Destiny 2 has been really held back due to Bungie trying to be able to make this game compatible with old gen consoles like the Xbox One and PS4. But the support must be dropped
Imagine what Bungie could add to the game if this was a current gen exclusive game. There could possibly be a chance that all the vaulted content could come back because there is no way all that would run on old gen consoles.
And for people who don’t have a current gen console, there really isn’t an excuse to not have one. It’s been a few years since an Xbox Series console or PS5 released

I'm still on PS4 and still have a backlog of single player games along with D2. I have no intention of buying a PS5 and it's not because of money, it is the size of the damn thing! I have my PS4 in the living room hooked into my TV and a PS5 (including the so-called "slim" version) will not fit. I am waiting to see what the PS6 dimensions will be, and if that is just as big and ugly I'll be ditching Sony altogether. Regardless, Sony ditching last gen at this point would be shooting themselves in the foot as they will be killing off a huge chunk of their playerbase and without a full rebuild the current gen won't benefit either.

You need to open the basement door of your mom’s house and take a look at the real world outside. Bungie are scrapping for every dollar they can get right now and if you think dropping probably a 1/3 of their player base is a smart idea…well don’t ever go into business. As for what Bungie could do?… Destiny is their only cash cow and they are going to milk it dry.

Not everyone has the money to go out and get a next gen console. You do realise there's a cost of living crisis right now? Yes I'm a PS4 player, I would love a PS5 but I'm sure I speak for a few people when I say I have more important priorities.

Decent idea, however, the issue is, we are only one new generation out for Xbox/ PS. If we were 2-3 new consoles out, that change would make more sense. I will assume, most gamers aren’t going to buy a PS 5 Pro just to play a 7 year old game on. Even less likely if they already have the base PS5. I don’t know enough, but would D2 run or look significantly better on the PS 5 Pro? It’s not listed on the Enhanced Games for the Pro. The PS 5 Pro :Base is $699.99 or the 30th Anniversary Bundle: $999.99 (American $).

2 RepliesAgree that old gen is holding the game back partly atleast. But even now a lot of people can't afford to upgrade or don't until their current console is broke its a question of how much of the current playerbase are still on old gen to on abandoning old gen.

Edited by SavvyMon: 4/20/2025 4:01:46 PMOld gen support should have ended with witch queen’s release.

It would certainly be more reflective of the post final shape player base. I’m staying on PS4 and earlier consoles. Future’s not looking too bright for the industry

4 RepliesGreat idea! Best to further alienate or remove paying customers for no particular reason. In fact they should further limit it to just pc players and remove all console revenue and engagement sources.

Edited by Toots238857: 4/21/2025 2:02:18 AMHow you can tell someone that there's no excuse not to have a new system...because YOU deem it so, is crazy. Talk about priorities. You kids today, I swear. Not to mention everything you mentioned about Bungie, is hypothetical at best. Who says any of that will happen because you will it so? Lol people gotta upgrade just to make YOU happy? 🤣

7 RepliesWe’re gonna be on the new gen of consoles like Xbox series x 2 and ps6 soon and Xbox one and ps4 will still somehow have d2 support

I don’t think it’s that’s simple. Firstly, if unvaulting was that simple the games file size would at minimum double with one update and a lot of players unless they’re paying for extra storage SSDs or drives (which are expensive to buy to run XS formatted games on) many console players could only have Destiny on their system. Next a fair amount of the game has either significantly power crept the old content or has been out of the game so long that it might struggle to run ( think about all the cracks in the patrol around Nessus and EDZ). Finally with all the layoffs and split focus at Bungie They might not have the manpower to spare to maintain such content, especially with rock bottom player counts. I want a lot of that content back too, and am still seething over that it was paid and no reimbursement (out of or in game) was ever offered or given; but it is not really realistic to unvault it either.

2 RepliesEdited by PK_Haseo: 4/19/2025 8:41:59 PMOr “Destiny 2” just needs to End. It’s not a MMO like WoW. Too many mismanaged with progression systems from “Crafting”, “Leveling” weapons an then we getting “Tier” weapons & armor :/ might as well delete everything when the latest system rolls out. Feel like “Sunsetting” all over again.

3 RepliesIs there any data on how many d2 players are still using the old consoles? Given the state of the player base, perhaps Bungie can't afford to cut these guys adrift as much as they'd like to.

It would make absolutely zero difference to this game because to add new things it would need to be compatible with the rest of the game, so they'd have to rewrite the whole game & that would take years. There's also the fact the playerbase is now tiny, so profits are dropping year on year that they'll never be given budget for something like that. Also 50% of playstation players are still on PS4, so not only are you asking them to spend millions to upgrade the entire game you're also asking for half the player base to be cut adrift, causing profit to drop a lot & causing huge matchmaking issues for those -blam!-. Your logic is very flawed. Take destiny as it is, or play new gen only games, would be my advice.
