What do you think of requiring an ID to vote?

I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • I don't see there being anything wrong with it, but I don't see the point in spending money to make it happen either. Voter fraud is actually very rare. There have been some very limited instances of "dead voter schemes" but they are invariably caught, and the ballots tossed out. What is FAAAAR more common are voter intimidation schemes that try to deny voters their rights. Examples include the inner city precincts in several Ohio cities being sent 1/2 the number of needed voting machines, causing incredible delays. Robo-call campaigns telling people that their precinct votes on Wednesday, not Tuesday. Finally, but not limited to, trying to deny that a voter is registered for a particular precinct. (this is my worry with voter ID's, it gives another spot to add a runaround) Illegals do not vote. They are terrified that the polls are a INS trap. Likewise, people don't really vote twice. Its too hard to. So, why add to a bill we can already barely afford to pay for, for something that will give barely any return, and could (face it, WILL) be misused by either side to turn away legitimate voters? Its a bad idea.

  • Doesn't pretty much everyone already have an ID?

  • As long as every citizen can get an ID (this means for free), then it's fine. Any other circumstance and it's a no-go. anyway, >not having mandatory voting

  • The idea isn't terrible, but it unfairly discriminates against the poor and elderly. So, no. Doesn't work.

  • I don't see what the big deal is. You need an ID to do pretty much anything else in this country. You need an ID to buy a firearm You need an ID to buy booze You need an ID to buy cigarettes Hell, you even need an ID to buy M rated video games in some states. But yet it's bad to ask people to prove who they are when they go to vote? That makes no sense.

With the concept? No problem. But the way some states go about it make it harder for certain groups to vote. I believe in Texas you can use a concealed-carry permit to vote with, but not a state university ID. Maybe I'm seeing things, but it seems odd that ID used by folks to carry guns, of whom tend to be conservative and Republican, are fine but student IDs, who tend to be more liberal and Democratic, are not. Some states are even pushing for harder voter registration.

      • Sure, but don't make it purposefully difficult for the poor like many states are trying to do. And make an election week, not an election day. A single day for something this important is stupid.

        • I already do, it makes sense. But of course the Left thinks requiring proof it's you that's voting is ludicrous. How come they don't bitch and moan about heavy restrictions on one right, but when it's one they care about, they're all up in arms? I need an ID to get a gun, how dare they put restrictions on my RIGHTS!

          • It's a good idea. Why wouldn't you? It you're the voting age you should have some form of ID. Be it student, work, lisence, etc.

          • I'm fine with it. But that's all, an ID to vote. No other pointless additions that many states, like North Carolina, are tackling on.

          • I need one to do basically anything else involving the government, so why not make me show it to vote?
