Goku attempts it but is too dumb to realise that he can only damage Oryx with the Relic Sword, so on the brink of defeat he calls out to Vegeta and they perform the fusion with the potara earrings. With his increased intellect (get it?) Gogeta uses his super (kamehameha) to grab the Relic Sword from the swordbearer gatekeeper and defeat Oryx.
