I noticed at some point Defenders were nerfed in that their ward of dawn became breakable by supers (a hard hit to a super that's a bit underwhelming in comparison albeit fun), which is understandable, ultimately trading a super for a super, but recently I've been finding that whenever I'm standing inside my bubble and a warlock most definitely outside of it used nova bomb, 4/5 times it would end up outright killing me and everyone inside of it instead of just breaking the bubble. I would assume this is a glitch since it makes no sense to me why one class should just be able to completely ignore another's super, as well as the few instances where it seemed to work as intended. Can I get any insight on this?
Edit: I have to include these in the topic post because for some reason they are getting continuously brought up.
Q: Maybe it's the vortex afterwards that killed you?
-No, it's not. I'm getting killed in a single burst of damage. The vortex would never kill someone in a single tick.
Q: Maybe it's the shatter upgrade? The first bomb breaks the bubble and the other two kill you!
-This might happen sometimes, but it isn't happening in my case. I don't see shatter that often, and it's very easy to hear the difference between the two. What I am being killed by is the single hitting Nova Bomb.
Q: Ward of Dawn needs a counter, Nova Bomb should go through it!
-Ward of Dawn already has its suite of weaknesses and counters. It is far too easy for blade dancers and strikers to ruin a defender's day by simply supering inside the bubble while having their own loadout of buffs to make it even easier for them, but this makes more sense because they use the mechanics of ward of dawn to their advantage. In this case, Nova Bomb is going straight through the bubble with no explanation, and that is by no means just a simple counter. Not to mention that defenders are almost equally debilitated by not being able to fire outside, but that is to be expected.
Q: Isn't it just like a void shield that an enemy would have in PvE? Damage would carry through because the bubble is weak to void.
A shield is applied directly to the owner. The bubble is not tied to the defender, it is it's own entity. Consider two dregs standing next to each other. If you overkill one, it wouldn't pass that extra damage to the next one because they are their own unique entities. It is the same with if you were to overkill the bubble.

The entire purpose of a defender's super is to block attacks. Take that away and what are they left with? I am not making an attack at void walkers, simply pointing out a glitch. If you want to talk about void walker balance, this is not the subject for it.
A lot of you seem eager to justify this as intentional and spin this about balance, but before you do, think about if that would be balanced. If you do believe you have a reason for why it would, please tell me because I would be genuinely interested in it, yet haven't seen a good one yet.

I wish I would have read this sooner!!! I just assumed my NB would not work and never bothered to even try. Now I know ;) But I do agree with you post. It shouldn't work. It should at most, destroy the ward.
-
No nova bomb will kill you and everything inside your bubble, as will fist of havoc it's quite annoying
-
Not a big deal to me, strikers smash right through it and kill everyone too.
-
1 ReplyDo you people saying it should do that even read what you're typing? It makes as much sense as me saying "Golden Gun should do 5 damage. That's just how it is, sorry mate." Like the ENTIRE POINT of the super is to keep you alive. How do you not understand that?
-
Pretty sure you people aren't even reading the OP at this point

1 ReplyIf you know someone's gonna super you in the bubble just throw a suppression grenade at them.
-
4 RepliesI don't care aboit anything other than correcting the incorrect idea that a bladedancer can win a 1v1. If the Titan is running his bubble with armor like he should be he will win the trade with minimal effort. Golden gun on the other hand is very dangerous as you can break the bubble and an exploding piercing shot can kill a whole team with the last remaining shot.

I dont know why splash damage keeps coming up. I've heard Atheon referenced a dozen times already and that's because the relic shield, from what we can tell, is coded differently because the user can move. If the user moves at all or is nudged by an ally, it registers the bubble as being dropped and raises it again as fast as the game can manage. Most of the time it works, but sometimes hits get through. Ward of Dawn is not like the relic shield because it is immobile. I have never once been hit by splash damage from other sources such as grenades, rockets, and hell, even FoH that land just outside the bubble. The most logical suggested reason is that It is a special case with Nova Bomb because of how the explosion works. Most AoEs (See: FoH, rockets, etc) deal damage in an instant. Nova Bomb seems to radiate outwards, albeit very quickly. Because of this, there's nothing to stop it from continuing to radiate once its first intersection with the bubble drops it. At the end of the day though it boils down to: "Should it happen?" and unless you firmly believe Ward of Dawn should be nothing more than a pretty decoration (in which case dont even bother commenting), then the answer better be No.

I just hate that the game itself and the grimoire lie about ward of dawn, stating that the defender creates an indestructible barrier of light. Meaning that it cannot be destroyed, yet NovaBomb, and GoldenGun can outright destroy it. (Bladedancer and Striker easy kills the defender which also drops the shield)

splash dmg boii. learned it from the man atheon himself. No Bubble of any bubble can save u akakaka

Edited by Erijian: 2/13/2015 11:09:17 PMThe Splash Damage kills you. Nova Bomb has two instances of damage, one is the initial impact of the Super, and the other is the Splash Damage caused by the Super similar to how Praetorian/Minotaur and Knight Boomer shots work. If the Nova Bomb lands close to the floor, or next to an object (Per say a wall or pillar) the Splash damage will kill you due to the weird physics of Splash damage in this game. (Like Atheon being able to 'hit' you through the Relic's Shield since the Splash damage bugs out on the pillar next to where you stand for the Middle strategy)

I saw a Warlock run towards the bubble over a zone today in control, me and 2 other guys and im like oh shit what's he gonna do, he ran inside and fired a rocket and killed all 4 of us lol best suicide i ever saw.

2 RepliesHave you Ever put your ward in front of servitor prime? He'll use his sucking ability to suck it up using his void light. IMO void light can destroy other void light. My theory is that nova bomb kills you and destroys your ward because nova is a void damage attack. Does it make sense? Not really but it's possible.
-
Splash damage from the floor?
-
1 ReplyAny time I see a Titan running at me that looks a little too cocky, I backpedal then when he's about 5 feet away I jump backwards and 99% of the time his FoH doesn't even touch me. Same goes for voidwalker but you have to be listening for it more so than watching. Bladedancer? If I don't have a shotgun I just sit down and wait for it. GG, if I have a corner I can get around, I'll ditch the bubble and run.
-
1 ReplyIt was never nerfed. It's always been like that.
-
If the Warlock has the first Nova bomb equipped then the DOT if you get stuck inside will kill you.
-
I go in it and plot the novo bomb inside of it
-
Been playing since launch, and a nova bomb, or FOH has always busted the bubble and killed me.
-
3 RepliesNova Bomb with Vortex and Vortex mastery will destroy a bubble in an instant and turn everyone in dust. Quit whining.
-
Nova bomb is meant to kill the bubble and people inside haha sorry mate
-
Lol warlocks with sunsinger and that extra health perk can take a rocket but a titan thats stuck in his bubble with armor of light can be taken down by a 2 shotgun shells. Thats shit he needs a huge buff.
-
Oh my god why is this coming back. The responses only got worse and worst but I didn't think they could get this bad. None of you are helping even slightly.
-
I kill Titans in their bubble all the time with nova bomb with vortex and vortex mastery and annihilation. Bigger explosion and longer lastly and bigger vortex. Not that hard
-
It's probably because of the blast radius of the nova bomb kills you.
-
14 RepliesAlways been that way, deal with it. Stop hiding in bubbles and fight.
