How the Echoes Expand the World of Destiny

With the intro cinematic for Act 2 of Echoes, and the Dynasty lore books released at the end of each Act, we know the Echoes contain the memories of those races and individuals who were assimilated into the Witness' gestalt consciousness. With Echoes, all signs point towards the memories of the Qugu being what makes up the Echo of Command, particularly the Dynasty lore book entries that release at the end of each Act (I presume, since I unlocked all three entries by completing the first Act on all three characters). As a story development, I love this. For starters, it highlights the power of the newly discovered Prismatic force, the result of removing the line between Light and Dark. As an unintentional side-effect of using Light to unmake the Witness, its Darkness - its memory - fused with the Light and remade those contained within its mind, its memories, into powerful relics of paracausality reflecting the memories that made them. It also has vast implications with the Traveler becoming a being that is a union of Light and Darkness when it used to be a being of pure Light. It was perhaps the best way to continue the story after the Witness' defeat. Instead of conjuring a new villain from nothing (- cough- Marvel Cinematic Universe - cough - ) because the current story definitively ended, the effects of the Witness' defeat, and the means through which it was done, lead directly into new story developments that tie into the old ones set up before Final Shape. But one of the better parts to me is how the Echoes are being used to expand the world of Destiny as a whole. Before the Root of Nightmares lore book, the only mention of the Qugu was in the Books of Sorrow as one of the races destroyed by the Hive. Inspiral gave us a look at a specific memory of the Qugu, the first to show they were a race that had a connection to Darkness. Now, the Dynasty lore book gives us a clear, extended look at the Qugu through the memories of Te'Qal, and their final days. In all likelihood, this is building towards the moment when Te'Qal and the memories of the Qugu are assimilated into the Witness. If not for the Echoes, the Qugu would have likely remained footnotes in the lore - with only one entry in the Books of Sorrow, and another in Inspiral. Now, however, they might have surged to the forefront through the Echo of Command. I am excited to see what other races' memories might be tied to any future Echoes we encounter, as a result, since many races we have only heard of through lore in the past now have a chance to enter the spotlight. Who knows? Depending on the number of Echoes (at least three so far, but there'll likely be more), we might even see new races introduced through them.

It’s recycling old stuff when they said the episodes are going to tell new stories? So if the Qugu are supposed to be these “new” stories then that’s indicative of low effort. And they are doing post DL finale? They are just recycling old ideas and concepts to make new content. That’s creative bankruptcy. And praising that is a bad idea. But I can understand the hope it will amount to something.
