STOP KILLING GAMES!!!

If proper attempts at games archival was implemented we would have access to all of destiny.... imagine the whole of destiny playable at any time there would be so many more people playing..... Also sign the petition, cast your votes....if the gaming community can save GameStop for the memes we can change gaming for the better for the world....

  • Some replies here that make me have to post this: 1. Go read the initiative on its site first before commenting. 2. If you want a YouTube video, look up "Accursed Farms," the founder. 3. Don't fall into the trap of becoming a 2nd PirateSoftware. Do the first two things, please.

  • Unfortunately, in Destiny's case, the content doesn't actually exist anymore. They weren't even able to get the Red War campaign in their defense against a lawsuit -- it's gone gone. It's too late for Destiny, at least insofar as whatever they've already taken out of the game. It's not too late for Destiny to "survive" its EoL date in whatever state it's in once it gets there, but we're not getting anything back that's already gone because the only way Bungie can "restore" it would be to build it all again from scratch.

      • Dunno why we couldn't just download the content they didn't want in the game anymore. Would be nice to be able to play some "old" Destiny, even offline. Another wasted opportunity.

        • They couldn't recover red war for a court order and had to use footage to try to prove they didn't steal the narrative. They aren't rebuilding it cause we complain in their forums.

          • I was literally going to say something just like this on another post - with everything I’ve missed out on, I could have easily seen a few thousand more hours in my future here. They really need to do a case study on how bungie squandered one of the most successful IP’s of our time… The number of assets they literally deleted is beyond idiotic

Also for those saying that their is content already gone, I get argument, but there’s still a Destiny2, right? Would you like a legal way to still own what you payed for?

            •
imagine the whole of destiny playable at any time there would be so many more people playing....
The whole of Destiny 2 isn't very good though? Red War was mid and Warmind and Curse of Osiris were both terrible. Forsaken was pretty good, but a lot of the stuff that people want back so bad was average at best and -blam!- at worst. Honestly the last time this game had really solid content was Witch Queen. Am I the only person that remembers this? Because it feels like I'm being gaslit.

              • I remember when my kids were toddlers. They had plenty of toys they didn’t like, and never played with. But the moment I took one away - that was the toy they HAD to have. Not saying people who complain about old content nobody plays being removed are toddlers. But reading this post did bring that memory to the forefront of my mind… 🙂

                • Let's for the sake of discussion assume that the proposed petition would be law tomorrow in its entirety. Tomorrow morning Bungie shuts down their backend servers where your character info resides, they release the binaries for their backend runtimes, and that's it, destiny 2 is still playable, you can launch it from steam, pass the title screen and that's it, error messages because there's no servers to contact, your characters, items, progression all gone, forever. The game is still playable, it runs, in compliance with what the petition asked. So until someone sets up a private backend hosted somewhere you cannot play any content , or you could self host and play the campaigns ( at least those missions without matchmaking mandatory like excision) all the other things are out of question. And even if somebody sets up a public backend do you think they'll have the same hardware resources that bungie uses now for thousands of players? If now on new dlcs we have long ques to even log in, imagine with a lousy home server what a shitshow it would be. Well this was all for the sake of discussion. The harsh reality is that you are expecting the EU commission to actually give a crap about this petition. The same EU commission that is relentlessly making efforts to dismantle the end to end encryption on devices with backdoors, and they CENSORED THE NAMES OF THE LOBBYIST WHO PROPOSED SUCH LAW FOR MAINTAINING THEIR PRIVACY. They'll smile and say that this ruins the economy, what's important now for the EU is to find every penny to pay the US weapons industries to rearm themselves , who the -blam!- cares about videogames?

                  • First of all, destiny is playable at any time, buy the expansion. Second, no it would not increase player activity and wouldn’t make sense to most people trying to follow the timeline. Idk what this post is about so next time be sure to go over bungie’s rules on giving “feedback”. “Feedback is Welcome When Given Appropriately We want to hear your feedback, but there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to share it. Feedback shouldn’t be targeted at an individual or team, but at Bungie, the company. Feedback should be respectful and constructive. Feedback that is disrespectful or includes hate speech, personal attacks, harassment, stalking, violations of privacy, or threats may have in-game and real-life consequences, such as contacting law enforcement.”

                  • It’s crazy because since Bungie deleted so much of this game there is no way they could ever sell it again. There will never be a “Collectors” Edition or a complete package or a Destiny remaster years down the line for new and returning players. Zero Replayability Such a terrible development path cause it’s means the only way Destiny continues is by surviving off the few whales that stick around.

I'd support it if it was good. If it was practical. It's too idealistic. Read what they want. It will have the opposite effect. Any game with any type of independent servers or limited developer support WILL disappear immediately. It's already happening in anticipation should these regulations happen. EA shut down Anthem. MS is laying off 1000s... Big corporations will and are adapting... independent development will be crushed by it. And game prices already rising will go up even more. If you force developers to permanently archive what has become a digital/data driven marketplace. It sounds good. It won't be. Going to suck. Edit: To add a little context when the digital media revolution happened there were initially ideas to put media on flash memory... thumb drive media sticks. This would have changed the current environment and dilemma. It didn't happen... the closest we've seen is Nintendo... and often those cards are download urls. Because it's cost prohibitive. Unsustainable... chip set resources and distribution networks are already stressed to their limits. You might be aware of the dubious ethical concerns around cobalt mining... it's the same for lithium and other rare earth materials needed for tech manufacturing. It was about money... but it was also about resources. That's why the world went digital. And letting data go... is what IS most cost efficient, not just for developers and their bottom line/profits... for consumers too. Same with film... it all went digital. Same with music. Photography. Our choices will be less, everything will cost more. Creativity will suffer... it will all be focus grouped for maximum RPU and maximum demographics. AI will take over.

                      • Wouldn’t apply to bungie since they’re an American based company and European law can’t demand a foreign company give up its intellectual property rights. Also in order to sign you need to be a European

                        • Ok gonna play devil's advocate here. Game preservation laws should not be counted for live service games or mmo games as the servers cost money to run and if they are forced to maintain a server for essentially free that just hurts the business long term. For instance you cant expect a game on a mega server to stay on and playable if the game itself no longer makes enough revenue as it would be constant loss of money and devs that could otherwise be working on other projects. For single player absolutely have game preservation laws but for online ones it's just not fair on the studio that has to foot the bill without any good financial return. Forcing a studio to maintain a dead game would only result in layoffs and studio closures. Now yes they could find ways to offset it for games on cheaper servers great but for games on dedicated servers its just not viable without layoffs to cover costs.
