College is hard, go here to take a break. Name your college, tell us your major(s), tell us your grades, complain about one of your professors. Tell us your college stories. Give advice on how to do college. Talk shit about other people's colleges.
I'll start: I go to IU, double major in sociology and political science, currently rocking a B average but it should go up a little after this semester. I hate my french professor, and most importantly, -blam!- Purdue.
Your turn.

1 ReplyWhen one is in college, would it be better to pass with an A or would passing with a B or C still get you the same degree? In other words, would a lower GPA affect getting into a job or would having the degree be the only thing that matters?

A&M, majoring as Petroleum Engineer... I'm in the honor society as well which requires me to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA. But juggling this BS and enjoying life don't mesh well. I have to skip hanging out with my friends to study to maintain grades and I feel like I'm missing out on the college experience. (The fun experience.)

I go to BPU, major in Banana Pants and clicking on silly threads

6 RepliesTop Tip #1: DO NOT GET IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH ONE OF YOUR PROFESSORS AND LOSE YOUR VIRGINITY TO HIM AND PROCEED TO STALK HIM FOR 3 YEARS AND TRY TO BREAK HIM UP WITH HIS WIFE AND TAKE HIS KIDS! A friend of a friend did that... she's a bit strange...

1 ReplyEdited by FatherlyNick: 3/3/2015 9:39:01 AMbed time now. remind me to come back here tomorrow. EDIT: I'm a CS major. I'm in my 4th (and last) year of the degree in Maynooth University. Don't have any real complaints, I just wish they didn't teach us useless shit like semantics in 4th year. This is the sort of crap that belongs in year two.

4 RepliesThat's crazy, I graduated from IUB last year. I also went to Purdue for a brief stint back in 09.

Edited by LightTehRing94: 3/2/2015 9:56:13 PMDude, I hate my stats teacher. She is a old foreign Indian chick and you know how those foreign professors tend to be. They can either be really awesome or really bad and she at the bad end of the spectrum. Her class is a joke, it literally is 2 hours of listening to her butcher the English language. You can barely comprehend what she saying and her teaching method isn't suited for teaching American kids. She'll be breezing through the powerpoint slides so it is fruitless to start taking notes. She lucky she teaching college or else she would of lost control of the class after the second week. It just because we're college students that we're actually respectful and don't criticize her to her face. I do feel sorry for her, but I mean I'm paying for this class and I'm at risk of failing because I literally can't comprehend the teacher.

7 RepliesI work at a University and just want to give you students some advice. Most of your problems are mainly just in your head. You may fail your test but life will go on. You may feel stressed, over worked, broke, brokeN, weak, but it all will pass and in 2 or 3 years you won't be able to remember what the big deal was. You may feel hopeless when in reality you are receiving a fine education, sleeping indoors, eating hot food, and working towards a goal. You may break up with your significant other or stop hanging out with certain friends, but others will come along in time. College is not the end of the world, it's the end of your adolescence and the precursor to the beginning of the real world.
Once you accept that life is hard, it's not that hard.
And for fuck's sake stop killing yourselves all the Goddamn time.

10 Replies4th year in college, working on a psych degree. Complaints.. well, I don't really like highly structured classes with professors that throw a fit when you arrive 2 minutes late, or that call me out for not bringing the book I read before class, to said class, so that she can quote one sentence and ask us our thoughts on it. Just say the damn quote -_-. My best classes, grade wise and in terms of content and what I've learned, have been those where we prepare for class with readings and then simply discuss for the majority of the class with the professor, as equals. Lecturing just doesn't do it for me. I had one class where the prof assigned us a project of keeping a journal to help us realize long and short term goals. Needless to say, I hated it. The class was nothing but busy work and a few credit hours, despite being a psychology course. I didn't even do the journal, but hey, I still passed the course. Thankfully I've had enough psych classes that I was able to breeze through it on prior knowledge. My college life consists of video games, playing music, and going to class. I've managed to get by with very little studying or prep work, but I'm trying to develop better study skills for later on. I've hardly ever had to study for anything, so it's kind of a hard habit to get into. I know it's a good skill and habit to make though.

5 RepliesI'm currently going to [REDACTED] University, majoring in physics with a minor in math. A's and B's so far this semester, but that is subject to change.

I'm dual enrolled so I think it's ok I post here. I hate my English professor! The most monotone voice in the world. Imagine the same low boring voice for about three and a half hours. Oh god it kills me a little every time I go in there.

4 RepliesI go to the University of Florida. It is hard as hell but I guess thats why its a top 10 public university. Original major was computer science but UF's computer science is almost 100% math based and I didn't like it. Economics major now. Also heavily considered Purdue for Aerospace back in the day. Great school Dutchy. Also good to see you on here Dutchy!

4 RepliesI'm at the University of South Alabama majoring in Computer Science, hoping to eventually have a career involving Artificial Intelligence. So far, I'm not doing so well. I can't keep up with four classes each semester, which is required to be eligible for financial aid. What I believe is going to happen is that I'll have to drop the financial aid, get a small job, and work at my own pace doing two classes per semester.

Edited by Killer4life7670: 3/2/2015 5:23:55 PMI'm In my first semester atm, and I think I'll probably fail out of calc 1. Sure, I'm lazy, but couple thst with an idiotic professor with a 1.8 on rate my professor and you get bad results. His lectures never relate to what we need to learn for the quizes/tests and are mostly incomprehensible. Also, my 1 credit catia class teacher was involved involved in a scandal last semester where he copied and sold notes/lectures from another professor from a different school to students for $10 each, which is obviously wrong and illegal. He got "reviewed" but nothing happened to him, and now his second semester is just as shifty of a class, but without the highly needed notes. This guy has a 1.6 on rate my professor and an average of an A, because he simply curves grades and nearly everyone passes without any input.

Bored as phuck of it, can't wait to get my degree so I can leave and go travelling. Meet people, go out, try new things, fall in love, get your heart broken, sleep around, learn to cook, stand on your own two feet, keep up with your studies, get blazed with your mates and play Xbox, learn to budget, go on holiday with Uni friends... make the most of your time there. I'm attending a Community College currently. I'm Eighteen. My GPA went to shit last year, mainly because I was apathetic and let a lot of personal issues effect my grades. I was stupid. This year things are different. I'm done letting my emotions get in the way. My work ethic is rusty, hell I've never fully committed myself to anything, but I'm learning the ropes. I'm unsure what my passion is. My plan is to get a 3.5 GPA and hope a University will accept me in a year or two. My Degree? I imagine going into Computer Programming. Whether that means I'll help work with internet security or AI development is unknown to me. I just know that will be my career, and it's something I won't hate myself doing for a job. I honestly feel like shit. I let an entire year slip from me, and I won't let that happen again. I just feel like that year of me slacking off impacted more than what I wanted to do. I know I'm young, but still.. the pressure and anxiety keep me up late at night.
