK doesn't hinge on you personally killing Crota, but rather any guardian killing Crota. So that just means that even if you never killed Crota personally, Oryx still shows up to kill get revenge on all mankind (guardians included), and you happen to be a guardian in the firing line.

                • Also the sword is never destroyed or referenced on being destroyed. It just disappears......as your ghost mentions it . I believed that Sword of Crota took place right before The Dark Below...which they're streamlining to. So after you're having fun with Crotas Sword....he awakens, he detected us screwing with it, and summons his sword back to him in his own realm. Thus Eris shits a brick and warns the Vanguard. Also.....why the -blam!- is Crotas Sword out in the open...in the entrance of the Hellmouth. You'd figure such a powerful Hive artifact would be just as far, or further than, as The Shrine of Oryx.

                • "You killed his son, with his own sword" Technically saying we killed him with his sword in the raid, which also doesn't make sense because the sword used wasn't Crota's. His sword also shattered in the campaign. The only explanation is that Acti blew up Destiny into a million bits. Bungie took what little they had and turned it into a story. I use that term loosely. If there's a plot hole then we have to deal with it, not over complicate things to form an explanation.

                  • Yeah but he still got in by another means because he wouldn't be in the raid, the trailers have been saying that we "killed Crota with his own sword." There wasn't a sword in the mission you supposedly kill his soul. Who knows maybe there was another crystal.
