Skyrim Patch 1.2 is broken - Makes the game unplayable.

Some people have been experiencing problems on the XBox and PS3, I'd like to add PC to that list. The latest patch has made the game completely unplayable. The game will run for under 10 minutes, getting progressively slower as it runs (tends to suggest a memory leak). It won't load misc textures properly, my dragons are flying backwards and away from me, and I've yet to test it, but from the above linked post I assume my resistances aren't working either... Skyrim players everywhere will now have to wait for another patch to even play the game. I can say I'll be reverting back to the first patch on a different copy I have. Bethesda really dropped the ball on this one.

 • The only problems I've ever had is the occasional crash; this is with every Bethesda game though.

 • There's a glitch in one of the ACS modules. That's what caused this mess. Once Bethesda fixes that, the patch will most likely work.

 •
Posted by: WyIdfyre
Posted by: xEpicurus
Posted by: WyIdfyre GOTY/best game ever right here. /sarcasm
It is... a patch doesn't make a game bad, it was a bad patch, but it doesn't render the game worse, I bet Bethesda is currently working their asses of to fix this, and going to release a fix within a few days
Point is, it should be fixed before shipment. When was the last time a game needed so much work for a game breaking bug, let alone several? Sure CoD had plenty that needed ironing out, but they were fixed within a couple of days and on the first tries.
You're -blam!- retarded.

 • Looks like Bethesda spent as much time on the patch as they did with the civil war quest line. [Edited on 11.30.2011 2:53 PM PST]

 • What the hell is the point of having such a long ass cert process if stuff like this still happens?

 • This is like the twentieth time Bethesda has problems with glitches or bugs in their games. I guess they don't know what playtesting is. [Edited on 11.30.2011 12:21 PM PST]

 • The issue with dev playtesting is that the added complexity of a title creates situations where you literally need hundreds of thousands of unique playthroughs to identify every possible scenario. Comparing what is happening with Skyrim to titles like COD, displays a lack of understanding of the situation. Games with set parameters and limited amounts of trigger scenarios are far easier to fix should something go wrong. A game like COD, which features a campaign full of scripted moments that rely on a VERY small set of unique actions, is exceedingly simple (in the grand scheme) to fix pre-release, or patch post-release. A game like Skyrim, which features near limitless sets of parameters due to the level of offered customization, misc/radiant quest systems, and NPC AI that doesn't rely solely on scripting, is a whole other ball game. Now with all that being said, Bethesda needs to be working their asses off to rectify the (big) situations that the game is facing. Game/quest breaking bugs, crashes, and character AI glitches have to be addressed, and addressed properly. Pushing out a half-assed patch to quite ignorant people will only create greater issues (viola, we have 1.2!). But people need to understand that a zero bug release for a game this large is next to impossible, and that the inconsistent nature of many of these glitches mean that a patch for them is not an easy process. •
Posted by: Wizzy Piggy No other "big" developer is this consistently shoddy...
No other "big" developer makes games anywhere close to the size or openness of Skyrim. There are 2 things that will lead to more bugs: -a large game -an open game The Elder Scrolls series is the king of both of those, if nothing else.

 • This is why I'm not patching. I can live with the glitches the shipped version has because it's either trivial or hilarious.

 •
Posted by: A Major Warrior
Posted by: Wizzy Piggy I don't see why Skyrim gets so much praise. As an RPG, it's great. Technologically, its broken. Broken, glitchy as hell games are practically Bethesda's trademark by now. No other "big" developer is this consistently shoddy...
How about you make a game this size and bug free the first time it comes out, then we'll see if you can say that without any problems.
Or just continue playing those games instead of Skyrim. Because it sucks. /opinion

If I have a 200 head job or 5000 head job im still expected to have a 3% or less error ratio. Size should be irrelevant quality should be important. Regardless game is still fun when its working.
Why are you giving head jobs? [Edited on 11.30.2011 11:36 AM PST]
