If this was a Destiny like MMO, with co-op/solo PvE exploration, it would be so much better, and would have been worth a full $70 price tag
So many people would be itching to dive into this world, and not just Destiny players, Bungie fans who checked out after Halo would come back for a Marathon MMO
And it would have peaked much higher than 140k, and wouldn't have nosedived in less than 24 hours
SMH, oh well, Sony and Bungie cant keep from squandering potential
Note, I posted this in off-topic and wound up in D2 forums anyway

Yeah I've even thought this as I saw the preview stuff as Marathon was being built... the original cool movie with the vandal/assassin talking.. there is a lot of lore and they chose to just loop this one activity... Destiny is so friggin bold compared to Marathon... its not even in the same ballpark.. its so tiny and when your target is small and you miss a little bit... its gonna be hard to make the fixes needed... overall from what I've seen even bad reviews... its warmed up on me but I refuse to try or consider it because of how they treated D2... and of course the lack of focus on solos as is usual... I recently saw a vid where the motto of Bungie went from > We make games we want to play... to We make worlds where friendships happen................................................(insert gif of forehead hitting a wall on repeat) -
Agreed. They made decisions that will SEVERELY limit this game’s appeal

Edited by ThePunkPanther: 3/1/2026 4:02:59 PMAgreed. Marathon's aesthetics and lore are so unique that it's a real shame that it has become this; a focused pvp extraction shooter. A Destiny-like game would have been so much better and sold way more too. I'm glad I tried it because now I know I won't buy the game. I hope Sony will push Bungie to eventually release some form of pve only campaign to play alone or in coop.

The extraction shooter is fun, but I’d love to play an arena shooter game mode with this gunplay and abilities too. Doesn’t need to be a priority and could be totally bare bones. No problem having options.

Yea this i strongly admit it was wasted It would have been better if it was a lot like destiny except giving us perk rolls we got weapons customization by farming parts Idk why they didn't invent a PvE mode because they have the tools they could've easily did a "Lawless Frontier" like mode The game has potential but can the "Current" BUNGIE bring it out to draw in a bigger audience that's questionable.

1 ReplyI agree I love the artistic direction and the build crafting, the gunfight looks tight, but I do not care for extraction shooter at all. I wish they had a campaign and PvE only mode.

21 RepliesIt's really good though. Not perfect. The 2nd ARG is happening. People are musing on secrets and finding world bosses. Players are nice. 90% of my interactions have been positive queuing with randoms. The game is deep. I finally got over my last hump. Now I can grind levels and upgrades on the trees. Practice contracts, learn the maps. Perimeter has grown on me too.
