How is it, that you guys code stairs the WORST in the entire industry? I get caught on stairs ALL THE TIME just trying to walk up them, getting caught and having to jump to just to go up. Rarely, I even have to do a vaulting animation.
Some great examples include the stairs in the caretaker encounter, the stairs outside the bomb rooms on puppeteer, and any stairs in the Vault of glass. SEVERAL PVP MAPS.
WTF? Fix this.

2 RepliesAt least these days the act of stubbing your toe doesn't get you killed by the Architects. Still annoying AF when you snag on something a hedgehog wouldn't think twice about crossing. There should be an emblem as a homage to stubbed toes and lost guardians.

Edited by Kiro - 13: 12/1/2024 8:28:27 PMYou can use stairs and other uneven surfaces in conjunction with burst glide or catapult lift to enhance your movement speed by gaming changing amounts. ie stair skate. They wont change it because uneven surfaces benefit 2/3rd of the classes once you master movement.
-
Not just stairs, but also slanted surfaces, uneven terrain, tiny ledges, and rocks. Your toes can get stuck on just about anything, it used to insta-kill you from those darn Architects, it usually doesn't anymore but it is an inconvenience.
-
I love how people can shoot up stairs but you can’t see em.

3 RepliesI have died in GMs or Crucible many, many times due to getting stuck on a one inch tall rock, ledge, blade of grass, etc.

1 ReplyEdited by Zodleon: 12/1/2024 3:51:18 AMAs a spike/trip nade enjoyer, piggy backing off this concept, why in the **** is every wall in crucible lovingly crafted with full and miniscule detail seeming purpose built to aim my grenade in nonsense directions. Obviously on some parts it makes sense but others the size of a pixel is just unnecessary. Maybe swap the stairs guy and the wall guy. Also, what happened to the clan banner guy.

1 ReplyIn general I find that they just built stuff to annoy, look at the trees in the tower with the Halloween event, just a struggle to get in and move around the trees, the part in Grasp of Avarice dungeon after the oger fight where you fly through the portal, but then you need to get back to the top to get the chest. Just furiously frustrating. I can go on but I just don't know why they have to do this.

I love going airborne over stairs without jumping
-
It's not really stairs for me but something very similar, in that there are tons of tiny ledges that you can't walk over and get stuck. Only a few inches off the ground and you have to specifically jump to get over an ankle-high elevation change.
-
That’s funny, I got like sucked into the side of the stairs today in the HELM and floated upwards until I hit the ceiling. Never had anything like that happen ever. Has to go to orbit.

Best link I could find for them to use as a step by step guide to making proper stairs: https://explosm.net/comics/how-to-draw-stairs#comic

Insight term is the worst offender with stairs and curbs , annoying

1 ReplyYou're not related to Claptrap by any means, are you?

And those grabby-@ss corners. I'm telling you, I think they're made out of fly paper sometimes. I just instinctually jump up stairs. I've been doing that for a long time.

This is so true haha

Wait, am I the only one who can walk up stairs without issues? Am I a hacker? 🫨

3 RepliesBeen this way since Halo, especially Halo 2 days where your player is struggling to get up one step, stairs have always been awful in Bungie's engine.
-
Man you would truely hate the original Prison of Elders with Skolas. There was a million places to trip up or just plain get stuck on and Skolas burn would fry you endlessly, over and over and over. It was so bad we never got mad just laughed and laughed (else we would have gone totally, absolutely insane!)

Sometimes I think our guardian is incapable of actually lifting his feet, he is cross country skiing around everywhere
-
I’ve often wondered this I get stuck on a rock or a bush all the time seriously he can’t step over a -blam!- curb

Edited by ForeverLaxx: 11/30/2024 5:16:40 PMIt's because they, in their infinite wisdom, made every nook, cranny, crack, and elevation change part of the terrain mesh. Dark Souls (and other games) solved this decades ago. Original Halo didn't have this problem either, but that's what happens when you replace all the people who know what they're doing with people that read a wiki article on how to do something. EDIT: Also, Bungie: fix your archaic word filter. I hate having to edit posts that contain no "naughty words" simply because your filter flips out and thinks I'm trying to skirt around it by putting spaces in my sentences.

I can literally slide up stairs, sounds like a 'you' problem
-
They program that purposely to make you die just like when they steal a jump and I would even say the background moves as well.
-
Yes. Stairs collision has gotten worse over time it feels like

5 RepliesI swear, you people cry all the time about how "mobility is a useless stat", and then complain about the results of low mobility. It's simple. Either increase your mobility stat or learn to jump everywhere you go.
