In Halo lore, the Spartan IIs had a secret code they would use that would immediately identify them to each other. This code was "Oly Oly Oxen Free", and it involved the actual words, and a six-note tune known only to the Spartan IIs and a select few outsiders.
So ... what exactly are the six notes? I've always imagined that are somehow tied to the Halo main theme, but I have absolutely no evidence to support it. Any guesses?

As I understood it, the tune was them actually whistling the phrase. Followed by the counter-response of another Spartan saying, "Oly Oly Oxen Free, All out in the free, We're all free." This is kind of similar to the Spartan "Smile" I think.

Edited by RAP1: 6/29/2014 8:10:15 PMWell thats actually a very good Question :D But i think you never get an answer except you ask Eric Nylund for his imagination while writing the Book. Even if Nylund would give you that information it would be just "his version" everyone who red the Books will have his own imagination of the Notes. Sincerly RAP1
