  • I believe those in the lower ranks in the military should be tax exempted.

  • Hell no they shouldn't be tax-exempt. First of all, their taxes get recycled back into their paychecks, so if they did not pay taxes, that money going into their paychecks would have to come from somewhere else, meaning less money for other things. Also, I just got out of the military, and people in the military make a shitton of money, they do not need anymore, trust me. The military is a damn daycare center, they literally pay for everything and then you get thousands of dollars a month on top of that. I was making $2000 a month after taxes and only spent $250 a month on bills. The only reason some people in the military are broke is because they are complete idiots who rack up a ton of debt or marry a whorish wife/husband who divorces them and steals their money.

    • No. The military already pays taxes and that shouldn't change (there is no sales tax on base but that's about it).

    • They tax our pay a lot. They take state taxes out of a soldiers pay from whatever state their from. Some states take more than others, they take out food costs for army dining facilities, they take out their own taxes on top of state. All in all. I was making 2800 a month, but after taxes I ended up with 1800 a month, and now that im medically retired, I recieve 900 a month since I am u nable to work, but I only see 784 of that 900 after they take taxes out of my pay thats required for me to even hope to survive since I cant work.

Everyone should be. You shouldn't be paid for being in the military, though.

              • Can't see why. They work for the government. I work for the government. I pay taxes. They should to.

              • Yes. They're paid with tax money anyways. Taxing government employees is the equivilant of giving someone $100, then taking $25 back.

                • Lowered taxes. Because then people will just join and slack off.

I'll say I can see the irony in paying taxes on income that came from tax dollars... It's essentially a chunk of money that will never be spent. It gets given to you in a paycheck, only to have you give it back in taxes, only to have it given back to you in the form of a paycheck next year... It's kind of pointless. I'd be fine with military personnel not paying taxes, as long as every other government employee also did not pay taxes. Only on the income from the government... Any other income would of course be taxed.

                  • No. Though in essence it does just seem to be a way to redistribute departmental budgets internally

                  • No they need to be taxed too. Does it seem redundant? Yes, but just because they made the choice to do lots of exercise and then kill or be killed for a shit cause doesn't make them exempt from paying into taxes like the rest of us. They don't have sales tax on post as I recall and that's fine. They should take that tax money and put into better treatment for them after they come home.

                    • Well, they get paid with tax money anyway, so not like it would make much of a difference.

                    • Only after a certain amount of years of service. I don't want any greedy bastards getting a quick ride in the military in order to be tax exempt.

                      • you mean while they're on duty? i would say yes, since it doesn't make a lot of sense to give them taxpayer money just to tax it from them

                      • Maybe they should get lower and lower tax rates the longer they've been in service. Debilitating injuries would exempt them from all taxes.

                      • You know what I like? when an issue like this brings people closer together. I mean, I've seen people who have obviously opposite political views both answer yes to this question. Same thing for no. See, not everything has to be a politically charged, polarizing situation. :D

                      • Taxing anyone who works for the government just seems weird to me. What's the point, exactly, in the government paying someone, then taking back a cut later? Why not just take the cut from the beginning and leave out the hassle? Or maybe I'm just missing something.
