Long time player, and I’ve spent years convincing people to give it a try and to try and dive into the world that you created.
I just wanted to give some feedback in regards to the new direction this game is going.
You have every right to change whatever it is you want with the game, for sure… but at the same time it starting to feel like it isn’t OUR game anymore. Personally, I started to fade away from Destiny after the seasonal model started, and I came back full force with beyond light.
There was that dark and mysterious theme surrounding the game again, and the feeling of dread could still be felt sometimes like when you discovered a dark monument in the DSC. In my opinion, Destiny has always felt visceral and weighty when the themes were dark and grim.
But since Lightfall, the big expansion we were all waiting for, we see the exact opposite.
What was once VERY convincing writing that drove a dark narrative forward with slight comic relief and intrigue turned into what looks like new writers who have zero self awareness as they dismantle everything that made destiny great. I’m sorry, it’s just so obvious that someone “thought” they new better than the experience writers.
I now have lost all confidence in the world I loved for so many years. I see the writing team snipping things up almost on a whim to force the game into a narrative we never wanted.

2 RepliesLightfall was a clear miss but it’s basically filler in my opinion. Witch Queen was a great year of Destiny and we’ve had many ups and downs before so I’m cautiously optimistic for Final Shape. It’s looking like Crota is getting remastered next season so I’m really excited for that it had my favorite looking armor and weapons in Destiny. I know a lot of people aren’t looking forward to Crota but I think they’ll surprise us with some new mechanics. And even if it’s easy that raid was one of the most replayable because it had the fun factor that the remaining D2 raids that haven’t come back didn’t have. Now is the time to take a break guys. This year just didn’t hit like it was supposed to but as Bungie usually does they will probably give us a much better expansion next time. They typically don’t make back to back banger dlcs. At the very least this year brought us an easy raid to grind through for a few decent weapons and we got a great seasonal dungeon so there is stuff to hold us over for the next release. I haven’t played in weeks but I’m excited for the showcase in August.

1 ReplyFor me, the combination of how badly the narrative has been executed this year so far and the selective loot stinginess that has become such a frustratingly inconsistent experience has just been so off putting. Every week is just trying to scrape together people from my clan/friends to do raids for red borders. That’s it. We’d be running dungeons too if dungeon burnout hadn’t set in back when Duality released. If those weapons were craftable we’d be running dungeons weekly too but nobody feels like they’re worth running because we can’t ever get what we want from them because of how bad it is trying to farm rolls. We were done with Ghosts after just a few weeks and barely anyone has played Spire since the season it launched. There’s no reliable way to chase world weapon rolls, new playlist weapon drop rates are abysmal for now, the new NF weapons don’t feel worth it and some GMs are just plain not fun for us to run because of how cheaply difficult they are, adept weapons don’t feel worth chasing(especially master raid adepts)…. They delivered narrative badly and are doing what I think is going in the opposite direction when it comes to loot chase and acquisition. They needed to lean more into crafting instead of less, update dungeons, make all adepts enhanceable. Give players chases with visible progress and foreseeable ends instead of being stingy and allowing burnout to set in because of it. We’re approaching low active player numbers that are near the lowest it’s ever been since before Forsaken. Give people more to chase in a reasonable way.

1 ReplyDon't worry, I'm sure they're carefully crafting the next deceptive, slow-motion hype video at this time.

It’s a hamster wheel that makes you play off of FOMO. Once I played a good game that made me want to play it, without any of the pain of monotonous grinding of boring activities, it set me free from destiny 2, and I have never looked back
-
1 ReplyIt never was OUR game...that's where you have been going wrong all along.

2 RepliesTypical woke company. ride the wave of success the actual talent, run the ip into the ground with uninspired npc ideas , inject zero new creative ideas as they are not capable of doing, then ip slowly necrosis into obscurity.

The game is no longer compelling on any level. The tedium was at least somewhat interesting, but you are correct, the absolutely terrible writing has essentially removed all incentive. For the first time in years, I really don't care. I don't care about the story. I don't care about the Final Shape, I don't care about loot. Or my characters that I've had for years. Honestly, don't care if I ever play again. WILL I play again? Sure, I will give every season this year a try. I already bought it. But am I excited to see what is coming? Nope. The same shitty writing is going to be prevalent until the end. I have enough loot to not care whatsoever about anything "new". But yeah, I'll play when the new season comes out. For how long? I guess that just depends.

37 RepliesEdited by The Hermit IX: 7/28/2023 2:24:04 AMDon’t say we. There’s plenty of players, myself included that don’t agree with your take. The apathy thing is played out too. Players only use that word because Bungie said anger and hate are a couple degrees off from love and they get concerned when the player base becomes apathetic. There’s plenty of venom on the forums not apathy. An apathetic player wouldn’t be playing regularly or a rank 10 either. If a player was truly apathetic towards D2 they wouldn’t post about it. As far as the story… Destiny has never had a strong or consistent story. Great lore but an average story at best. People play because of unmatched gunplay and space magic. Destiny sits in its own niche and no other company wants to try to directly compete with them. Bungie is fully aware they own it unchallenged.

It does really feel like there’s been a totally different team in place since Witch Queen ended.
-
It’s because this is a game built on people coming back year after year for at least passable content and we’re halfway through a dlc that has big issues all over (for example: when’s the last time you did Terminal Overload)? The seasonal model is also pretty stale at this point.

This game has been put up by two companies. Activision and Bungie. They’ve agreed to work on it for a certain period of time. Right in the middle, the devs failed to deliver. The game failed and the investor bailed out on the game. Right there, I knew the game is already dead. It’s just being milked for the sake of keeping it alive. Game is in life support. I call it the mummy. Because the game is so dry it’s been mummified! 🤣 I quit playing after the split when Activision threw the game into the trash. You need not look anywhere, the signs are all there of a dead game. They’re literally milking a carcass! 🤣 Absolutely nothing here but a shamble mess of shallowness!🤣

1 ReplyStop blaming the writers or any other rank-and-file employee…they’re just doing what they’ve been told to do. If blame needs a home, it’s with misManagement, ie, BHQ. And they’ve been killing the Destiny golden goose since way back. If anyone is deserving of one’s ire - ‘tis BHQ. 👈 Ease springs! 🫡

This game is unworthy of your time and money. Trust me, you are better off playing something else.
-
The game in its present state is decaying and it’s showing and no hard Destiny 2 fan can deny that. Lightfail was a disappointment and the final act won’t deliver either; Bungie are not interested in this game anymore.

1 ReplyBeen a huge fan of this franchise. Played since D1's beta. This game has been abandoned & the content since S17-present reflects that. For the first time in franchise history & after how bad TWQ's post-expansion content was - I didn't pre-order LF's annual pass, but just the expansions. After how bad LF was I un-installed D2, I don't think I'll be pre-ordering any Destiny content anymore & will be waiting for reviews prior to considering another Destiny purchase. If you seriously wish for Bungie &/or Destiny to change - you need to stop playing & purchasing D2. The only time this community has ever influenced Bungie to revert bad decisions they were stubbornly refusing to change was during Y1 of D2 in CoO. It took Destiny's sales & player population to drop bad enough that Bungie almost had to close up shop. This also got Bungie to produce Forsaken & the content that came in Y2's annual pass. Which IMO is some of the best content we've got for this franchise. Gaming corporations only listen to one kind of feedback = Money & player engagement.
