Looks like I have a date to the prom

Yup, and it's with the gal I like to, although we're going "strictly as friends." Her words not mine, but I never thought of it as a "date night" anyways. So how many of you fine folks have somebody to go to prom with?
"strictly as friends"
I hate to say it, and I know it probably took guts to ask her in the first place, but you need to disinvite. She's gonna make your night miserable. She will abandon you immediately to go talk to her friends and/or dudes she likes, and it will embarrass you. I've seen it happen. More than once. Hell, even if that doesn't happen to you, your own words that it's "not a date night" and you're just going as friends is going to friendzone you immediately and you'll never have a shot at this girl. This kind of thing is a recurring theme in the movies for a reason. Generations of scriptwriters (amongst other people) have been burned in this way. Don't be the one. If you still need a date, ask a cute freshman or sophomore who will appreciate it and looks up to you. Oh, and just FYI, I speak from experience. In my senior year, I asked a hot, popular cheerleader who I had a crush on if she wanted to go with me. She said yes, but a couple of weeks before prom she called me up and said we were just going as friends and she needed to go home by 10. I disinvited her immediately and asked a cute sophomore instead. We had the time of our lives, and I found out that the girl I had originally asked magically ended up at a party that night with some of HER friends that started around 10:00. And finally, if you don't believe me or don't want to go back on this girl, at least hedge your bets and make sure you've got some plans with your other more reliable friends to hang out with just in case.

      • Prom is coming up for most of you young-uns. So I figured I'd share my story. It all started when he I saw him dating the woman I loved. Well, that isn't true. It all started when I fell in love with the woman I loved. Sophomore year, high school. I was an awkward person, I had learning disorders, or so I was told. I was the "weirdo" "freak" "retard". Everybody would always pick on me. Well, you get the idea. School was hell for me. I had no friends because nobody wanted to be associated with me and everybody loved to hate me. Even the teachers hated me. I didn't do anything to offend anybody unless you count merely existing as being offensive. So, you get the idea, I was a total reject. I developed a crush on Sandy Mathers, a beautiful redhead with bright green eyes, angel's skin, and long silky hair. Her body was just the right shape and she had a great personality. I tried to flirt with her, but my attempts were awkward and unbecoming.I loved her. Every time I saw her I felt alive and dead inside. Conflicting emotions tore through me. I wished she would notice me not for the freak everybody thinks I am, but for who I am. Skip to senior year, prom night was coming up. I still had a crush on Sandy, so I asked her out by giving her favorite flowers and a ring that I bought for her. But she rejected me and instead, she chose Chad Worthington, a football jockey who would always pick on me. He made my life a living hell. He would always take my backpack away from me and rip up my essays which I worked hard to complete. Then everybody would laugh. He would give me swirlies in the bathroom, leaving me humiliated. He shat in my locker, pissed in my bookbag, spat in my face, all sorts of nasty stuff. The teachers knew about this but they did nothing to stop him in fact, they laughed. Sometimes I even got in trouble for "provoking him". Yet, despite how despicable he is Sandy chose him. The world was unfair, I was furious and I felt betrayed by fate. Why did she choose such a disgusting human being? Prom night came, and I had nobody. I looked with envy and tears in my eyes as Chad danced with her, my love. He saw me crying and came over and said "Awww what's the matter baby? Retard doesn't have a date?" Then he got up in my face and pushed me. They say some people have a moments in their lives where they feel like they awaken. That they discover some hidden potential that they knew they never had. I had one such awakening at that very moment. As soon as Chad pushed me, I snapped. I grabbed his head, and before he could do anything, I leaned in, crunched my mouth down on his nose and bit it off. I was awarded with a spray of blood and a girlish scream issuing from Chad. The next moment, he was on the ground kicking his legs and holding his nose, blood gushing through his fingers. Sandy looked at me standing with a mouth covered in blood and she screamed. I spat out Brad's nose and it flew through the air and landed in between a girl's breasts. She looked down and she also screamed. It all happened so quickly. Chad was still on the ground squealing, bleeding everywhere. Nearby dancers who didn't notice him or his screaming (due to the loud music) slipped in the puddle of his blood and fell down. Some of them hit their noses on the dance floor and broke them. In a turn of bad luck, more blood squirted out into the dance floor, causing even more people to slip and break their noses, which in turn, caused even more blood and more broken noses. It was like a ripple-effect of pure chaos. I looked on with horror and satisfaction. All of these people, they all rejected me. All of them. They deserved what they got. But not Sandy, she was always nice to me. she never made fun of me, she did not deserve this. I saw her on the floor crying. I went to help her up, but she freaked out, flailing her arms everywhere. She tried to run away from me, but it was too crowded and slippery on the dance floor, so she ran across the stage where the band was performing. I tried to chase after her, wanting to apologize. But I accidentally bumped into the guitarist who in turn accidentally fell on Sandy, making her trip on one of the cords and dive head first into the amplifier. Sparks flew, I heard a blood curdling scream and her body convulsed. NExt moment, her hair catches on fire. So she gets up and starts rolling around. Then she rolled right off the stage and landed on another girl, whose dress promptly caught on fire. So now there were people on the dance floor with broken noses and now a fire was starting to spread. Everybody tried to run for the door, but most of them kept slipping on the blood. It was utter chaos, delightful chaos. At this point, I no longer cared about Sandy. She chose chad. I found this to be a lot more satisfying. So I watched as they burned, screaming bloody murder. But all of a sudden, the sprinklers turned on. The fire withered and started to die out. So it seemed that some people would survive. "Dammit" I thought. "why won't they just die?" Just then, the water touched the broken and still sparking amplifier. Electricity surged through the water and electrocuted everybody to death. The sweet smell of human flesh filled the air. I decided it was time for me to leave, so I walked out the door, got into my car and I left.

2006. Went with a girl I worked with. She was a cheerleader; I was a band nerd. We had a good time. Our group had a hummer limo. She was a couple inches taller than me in heels (we were the same height, otherwise). I really only went because it was the "thing to do," though. I recently went to a formal-ish event at a bar/club/place that was endearingly referred to as a "prom." That night was much better.
jetfalcon thread was better
• My Junior year prom sucked tremendously, ended up hanging out with a girl I was long-time friends with who was helping to run it more than my actual date by the end of the night. Skipped Senior Year, I'd do the same if I were you if it doesn't go well, if this is your Junior year, at my school we could only go to it ourselves if we were Juniors or Seniors, but Freshmen and Sophomores could go if taken by an upperclassmen.

Well I hope you have fun, I didn't go to mine and despite the 'you'll regret it' barrage that I got from people. I haven't regretted it at all. Or given it much thought really.
