I'm having the same issue with Hawkmoon and TLW.
I'm getting few kills in for the first time in my Crucible play!
What are the best stats/modes to select on each weapon for PVP? I can never figure out what's the best balance?

Remember that Hawkmoon is capable of the elusive 1-shot headshot (which I got last week, once, it was 223 damage). Always go for headshots with Hawkmoon, stay at mid to long range. Are you a sniper or shotgunner? If a sniper, always use Hawkmoon. If a shotgunner, always use The Last Word. As far as what loadouts to use, use the guns' exotic perks, like Luck in the Chamber and Firing Aces (or whatever it's called) on Hawkmoon. And use the better hip fire accuracy on the Last Word.

Hawkmoon and TLW are two very different guns. TLW is mainly a short range weapon, as that is where it can get the most advantage out of its fire rate. Just get in people's faces and unload. Hawkmoon, on the other hand, is much better suited for picking people off at longer ranges. It's still decent at close range (if you can land the head shots), but it's fire rate is on the slow side. It's much better at mid-to-long range.
