In every halo game I have ever played (unless it was campaign) I never had to really worry about ammo. Now (though it could change at any time) we are going to have to actually seek out ammo, even for our normal primary. Which in the last handful of bungie games you didn't have to go far to find any.
And even after that fact unlike reach where in ffa (free for all) where the person with the sniper, shotgun or sword usually won in this everyone can have a sniper...or a shotgun. Not sure how they are going to stop everyone from just hiding around corners with shotguns but that's what this thread is for.
What do you think will be good and bad about the new way they are handling the multiplayer.

Edited by FairlySplendid: 9/25/2013 5:54:29 PMAs others have said, the biggest benefit of this ammo system is it forces people to be conscious of their ammo use, forces people to move around the map, and keeps heavy weapons in check. Especially if the keep the reload-first, then fire mechanic. The smarter, most successful players will know when to save ammo, went to blow thru it, and when the risk outweighs the reward.

2 RepliesBeing from a Sony background, I've never played Halo, But just about all the online multiplayer PVP games I have played you have had to pay attention to your ammo and where you could find ammo dumps for reload. I think this is a good thing and will keep many of the unskilled "just spray nonstop" players in check.

I think the idea they're going for is that you only start out with ammo for your primary, while special and heavy ammo is scattered around the map. That way, if people are hiding around corners with shotguns, it's your fault for letting them get the ammo for them. The way I see it, this will be exactly like Halo, except instead of finding a weapon that you don't want to use but that can change the course of the match, you'll find ammo for a gun you know and love, which can do some serious damage to the enemy. It's like ordinance drops in Halo 4, only not based on how many kills you have, but rather on map control.

3 RepliesEdited by external: 9/25/2013 11:45:46 AMExcept for the fact you carry your power weapon of choice onto the battlefield, the fact that you have to collect ammo for it, that you're able to tell which weapon people are wielding by listening or seeing their silhouette (before seeing them shoot them at you or your team) makes Destiny's PvP similar to how things worked for PvP in Halo titles if you think about it. It will only actually change gameplay in the sense that players now have personal control over what weapons we have access to on any given PvP map; no more and no less than the three weapons from their personal inventory that they bring to the table. This is not unlike other shooters that use a strictly loadout-based system of course, but with ammo drops Bungie can make the gameplay still resemble the Halo rush cycles for mid-tier and upper-tier power weapons, rather than respawning players with ammo in all their weapons like in other loadout-based shooters. Lastly, you'll likely respawn with ammo for your primary, just like with starting weapons in Halo, and if you run out between respawns you'll have to find more from killing enemies or ammo placed on the map, much like in Halo. tl;dr: it actually doesn't change gameplay all that much, it actually makes it resemble halo gameplay more than it would have otherwise (if it were a loadout system where you spawned with power weapons and respawned with ammo for them)

Edited by purplencute: 9/25/2013 1:06:50 PMwow, people actually replied. I think you guys are right. And I never said the gameplay was going to be ruined but it will feel different in a good way. I realise what you guys is saying is true but I keep on thinking about what they said in that podcast about being able to know what kind if weapon the have in there hands without actually seeing it. I think what they are doing with the idea that you shouldn't have to get spawned killed just because you didn't get to one of the two snipers first and that everyone can use what guns they are actually good at rather than hoping to find them. 'oh nooooo. my ammmmooooo' rofl

3 RepliesWell we really don't know too much about the multiplayer just yet. I'm hoping Bungie will balance the game nicely like they have in previous games. CoD is the most unbalanced game I have ever -blam!-ing seen...so if its anything like that I will be a sad little wolf :(...but I have faith in the almighty Bungie.
