First things first huge wall of text so TL;DR can be found at the bottom.
I don't want to use fate bringer for the next 10 years at all. I want to use something better than fate bringer in the next 10 years but since they refuse to make better weapons why would I switch to something with worse perks on my own volition. Give me a better PvE hand cannon and I'll use it. Don't give me a ruby and then give me a piece of shit and tell me it's better just because you put red glitter on it.
In regards to there not being upgrades. Just why not let us have our old weapons and if I choose to use my old stuff let me. Don't take my cool stuff away and say here use this lame stuff instead. It goes back to the whole principal of I own a ruby and here's some red glitter coated piece of shit.
Bungie if you want us to use new weapons and armor MAKE THEM BETTER SO WE ACTUALLY WANT THEM AND WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM LEAVING OUR OLD STUFF BEHIND FOR BETTER STUFF.
That's all I ask and this is how I feel about it. I have no problem trading my ruby for a diamond but I certainly have one with trading it for some glittery shit.
Bungie listen to your fans and give us something to still allow upgrades. Seriously it's not that even that hard to implement just give us ascendant light or something.
That Is all.
Edit 1: So maybe that wasn't all. Many are trying to educate me on the concept of power creep which I understand. They say power creep would be a bad thing for destiny but honestly ask your self to you think power creep in destiny in non existent? The best example of power creep in destiny I can give you is the lvl system simply by equip better gear you can deal more damage and also take more damage.
For those who say power creep is a bad thing honestly it's not everything has power creep. Even pokemon has it for Christ sake. honestly a lvl 5 learns bubble beam and a level 40 learns hydro pump one is drastically better than the other.
Power creep should exist otherwise why bother lvling a pokemon to 40 and having it learn hydro pump if bubble beam is just as good? Or even worse?
What bungie has effectively done with the vog weapons is made it so that everyone learned hydro pump at level 5. There is absolutely no way to improve on fate bringer ' perks that wouldn't be game breaking.
Their solution so that they can introduce weapons that are better in the future is to give everyone crap guns so that they can improve upon them later. For the pokemon analogy they're effectively replacimg hydro pump (fate bringer) with water gun (TTK and HoW weapons) and saying you'll get hydropump worthy stuff again if we keep playing and more importantly paying. I have yet to see any taken king weapons that are on the same level of fate bringer revealed and based on what we were given as our "raid weapons" in PoE I don't expect them to give us anything worthwhile at all in the TTK to replace a gun like fate bringer.
Now for everyone who said I was just whining which I don't want to seem like my solution is as follows:
Nerf the effectiveness of all previous god tier weapons a.k.a black hammer, fate bringer, found verdict, hunger of crota, Vision of confluence, etc.
This will bring them closer in line to other weapons and allow for power creep to work and for them to give us better weapons.
For those crying no don't nerf X it's my favourite gun you should realize that certain guns in this game were simply too good. For them to give us better guns in the future the guns we have now can't be the best that simply isn't how power creep works. Otherwise the only way to make something better is to make it absolutely game breaking. At this rate 10 years from now well have scout rifles that shoot god damn Wolfpack rounds and snipers that tale out a strike boss in one shot.
The effectiveness of things needs to be brought to a more manageable level. So they can make better weapons. It's honestly really simple but bungies solution is to make the weapons we love unusable and that's no fun at all.
Edit 2: Response from Dregen Yor that was a good analysis of the situation:
Example 1.
Gear: New gear can diversify the current trends by adding pieces that are good, looks innovative and has interesting things to offer.
Difficulties: New activities can alter the way we are used to playing. Adding mechanics and multiple steps to progress activities is a fun and engaging way to do this. Oh you wanna summon the boss? Pull that lever... Sorry, we forgot to mention it's a trap door to a jumping puzzle that has plates with infinite thrall spawns.
But instead, Bungie goes with Example 2.
Gear: "New" Gear, mostly recycled parts and bad designs. Awful perks, but better stats (which are crucial for your continued progress through the game). Instead of diversifying the trends, this simply changes it from one set of 4 armor pieces, and ~6 useful weapons, to 4 other armor pieces and 4 new weapons.
Difficulties: Have I ever told you about my great great great uncle? Bulletsponge Bob Neverdiespants. Also, here are 3000 adds with health pool so large it's not possible to illustrate.
Example 1 lets us build our own legend. Who are you? What do you look like? What tales does yor guardian tell?
Example 2... He's maxed level and has a 365 gjallarhorn. Invite him.
TL;DR: Bungie -blam!-ed up by making weapons too powerful too early on now they have very few solutions. Ascension is the only solution that won't be game breaking as people will still use old guns and be happy and can try out new guns. Without bungie having to create more broken things to please players
The other options and they're problems are as follows:
Solution 1: Essentially taking good weapons out of the game by not allowing ascension and giving weaker guns to restore balance.
Problem: People will miss the old weapons and be forced to use weapons with crappy perks that they do not enjoy and essentially be forced into downgrading their arsenal.
Solution 2: Not allowing ascension and giving better guns than what we have
Problem: While most people would have no problem leaving behind old guns for better ones this would introduce an unhealthy power creep into the game with guns eventually all becoming ridiculously over powered as time progresses.

