In the light of the new gameplay, we've essentially learned nothing about Destiny. We were shown an extremely by-the-books 'Hold This Position' scenario and some gunplay.
The game looks boring. Where's the huge open worlds with mysteries begging to be explored? What's with the generic musical score that feels completely out of place? The completely monotone and cheesy voice-acting? Where's the variation?
We're told to be excited, but what for? I feel I haven't seen anything to be excited about. The lead-up to this game's release feels completely underwhelming compared to the lead-up to any of Bungie's Halo games.
I feel like Bungie has essentially gone from a great family food restaurant to a fast food chain. Destiny seems like a game made by committee rather than a handful of ambitious people.
I suppose this shouldn't be a surprise, considering how Destiny has half a thousand people at Bungie alone working on it.

7 RepliesEdited by Bolvak: 4/29/2014 12:23:08 AMNot to be rude, but actually I think, and that's completely my personal opinion, that what is generic is your post. You don't seem to have any solid arguement to valid your point, you've just seen two 7 minutes videos and you're basing all your assumptions on a game you've not even played, and that still is on a Pre-Alpha build. Not to mention all your points have been repeated all day long on this forum. Sorry, but I can't take this seriously.

This is just Strike mode my friend. Strike is designed to be a short, sweet, and to the point linear mission that only takes a small amount of time out of your day. You are right, we haven't learned much about Destiny yet, but I hope that means that the E3 panel will be that much more impressive.
-
This is a DEMO, they showed you what they wanted you to see, and not to mention that it is the pre-alpha and anything, let me delineate that again, The PRE-ALPHA is just a preview or a small percentage (very small) of what is to come! For loyal fans and followers of destiny, we really do accuse and attack bungie for the good things they try and do for us... its not like they are beguiling us or ruse us to buy a game that well will not like, this is what they WANT to offer us right now, and our job is to help them by CONSTRUCTIVELY critisize them so that they can build on the game to make it the game that we Desire! They are here for us, We da people!
-
It seems very average. Will it be fun? Probably, but I haven't seen anything that makes it worth playing more than the games in my current rotation.
-
I figure, something like Skyrim, that there are more open world parts, and more funneled parts. Strikes = Co-op dungeons? Seems like a good sandbox/theme park combo to me. Open is nice for immersion and eye candy while funneled can be better for more fun, controlled gameplay and story elements. Doesn't have to be just one or another.

Then don't play it. Cya.

1 ReplyOnly complaint I can think of from the footage shown is that the UI seems a bit boring. Wish they'd shown us something truly new instead of something similar to the previous gameplay video, but I see no reason to complain. They've got to save something for E3, after all.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/134071-Destiny-Reveals-GameStop-Preorder-Bonus-and-New-Gameplay-Trailer Oh god that video looks boring. It's just as linear as Halo and limiting and the gameplay looks boring as hell. The combat to me was really slow paced and it looks like nothing I haven't played before.
-
I think it looks like cod gameplay wise.

It's not the video that has all the information. We've learned quite a bit of new information and it's spread all over the gaming sphere. You'll be able to transfer your character between the prior console and it's next gen counterpart. There's a vault that you can store items that can be transferred between your characters. So if you play as your Titan and you find gear specific for the Warlock class you can store it for later use, then your Warlock character can swing by and pick it up. Patrol is a free roam experience Strike is an objective based Campaign/Firefight run. The E3 will feature the PVP and then it's off to the Beta. There's more information in the articles and commentary follow ups than just the Devil's lair. Heck there's another short video of them just trying to stop a mining probe from harvesting glimmer. But whatever, I could list the second coming but you'd just bah humbug it.

2 RepliesIt's the most generic game I've ever seen. I've seen more variety in a Burger King toilet

1 ReplySo, if you see a race in GTA 5, do you assume all you can do in the game is race, and all that there is to the world is confined to the course shown in that single race?
-
4 RepliesUnlike your mom.
-
1 ReplyI'll let you know when I play it.

4 RepliesWrong. This demo looked like other games we have seen, not boring! Also, I don't believe for half a second that this demo is an indication of what the game will actually play like. If all of destiny was going to be this linear then Bungie would have straight out lied to us the literally dozens of times they have explained how big this world is and how much they are encouraging players to explore it in their own way and in their own time. I just don't believe that this is the case.

People need to understand that there is nothing wrong with not liking a game that you've already saw gameplay for. It's an opinion. What this guy saying is not any worse than people who say "omg this game is amazing!". Anyway what you saw is a pathway to the base of the house of devils. It's like a dungeon, and dungeons are linear.
-
5 RepliesYou've seen one strike of one area of one planet in the solar system. Be patient.

In 7 minutes you know that the game is boring and not for you, great! Please cancel that pre-order, because I don't want to play with people that are "flavor of the month" gamers. -cheers

Well at least you aren't a casual.. I saw the gameplay preview from IGN recently, and nothing but casuals in the comment section.. I respect your opinion based on the fact you have known about this game for more than 1 day. Personally, I don't feel it is generic.. the story alone is compelling to me, and a rare thing for me to be EXCITED about the story portion of a video game, when I mostly enjoy multiplayer. All it really takes for someone to know the feel of this game is to watch the E3 gameplay.. I was hooked from that moment. I haven't played too many FPS's where my friend could pop in and help me take down a "boss" how many FPS's have bosses? The competitve multiplayer may seem generic, but how many different ways can you make multiplayer fresh? It does seem like it has some interesting modes that we haven't fathom before.. other than that, everything else is unique.
-
Lol that was a strike.. not the open world ... im sure the voice acting was just rushed to get the vid out, and generic is the opposite of what it is. Look closer. Uniwue abilities, like that of an mmo, and tge shooter mechamics of a... well... shooter! They really are being unique by blending the two, because its never been done before. So maybe if people dont overhype so much theyll notice it.
-
This thread feels generic. Shut up and quit your whining.
-
No...everything shown was a small section of a Strike..., that's like showing of a 7min demo of Firefight or Horde Mode, it's meant to be a more linear accessible quick arcade mode. And for what was shown it looked quite fun and polished to me.
-
I always thought it looked boring.

Halo with space magic!

1 Reply7 minutes of gameplay suddenly makes you an expert on the entire game? Okay, you're right!
