How can people be so terrible at pvp?
Seriously? It baffles me.
I'm not talking about the people who have like a 0.8kd, at least those sort of people can contribute to the game, I'm talking about those that get like between 0.2-0.4 how can they possibly enjoy playing it?
I genuinely don't understand, I am not at all good in the crucible but some people seem to just be awful.
Edit: Apologies, I rushed the original post between iron banner games and it didn't properly represent what I was asking, I wasn't actually getting on at people for having low Kds, it was more out of curiosity as to why e.g. Is it connection.
Edit: people are mostly saying it's reaction times and connection. Others are saying that their tv has something to do with it and steep learning curves, anyone else have anything that they feel affects them?

10 RepliesAge. As odd as it seems, I really think age has a lot to do with it. As a 37 year old gamer, I struggle to keep a 1.0 k/d. I tweak sensitivity and try different specs and weapon sets, but fail to be triumphant in PvP. I spoke to gamer friends of mine and we've concluded that it is due to our age. I have been playing video games for 30 years. However, the vast majority of it has been PvE. PvP was very limited for a long time. You would have to go to an arcade or have friends over. My generation of gamers is accustomed to AI. Younger gamers have had access to more extensive PvP from the time to first picked up the sticks. As a result, they instinctively are more reflexive when it comes to another person's actions. It would be neat to see the statistics for k/d and age.

I believe the combination of the above and age (which another poster has mentioned) contribute to several cognitive factors that I've not been conditioned to as well as younger generations: I don't believe I can manipulate the visual space (i.e., maps and player movement) in my mind as well as others. I have difficulty processing multiple sources of information (radar, ammunition, fighting more than one individual). I have difficulty predicting player movement (this may be more an artifact of experience). 3. Fine motor movement (i.e., aiming with controller) and reflexive responses--may also be due to age. 4. Knowledge of the maps.

It baffles me when I see someone sporting the flawless trials enblem and consistently going .5 KD in normal crucible. If you got carried by good players to the lighthouse don't brag about it.

I think that new guys to PvP encounter a steep learning curve. It took me about a month to "get it". The last real FPS I played was [i]Tribes[/i] back in the early/mid 90's. My pal just started and he's in that 0.4-0.8 k/d range, but gets hyped for those very few kills. It's cool cause that's what it's all about... fun. Obviously, skill level of the opposite team comes into play and this is magnified as many of the better players jump into Iron Banner. Recently (and understandably) IB has been flooded with PvE players due to [b]etheric light[/b]. My pal included. So a bunch of variables there, but[i] it is what it is[/i]. Finally, (Bungie) it would be nice if we could accumulate [b]more than[/b] 5 loser medallions. It's hard to swallow 7-8 losses in a row [insert complaints about players leaving matches here]. Not that it happens a lot, but it happens. Additionally, lower (depending on the number of players?) the "mercy rule" point cap. When a team ends up with a score 20000+ to <5000 because it was [i]six on four[/i]. Yeah, [b]not fun[/b].

I never actually cared. I run and I gun I die and guess what I respawn and do it all over again. I'm not a fan of respawn but it has its moments like hiding with the enemy team and they have no idea why the flag isn't being captured... Then they realize you are amongst them. Never see my health go down so fast or get into a fire fight and just break out and DANCE! Or see a sniper and play the duck game with him. Making a guy super just to zoidberg out of there (whoop whoop whoop whoop) I do it just to have fun really or if I'm being serious and a team member pushes me out of a snipe shot so I hit a box. Then f that I'm throwing a game.

I am pretty terrible at the Crucible. I just don't play PVP as much as I would like

3 RepliesReal reason... I'm old and my hand eye coordination can't keep up with the youngsters anymore. My top capability is a 4.0 K/D in a match but those are few and far between, normally I'll run around 1.0 K/D but I just have matches where I feel like a punching bag and nothing I do goes right and end up with like a .3. I also tend to play overly aggressive, if I played more cautiously I could likely improve my K/D to kind of compensate for my loss on hand eye coordination. So my overall K/D is around a .8 on my three characters, I still have fun though!

It's possible it was an off game or the were just getting a bunch of kills stolen from them

Mine used to be around 0.4 average, now is slowly climbing and keeps hovering between 0.9 and 1.2 all by using a different TV. Also Destiny's PVP is incredibly unbalanced. It's difficult to get better at something when you're being thrown in against overpowered weapons

I didn't start playing PvP (except for bounties) until 2 Iron Banners ago. I have a measly medal score of you look. My k/d in control is 1.09 for my warlock and 1.2x for my hunter. Below 1 with my Titan but climbing. I have games where I'm boss and games it seems as though I can't do anything. Not sure why. Still learning.

Reasons 1. Refuse to play with the op weapons IE. Thorn 2. Bungies pvp is notorious for being laggy 3. Skill is mostly never actually involved. That only is a reason in balanced multiplayer IE. Halo (excluding halo 4) 4. No one is good at this game until it is properly balanced. Until then they are just exploiters.

I had a game last night where I went 25-11 and here are my teammates' k/ds - 12-17 12-17 9-19 7-18 7-17 I did stare at the results after the game for a good three minutes or so, but then I just moved on to the next game. There's probably been plenty of times where I went 9-19 and the top guy on my team was shaking his head after the game and wondering what the hell was wrong with me.