6 RepliesWatch ttk wont ascend your fatebringer but next dlc will. When they announce it then the community will rage as they dismantled it. The negative buzz still gives destiny hype. You can see destiny is riding on the *talk* negative or positive they dont care

1 ReplyGive it time captn, the game hasn't even dropped yet and you are making assumptions about the state of the gun meta. Far as we know the fate bringer perks will be rollable on any hand cannon and fusions/machine guns will be viable PvE weapons. Give it time, have some faith and roll with it

Your example of power creep if very poor. Power creep isn't the same thing as the natural power gain from gaining level etc. Power creep is when things that should be on the same level gradually get stronger over time. What you described is like comparing some shitty lvl 5 green gun to a lvl 34 legendary and saying LOOK power creep! When really its more like comparing two legendary hand cannons but the newer one has better stats than the old one in every area with no trade off to counter balance it. I would agree with you that they started the power curve too high, but the solution to that isnt to make it even higher. A lot of gun people are using are already way over tuned. Nullifying old guns is a necessary evil for the health/balance of the game. Will it suck at first? sure it will, but it will be better in the long run when they have the ability to make more interesting/dynamic weapons without them all being overshadowed by the current gun pool which are often without any meaningful downsides. It will also be good for variety because you wont have as many guns that are excel in all situations, people will actually have to make choices about how they want to play (in pvp anyways)which will mean there are more gameplay options for beating them instead of just having better aim with the same gun or one of higher strength.

I agree. More is better.. ALWAYS. you obviously will use new weapons when/if better. But forcing lends belief to the new weapons not being better. Nobody is forcing anyone to use old weapons. Still no reason to take them away.. quote from bungie last year regarding our weapons:We want you to earn ‘em. You should be able to tell a badass story for every sweet jewel in your arsenal. Once you earn them, the various Guardians under your account will be able to trade them, but weapons belong to the players who acquire them through action and bravery.

I'm sure they'll have a fatebringer like weapon, if they dont oh well

In year 10 Im gonna use year 1 weapons to solidify my badassness.
Bungie if you want us to use new weapons and armor MAKE THEM BETTER SO WE ACTUALLY WANT THEM AND WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM LEAVING OUR OLD STUFF BEHIND FOR BETTER STUFF.
Again, Bungie is attempting to make new weapons, and better weapons as well. The House of Wolves has arguably bad weapons, but it is an attempt at understanding what works and what doesn't work. It is to be expected that these weapons would be unfavorable, but it is a good flow of feedback that can be used in the future. It doesn't help that people want to keep their old stuff. They can, but it will obsolesce. One last problem is that each weapons' effectiveness and what makes them good or bad is subjective to the individual to the person that is using them. What you think is good may not be the same for someone else. That is probably why Bungie made weapon manufacturers more prominent; each player has their own way of playing and now they have options in regards to the weapons they think will fit them best.

A summary for those who siding read. assumption assumption assumption assumption, wahwahwah.

2 RepliesTake this as a life lesson. You don't always get what you want and some things are out of your control. As I will miss my weapons it was bound to happen. It's a game, take a breath and relax.

1 ReplyLeaked ttk gun perks: thrall burn, acolyte burn, give hive/taken extra health as you shoot them so they don't die. Those are way better than firefly what are you talking about?!?

1 ReplyI see some post saying that it's normal for MMO to have new gear and leave old gear behind as the game progresses. I agree with this 100%. However, in those games the new gears get stronger and better and we no problem moving on. Look at what HoW gave us. Yeah they suck. This is why people still cling to their old stuff. TTK is not out yet and we don't know yet what the new gears will be like. We just hope that they are good and we don't need to think twice about keeping old stuff.
-
Just make the guns better and the enemies scaling at that level. Maybe make it so an unascended Ghorn blast would do the same damage as a normal legendary launcher from TTK to a TTK boss. Make the new guns worth upgrading to.

Anyone else seen the taken king hc with firefly?

1 ReplyPlease stfu! Green armor/weapons from TTK will be more powerful than year one raid gear so stop whining. #Fact

Edited by xilxad: 8/8/2015 4:29:51 AMAgree 100%. All the bungie cheerleader girls on here that run their stupid mouths and offer lip service to bungie butt can bite me! It should be a choice and the reason it isnt is because bungie wants to control how well we do in PVE. Don't believe that? Then ask yourself why they are nerfing ice breaker. The VOG weapons were too good and bungie has been making each new release less powerful. They got a bunch of sterile crap they want to hand out and wether you want it or not you are taking it.

8 RepliesThat's exactly what they are doing. They are making them better than the current weapons. Take your Pokemon example for instance. You learn water gun in the beginning of the game and wreck with it. Are you going to argue with game freak to let you upgrade the power of water gun so that it is equal to hydro pump, and then you can keep using it? No. You have to get rid of water gun an use hydro pump because it does more damage. Same concept here, yes fatebringers perks are awesome, but it's still the water gun here. It's your first go-to wreck everything gun. But your leveling up and so are your enemies. You need that hydro pump, and you might just have to get rid of water gun for it.

1 ReplySo how do the ttk weapons suck? Which one do you have since your so sure they're gonna be worse than the beginning weapons?
-
A big part of the issue for beta/day 1 players is that Bungie sold us on the idea that we would become legend and our weapons that we identify with or become attached to would be a big part of that legend Our characters don't have much identity to start with and taking away the weapons they use takes away from that even more it doesn't help that the weapons keep getting worse... So what if I want to use some old vanilla and/or raid weapons that I find more useful than new counterparts - it is MY legend - shouldn't be forced to change because the damage caps out after a random amount of time
