First off, I must say, destiny’s community is great. Being a PVE player with 0.68 KD in PVP (0.28 in ToO), not many good PVPers want me on their team – and I fully understand that. This weekend, I came across two super nice and humble guys with a wonderful Australian accent on the bungie forum. They were on a noble mission: go through the four day event helping as many randoms as possible get to the lighthouse. Sure enough, on our first run we managed to get 8-1 card, which to me, was a celebration. But these guys were so determined not to give up on me and got me to the light house. This act of kindness is what defines the Destiny community, and these guys (and others who are doing the same in PVE and PVP) are legends and deserve recognition. Being a young dad, this was the ultimate father’s day experience and a moment in destiny that I will never forget (my daughter surely enjoyed my exceptionally happy mode during a full day of activities). Thank you guys for carrying me!
So what did I learn from this experience?
• The lighthouse is an amazing experience (even though I acknowledge that I do not deserve to be there and that I did not earn the right to be there). There is nothing like it in PVE and Bungie needs to work on that (flawless POE run for example). The ToO weapons are elemental and very useful in PVE, not sure why Bungie did not offer PVE players a PVE path of acquiring them (instead of the extremely rare drop ones on Skolas with useless shank burn).
• For a pure PVE player like me to become a good PVP player, I recommend playing with good PVP players. The strategy, communication, and skill are very different than PVE. For PVE activities, take the Crota encounter, strategy is more or less pre-defined and very little communication is needed (go out on the ledge, shoot rockets, distract boomers, ogre room, etc..). Sure it took time to develop, but once it is on youtueb, it is always going to be the same. In ToO, the strategy keeps changing and you have to be able to adapt and communicate. Playing with good PVP players once in a while can teach a baby PVPer a lot.
• If you are being helped by others, try to be mindful: listening with an open mind to what experienced player have to say. Despite being under skilled, I tried my best to follow instructions: stay back, provide support fire, and revive. “Thank you” and “good job” can go a long way.
• Final point, destiny’s community is great. I have had my share of carrying players through PVE content and I would encourage those that can to help other too. You might make someone’s weekend an amazing one. If you need help, do not feel shy of going to the community for help. You will end up meeting a lot of really cool people and might develop long lasting friendships. After all, it is a game and should stay a game (take your ego out).
TLW: I learned a lot from playing with amazing PVP players and I encourage any PVE player to give it a try..
I got few requests about the guys that helped me and here is a link to their twitch: http:/twitch.tv/diddykongxx

4 RepliesI usually don't play on Sunday's but Sunday was my birthday as well as Fathers Day. Let's just say that I didn't have the amazing time you did....
-
3 RepliesAnd this why I love destiny. I keep meeting more and more people like this and have made some great friendships through this game. Congrats on your trip to the lighthouse dude! The real question is though, did you manage to get yourself a messenger adept?!

1 ReplyThis is an amazing story.

Can those two guys play with me?? I am a father as well and have a hard time finding a team for ToO. I am decent in PvP but had a nightmare time with randoms.

6 RepliesWhat loot did you get

This Destiny daddy appreciates you for taking the time to add something positive today. Good on ya - and on your teammates. I'd like to see that thar Lighthouse, lol
-
11 RepliesI wish I could find some folks like this on PS3. Best I ever got was 9-2 and since then I can't even get 5 wins. My clan hates trials and refuse to play it so I'm a bit out of luck right now.

I find regular crucible different. I can have a way better K/D in ToO than a clash or control game but sometimes I'll get rekt in all lol
-
Great post and happy Father's Day. I'm in the same boat as you, maybe I'll meet nice ransoms like you too and maybe see the lighthouse?! Maybe?! Lol

Helping people out is the best part about the destiny community and what makes it so special :) Regards, BulI & Diddy.
