Ability Animations are waaaay too long…

The ability animations are way too long. By the time you realize you need to pop a healing rift, the animation is so long that you just die mid animation, making that ability pretty useless. In fact this whole entire game is structured around making our abilities as useless as possible. But the animation thing is really silly. And while we’re at it, so is weapon reload speeds. For a game as fast paced as this, you’ve already weaken our abilities with Power Levels and enemy abilities, no need to also slow us down as well. That’s overkill IMO. It would be much more fun to be able to dip behind cover and do a fast ability pop or weapon reload making us feel at least a little more on par with what we are fighting and keeping the fast moving pace of the game in tact.

  • thats a 2017 debate here again for the 20000th time, rift isnt a "get out of jail" free card like a dodge its meant to be used ina dvance for a duel, so you have an advantage, or to be used safely to recover quickly not to suddenly eat tons of dmg like its overwatch thats what phoenix dive is actually meant for, as for weapon reloads it is 100% wrong unless you somehow only use slow reload weapon, with no reload perks, no armor mods, no reload stats on the gun etc...

    • If you’re popping rift basically mid death animation, that’s on you.

      • Agreed. The people here are saying you should be using a rift as a “Fortification” idea, but what’s the point in wasting a healing rift if you don’t need healing? Certainly not intimidation purposes, it gives people more incentive to rush around the corner with a shotgun and kill you through the animation. Wanna talk about fortifying a position? TITAN BARRICADES. Hunters get I-frames when they dodge, and quickly shift behind cover to avoid damage. Titans take decently long for the animation to finish, but at least a huge barricade is protecting them for the 2nd half of it. Warlocks are just sat there. Doesn’t matter if you popped rift, you have no protection. What I’m getting at is that Titan barricades, the thing MADE FOR FORTIFICATION of a point, CAN be used as a panic button. Yet somehow Warlock rifts can’t.

        • I agree. The rift animation should be quicker. I never get killed in a rift because I pop it behind cover. However, on principle, OP is right. Hunter dodge is instantaneous and titan barricade launches under 1 sec with a shoulder charge animation. Warlock rift deployment looks cool, but it’s a full second to deploy and the heal rate doesn’t stack with anything…only overshield durability from class stat.

        • Ah yes, you must want the power of the witness... The rift will now take effect with just a flick of your flimsy weak wrist... Your weak soft gooey body shouldn't be able to die as fast since your wrist seems to constantly be in a flicking state...

The iteration of a certain scout reloading gets you plugged whilst it draws breath therefore rendering it useless in a lot of activities.

            • True, especially for rift. But the real thing is that there are no invincibility frames. I can literally go behind cover, cast a rift, and the time that it takes casting it is enough for an enemy to move to get an angle on me and one-shot me.

            • It's supposed to be something to reinforce a position BEFORE you start getting into a fight. You're also not supposed to pop it in an open field, just so you know. It's more supposed to take care of your wounds while you're in cover. Too bad the cover system doesn't exist. I guess you could combine it with barricade, especially Rally, although that wouldn't be effective in PVP when somebody brings out a sniper. LOOK OUT CARMINE!!!

              • I believe you found the solution when you said (paraphrasing) “dip behind cover and pop an ability or reload.” Rift and barricade can be placed 50/50 in and out of cover, and still be quite useful. They’re not meant to be placed when you are 1-shot. As long as we’re talking about PVE only, abilities aren’t really a panic button, except on hunter. I play Titan, and anticipate putting down a barrier, knowing how much damage it will absorb over time. I think using abilities slightly ahead of when you think will help your moment to moment gameplay. The abilities are strong, and offset justly by animation. Peak a corner while dropping said ability, and you’ll find much more utility. Just trying to help. Good luck guardian!

                • This is dumb. You’re dumb! You’d much rather not reload at all, nor have any animation stagger within the game, which is just so stupid. That’s one of the few forms of skill expression in the game, being able to recognize that oh -blam!-, ima bout to hit critical health, let me pop my Rift, but no, that’s not satisfactory for you. You want the game to be as easy as possible (it’s easy enough as is. Base content doesn’t even pose a minor threat), and you won’t be satisfied till even the hardest content in the game is made to be as easy as current base! You’re STUPID!

                  • If you're trying to pop a rift as you're dying, that's a you problem. Rifts arent a get out of jail free card. Use some forward thinking and put it down preemptively in situations where you know you're going to need it. Thats why it provides an overshield as well. Ive had zero problems with rift animation problems because I don't run out into the open and expect a rift to bail me out. Also reload is too long? What are you on about? Reloads are short as hell and they give you mods and exotics for each class that make it even shorter. Each class can get reloads so damn fast you physically cant see the animations. Its just a bunch of wiggles followed by a click.

                  • It’s not that bad. Just seek out cover and pop it then. The long animation helps balance it out since it’s free healing. If you run solar or prismatic a lot then I would suggest using phoenix dive because it’s animation is alot faster if you jump then press the dive button.

                  • I think it’s fine as it is. I place rifts preemptively, not as a last-ditch effort when I’m already in red health and under fire. Which, in my opinion, wouldn't work that well in endgame content anyway, even if placed instantly. And barriers also provide benefits beyond just "serving as a panic button". As for reload times, there are various buffs from weapon perks or subclass passives (being Amplified for example)

                    • The only part where I agree is the revive animation. Both in PvE and PvP that thing is a dead weight, how many time did I die just waiting for that thing to finish. For the rest, never had any issue.
