Can someone explain what an "Honor Killing" is.

I read this and I feel sick. Its sadly all to common for that region of the world. A family feels shame for some minor thing their daughter does, or worse, feel shame that they couldn't protect her from a sexual assault, and then they brutally kill her to preserve their honor. What sort of honor is it that they feel has been tarnished? Where is the honor in tying your daughter to the ground and beating her to death with large stones? Its a sickening and barbaric process. Anyone who thinks it is OK is a barbarian. I wish the US State Department would consider things like this when looking at who is and isn't an ally. Yes, Pakistan is anti-Taliban, but they allow their citizens to act like animals.

  • It has nothing to do with Islam. Pakistan and India are both known for their "honour killings". The parents believe it's okay to kill their daughter if they bring "shame" to their family, like if a girl refuses an arranged marriage or even "likes" another guy. It's seriously f*cked up. Womens rights in India/Pakistan is among the worst in the world. America is a hypocrite when it comes to "human rights", they complain about Russia being "authoritarian" but completely ignore the human rights violations in certain African countries, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and India, all because "they're allies".

    • Honour killings are neither Honourable or killings, it's just plain murder. This is not just something radical Muslims believe in before I get condemned by Mr Psychologist and his army of anti-truth trolls. If Muslims of two different sects e.g. Sunnis or Shias for example( bit like Christians & Catholics, believe variations of the same religion) get married and their family's disagree the woman could be killed. It can even be two Sunnis from different sects. Islam= peace?

      • It's disgusting and it has no room in Islam or anywhere for that matter. It's a crime, and whoever does it should be executed.

Honestly, this was more about blackmail than about the family's honor. She had married someone other than who her family had arranged her marriage to, and the family was demanding that her husband "pay up or else". Similarly, the arranged marriage (of which the woman did not agree to or want any part of) involved the potential husband paying for the "privilege of marrying our daughter". In essence, it is a devaluation of women and the treatment of them as a commodity, as property that can be bought and sold for an agreed on price. That is slavery, of your own female children. Calling it "honor" is a smokescreen. If the family were honorable, then it would have been about their "pride" and not money and their "loss of property and its potential cash value". Utterly despicable and sadly, all to common throughout various parts of our world.
