The song in the video above is a remake "Take on me". Here is the original.
The same thing happened to American Pie by Don McLean. Madonna had to screw it up: link.

2 RepliesThey're not "ruining" it. Most artists are just putting they're spin on a musical number to express themselves in a creative way. It's simply a matter of whether you like their vision or not.
-
2 RepliesFun fact: You can choose to listen to the original and not the cover. When you look at it realistically, a fairly large portion of pop musicians don't write their own music in the first place. They have lyricists and producers doing that for them. They're just vocal talent (a word used loosely in some cases). So really, what's the difference between them paying a producer to make them music and them paying the owner of the song to take their music? The results are the same: Some people like it and some people hate it. So why does it matter who made the music if the 'artists' aren't making it themselves?

2 RepliesCovers are meant to use the original artist's lyrics while playing the song in the style of the band covering it. That said, I think the Flobots did a pretty good cover of Happy Together by The Turtles.
-
People have been making poor covers and badly using samples for ages. This is nothing new. It's just crap that happens to be made by a famous person.
-
The Punk goes Classic Rock songs aren't bad...
-
That's not a cover. Here's a good cover of Take On Me
-
The original wasn't good in the first place anyway, so...

Edited by Comet: 4/13/2013 11:20:29 PMPitBull ruins everything. poor Lionel Richie.

I cried
-
How is it ruining the original?
-
8 RepliesI'd say the best example of this is Katy Perrys cover of "Don't stop me now" It's truly abysmal
-
Because it's a much easier way to make money. Movies are doing the same, and so are games.

Edited by Alex031097: 4/13/2013 1:24:40 PMJoey Ramone's version of "What a wonderful world" By Louis Armstrong was superior... but the Ramones aren't exactly modern...

some covers don't deserve to even have been a fangirl's dream, like the One direction cover of Blondie's One Way or Another. -blam!- me you should NOT be allowed to ruin a song like that. some covers are good though and are occasionally better than the original (see video).
-
That's a sample, not a cover (remake).
-
6 RepliesCovers have been happening since music has been music. Country is the worst offender of this particular offense though. They've been covering classic rock songs for long time and adding their twang and dead cat guitar noise to the once good music. Five Finger Death Punch redid Bad Company by Bad Company. Death Punch sound Is our claim to fame *cringe* *shudders* There are very few bands that could ever pull off a cover, and make it as good if not better as the original. I can only think of 1 band that did some covers and actually made them spectacular.
-
I dislike many cover songs. Some covers are good, like Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower or Deep Purple's cover of Hush, but some are just flat out awful. I heard this acoustic cover of Comfortably Numb and it was just bad.
-
1 ReplyIt's not a remake. It's sampling it. Two different things.
-
Well, the original song still exists. And, who knows, maybe someone will think the sample is catchy and go looking for the source. I knew about Take On Me thanks to... Family Guy, actually... but I've discovered some random songs this way.
-
2 RepliesA-ha is classic? anyways didn't even know it was a remake
-
not THAT bad.... no wait it is
-
Because they can't do better.
-
BEEN SEARCHING FOR THAT SONG SINCE I HEARD IT ON SR2 THANK YOU
-
Edited by VerticalGradient: 4/12/2013 2:44:22 AMLuckily that sounds nothing like Take On Me, so I suppose I'm okay with never listening to that again and enjoy A-Ha.
-
1 ReplyBecause you care. They love to annoy you.

This isn't bad...
