Competitive pvp is proving to be a hotbed of salty abuse

Before I start, I've played this since vanilla D1 and I KNOW the general consensus will... get good! You know what, I agree and I'm trying. I'm currently competing in the adept ranks and by my own admission I'm generally one of the worst players in the lobby. But getting labelled trash or a bot, or seeing a string of symbols because you know full well someone is swearing at you... It's sooooo unmotivating but there's little you can do about these people. It isn't harsh enough to warrant reporting and I generally say to people, blame bungie (match making), blame the player count or whatever but do these people really think berating someone after 2 minutes is A. Going to make them want to play better and help them or B. Quit playing pvp like they suggest half the time. Rant over, sorry, but I can't be alone in this feeling EDIT: Totally appreciate all of the positive feedback here. The community is learned to love lives on even if somewhat diminished

You'd have the opportunity to improve if you were being placed in matches with players around your skill level. This generally affords you the time and breathing room to figure out what you don't know, what you need to know, and why what you're doing isn't working so you can climb the skill ladder and start applying your improved decision making to a higher skill level, placing you with players of that same improved skill so you can further improve. You know, sort of akin to something like Rec Ball where you don't have to worry about Lebron materializing on your court and humiliating you. Instead, you get dumped in with a bunch of wannabee Lebrons that, while they aren't nearly skilled enough to actually be a Lebron, will still gleefully gatekeep you from ever learning something because they need their ego stroked. They're so desperate for fodder in PvP that they scream and cry anytime they're "forced" to face people their own skill level because "they don't want to sweat every match." These people see you as their stress relief ball. You are there to be smashed and squeezed because you are there to make them feel better. This, unfortunately, is not likely to change which leaves your only option to quit or stubbornly continue to bang your head into a wall until you either end up quitting anyway or force skill progression after a year of what should have only taken a few months. Either way, your stats are cratered forever. EDIT: yup, there's the expected downvotes from the people who hate SBMM putting them in their rightful place, right on schedule

    • The matchmaking is purposely broken and purposely rigged. It clearly will not let you progress. It’s a complete joke. There’s just no game for me to play anymore that I like everything sucks. Strange but true I’m not jumping on the marathon train.

      • No matter how "good" you are, there will be games where the other team has a built in advantage and you are going to get smoked. That is the nature of inconsistent/ disparate network communications. In some of those matches you will be playing with holy spoiled brats with anger management issues. Engaging is a waste of time. Block them. I had to block a guy yesterday. Whining every time he got killed. Calling everyone else trash. Saying I should have been doing 3 or 4 things in the space of 2 seconds while I was actually reviving our 3rd teammate. Against my better judgement I turned on my mic and said I was reviving the other guy. The proper response would be "Oh my bad." But no, that just led to a string of "you're trash, you suck, learn to play" blah blah blah and then silence as I hit the block button and sent him into the eternal abyss forevermore. Problem solved. I turn chat off as well. If they are really mad they will start shooting you in the head. If they do that more than once I get out my glaive and spend the rest of the match slamming them in the skull with it =D

      • Just turn off chat and do your best. Anyone taking Destiny 2 PvP seriously right now is bananas anyways.

      • Half the time I give tactical advice mf'ers get salty too, so it's not just good players to bad, but also bad players not wanting to hear how they can do better. Destiny community just isn't great and at this point that's just how it is

      • I went 1-1 in comp today. Played OK in the 1st game, played really well in my 2nd. Won the 1st lost the 2nd, in the 2nd I was stuck with some bad, bad teammates--all thumbs. What did I do after the game? Vent my frustrations? No. I went to the next game like you're susposed to do.

          • If your in Adept lobbies, you're pretty good man. You're definitely not trash. Take that as a win. You will always find salty sweatlords. Your already in a bracket that 75% of the base wouldn't make it to. Anyone calling you trash has just given up on life. Probably.

          • The way I see it if they have to try so hard to kill you that makes you a threat and in my book if you're just playing to play and they're sweating that makes you a better player cuz you're having fun rather than working for it hard as they are

          • I quit PvP a long time ago and have almost quit the game completely as I just do solo weeklies for BD. If you intend to continue all I would suggest is:- Turn off messaging - Anything someone else is thinking means NOTHING, same as an opinion. Bear in mind the reduced player count means more sweats in lobbies and that mindset rarely plays well with others especially after sweat on sweat action - UGH! Cheats in lobbies may be more common again due to player count - pity the skill-less and move on. If you encounter friendly players try friending up and form a squad to improve and clean house together. Hth.
