THIS IS BOSS FIGHT IS SIMPLY NOT FUN! It’s like pins-and-need fighting — which is MAYBE winning by sheer luck! Calus doesn’t stagger, there is no save area…you struggle for higher power level to get an edge, and Bungie caps your power to ensure you are overwhelmed! ANDDDD any strategic way the community has figured out how to win, bungie goes and patches everything up! Thus, if you enjoy STRESS (no challenge or joy) and dying all the time before you MAYBE or LUCKILY win, then hey!

I fought Calus for three days before I figured it out! I used outbreak perfected and would shoot him for 30 seconds and then run counterclockwise on the outer rails then stop shoot them for 30 seconds then run some more until the weird guys with the purple bombs show up and I would shoot them for 30 seconds run, clockwise on the outer rails, rinse and repeat, eventually whittling Calus’s health down! The second phase took me like one minute to kill him because he didn’t have much health! I used my warlock, storm caller and the outbreak perfected was a beast.
you struggle for higher power level to get an edge, and Bungie caps your power
That is the point of it.
there is no save area
Have you actually played the encounter?
Thus, if you enjoy STRESS (no challenge or joy) and dying all the time before you MAYBE or LUCKILY win, then hey!
Whatever makes you sleep at night

I gotta be honest I solod this for my two friends after the three of us couldn’t beat him with the scaling and took me two mins to get him to second phase and a hair away from death then reinvited them. You should probably beat it on normal get strand run witherhord and the Ron slug and linear, pop the two tormentors suspend and burn them and switch back to your rockets or whatever and there you go. At your level solo should be a cinch.
-
Do normal than... clearly it's a skill issue
-
Strand worked really well in the last boss fight.

I checked the fight on Youtube back in the day and decided, that my sanity (and a functional TV/controller) is more important than a number next to my Guardian locked behind an abysmally designed boss fight (# forever Elite rank)...

Just stick a witherhoard and rocket launcher on and jump/float in circles around the boss tagging him with witherhoard. Bit cheesy but Easy peasy. Don’t even need to damage the tormentors as they stay slow. Done it with all 3 characters that way

I guess you didn't get the memo. Endgame loadouts are needed to complete endgame. It's really as simple as that. You are going to fail if you aren't set up to win.

Edited by SaintX: 8/21/2023 5:41:35 PMFor lock or titan, withoard/smg/lmg, I didnt use strand on any class, seeing how you only get a grapple nade. My warlock build was devour/necrotic, used ostio/forbearance/ dsc lmg. Titan the same bubble/helm of saint ostio/forbearance/vog lmg. Focus torments when they spawn keep moving around the outside ring super when you can. Final phase just jump around, ive noticed he take a bit more dmg then normal so its pretty easy to just hip fire ostio an let the posion do dmg an swap to forbearance a few time for psions

4 RepliesI used strand on all characters or at least the warlock and Titan I'm not sure if I have finished it yet with the hunter, but anyhow the shackle grenade is what I used. I started on the outside of the main area and kept moving and stopped at certain places that provided cover and shot his swirling things that track you. When super is full I unloaded it on the mf and then repeated the process or again until the tormenters came out I suspended him and hit him hard but kept and eye out on the tracking swirling things and when done I keep moving. When I got to the center I just didn't stop moving and threw my grenade nothing else until my super came and let him have it. Until Dead. I understand the frustration but you can get through it. It just takes some time and the right timing. I know I completed it solo but by far it wasn't flawless but it can be done.

4 RepliesTook me about 3 deaths before I managed to solo Calus, now that I've figured out a good strat I regularly help people clear it for the first time. It's a really easy fight once you work out a strategy. Strand is your best friend in that fight, use suppression/suspend on tormentors and it's a breeze
-
3 Repliesis called skill issue, legendary is supposed to be hard done it solo and 3 stack before the hp scaling nerf , and if you are using the guns i see on your pg is normal you fail STOP USING DOGSHIT GUNS FOR HARD MODES
-
Agreed. It's designed to try to force you into strand grappling. Bungie wishes it's playerbase we're all tweens.
-
2 Repliesholy fuck that fight is dogshit the epitome of everything wrong with bungies idea of difficulty.
-
Calus himself isn't that hard it's just a collection of annoying/unfair things that makes it an unpleasant experience. Tormentors that will follow you to hell ? Check. Cabal troops that will hit you with just enough force to push you over the edge ? Check. The whole arena is devoid of "safe" zones and you can fall to your death everywhere ? Check.

I cheesed my 3 characters through that legendary fight back in feb/mar after wasting too much time failing different build strats. Then I helped a friend through Calus legendary the cheesy way about a month ago. Legendary Campaign was fine but I don't think I'll bother with Legendary Final Shape.
-
That boss is the prime example of Bungie punishing players who don't have certain weapons. Don't have something that does damage over time like Witherhoard or Osteo? Sucks to be you.
-
Its easy if you have problems with it keep moving and use witherhourd for tick damage. Stick a well down oh its final phase and just stand there its a joke honestly.
-
I'm more or less glad I don't have to do it again fight was annoying I think I helped another person do it before the patches.
-
It’s not a fun encounter, but if you use blinding nades on the tormentor it’s easier.

For Titan and Warlock keep flying in big circles on the edge of the arena and grapple punch Psions, it will keep you alive and generate special ammo. Occasionally fire Witherhoard grenade at Calus, keep this up as your main strategy. Bring a Machinegun as your Heavy for ad clear or for when the Tormentors spawn in. Machinegun mag-dump the Tormentors. For phase 2 of Calus use the initial strategy and try to avoid getting smacked, Strand-punch spiderman your way in circles and keep chipping away at Calus with a shot from Witherhoard. This method works but can take some time to do, it will need Witherhoard, without Witherhoard it will take way longer but may still work as a strategy. Always keep running and grappling into Psions, its the only way to stay alive. If you need to, use the long arena platforms for the Tormentor fights as well as the half-moon elevated platforms. Note that for the side platforms it will require heavy ad-clear. For all classes use super on Calus, once it recharges again you should have it back in Second phase to help kill him a bit faster, I usually save the second super for when he is almost dead to finish him off. For any Hunter, good luck.

4 Repliesor just cheese it✌🏾
-
hmm, well, try invis hunter with graviton, witherhoard for 2nd phase, bow for long range calus melt in 1st phase super and machine gun for the tormentor the little room for movement is bad, specially when calus bombards the entire walkway/hiding spot with instakill rockets

Man you think legendary is rough try Master

Leviathans Breath will stagger him
