The matchmaking system that exists in PVP has really been a kick in the teeth for solo players.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to -blam!- about this, and I most certainly will not be the last. But I have long been (over 3 years of playing) a solo player, in both PVE and PVP. Not having fire teams does suck in PVE, as it puts some content out of reach, but I simply do not have the time to commit to regularly interacting with people, nor do I have an interest in LFG.
BUT PVP!?! This nonsense needs to stop! I am regularly (4 out of every 5 matches), pitted up against 2 and 3 stacks. And it's a mercy almost every time. I'll see people just disappear from the roster on my side, either with people dipping or server issues. But even when my team has the "matching" 2 or 3 stack involved, it just makes the solo experience terrible. The stacked teams obviously duke it out, but the freelancers just get stomped and have a vile experience.
I'm not clueless regarding the player base getting too small, so this supposedly helps keep player numbers higher in the different game modes, but that could be remedied by... well I don't know... making crucible enticing to play with rewards that don't suck, or maps that are worth looking at.
Your player base is low because it's not enjoyable. It's not enjoyable because the draw to play isn't there. When we do play, we... get... stomped.
IDK, maybe solo players are a dying breed, and these are just the ramblings of a lost cause.

Well truthfully, without us the servers would be shut down

I only PvP when there's something I want. So far this season there hasn't been.

me, a solo, in Gambit Legend III Something here is wrong.

Without freelance, I've completely stopped playing pvp. Outside of season quest or mayham.

2 RepliesThe blueprint to fix solo PvE already exists. The legendary campaigns are the level of difficulty the rest of the game should be solo. And then when you add more people to your fireteam it gets progressively harder. But they don't want to do that because their original vision was that people would learn to group up, make friends, join clans, etc. They wanted a social game. Unfortunatley social and gaming don't go together. That's why they have literally never done a single thing for clans. Because hardly anyone is in them and the even the ones who participate in them are in mostly dead clans. It's why they never bothered making in game LFG and social tools. Because the vast majority of people don't want to group up. I don't think it even has anything to do with toxicity. It's the simple fact that most people don't care to have random, meaningless conversations with strangers on the internet while they play a video game. But given that Bungie's ego is massive, they will never just admit the game failed socially, and just build it out properly to support solo play which is what everyone is already doing regardless. Honestly, joining and LFG team to do a dungeon or a raid a few times a week isn't really even being social either. The people who do join do so begrudgingly and the goal is to get whatever the activity is done as fast as possible. As far as PvP goes, it's mostly about making sure people win enough to feel incentivized to stay in the playlists. They have all but admitted this. As a solo player you can't overcome the 50% win ratio. Even the best players in the world can't. Whether or not this helps that dying list stay somewhat afloat, I don't know? It will be interesting to see if Marathon pulls away PvP players and what Destiny could look like without them. I don't think Marathon will be successful though and I think all those PvP players who try and leave will be back shortly. And they will just continue to play and complain about Destiny's PvP which hasn't really been touched with any level of significance in years. All that to really say Destiny is NOT worth playing solo. If you don't have actual friends who want to play and play a lot, this is a terrible game to get hooked on by yourself.
-
Lmao you have your forced 50% win ratio so
-
I haven’t had an issue and I’m a .5 kd

1 ReplyIts always been a problem, they dont care and are not fixing it. I play solo as well and all the good stuff requires a fire team and 5hrs of free time. Dont get me wrong good stuff should be hard to get but not take hours on hours and a fireteam to get. I just stopped playing hahahaha

36 RepliesI hate to break it to you, but you just need to get good. Based on your stats you die almost twice as much as you kill. As a solo player myself I don’t have this problem that much. It is truly a skill issue. The good news? If you get better, crucible won’t be so horrible.
nibbles crayon
Agree with you. But LFG is pretty easy to use. You can literally just join and accept anyone's invite without a mic. It's a non-issue for most things, and you can make your own group and people join fast. But that is mostly for PvE. In PvP I like to solo a lot regardless, and yes it is a major crap show right now. Everything about Crucible is so lazy and so mediocre in design. It's awful because the gun mechanics and movement are pretty good. If they would just tone down the OP -blam!- and give us 5v5 for comp, I would be happy as long as the absolutely broken matchmaking did something other than be worst in industry. It's whatever. Bungie doesn't seem to care.

I always end up carrying people for 2 or 3 games in a row, then end up in a sweat match I know I'm supposed to lose in.

1 ReplyEdited by Matayo: 6/12/2023 3:35:03 PMFirst, I agree with you on the loot. There needs to be better loot incentives for below average players in trials. This has long been a request and it’s sad that Bungie won’t truly address it in a meaningful way. Second, sorry man but if you have the time to go through a whole trials card, you absolutely have the time to interact with other people or find a clan of people to play with. You complete raids , dungeons, and grandmasters in the same amount of time as a trials card. This “I don’t have time” excuse isn’t valid. Third, on the matchmaking point, hard disagree. Sorry bud, but if you aren’t good enough to go flawless that’s ok. It’s not for everyone, and it shouldn’t be. If you aren’t good enough to get out of silver in comp, you aren’t good enough to go flawless. Bungie already hands out participation trophies like candy, and it has to stop somewhere. It’s the same in PVE. Not everyone is good enough to complete a grandmaster or solo a dungeon, and that’s okay, too. You need to invest the time to get better at PvP or honestly just stop expecting to go flawless. Play to get to 50 round wins, and then do something else. Or heck, pay for a carry if you want to. However, stop whining at Bungie because you aren’t good enough to compete something in the game. Imagine doing this in real life: “Hey, I pay for a ticket to my pro sports team’s games, so I should be able to suit up and play!” It’s honestly ridiculous. I don’t know where this entitled attitude comes from I. This community, but God, does it suck. Just because you buy the game, doesn’t mean you should be handed end game stuff.

2 Replies"Not interested in LFG" then it's a YOU issue. You have the means and decide not to use them, your problem, get lost.

Edited by Tippstir91: 6/13/2023 2:20:30 PMComp pvp isn’t targeted for solo players, it’s a team based/coordination based activity. It will be easier with a team you get to know and play with consistently. Solo players griping about comp pvp games just seems like children screaming the world isn’t fair to me. It’s the endgame for pvp, but solo players consistently complain it/the loot isn’t as accessible to them. You need to play with a team, plain and simple. Unless you can carry yourself and 2 others without coordinating, it’s always gonna be this way unless you become an insanely good pvp player.

4 RepliesDont like it, dont play it. Otherwise keep playing it and getting -blam!- e d

5 RepliesMatchmaking is terrible. Example of one of my last 6v6 matches below. Matchmaking for 10 solo players along with one team of two that was put in my team. Combat Efficiency scores below. Opposition Player1 2.0 Player2 2.8 Player3 7.0 Player4 2.13 Player5 2.4 Player6 2.5 My Team Player1 0.69 Player2 0.8 Player3 0.67 Me 2.67 Player5 1.33 Player6 0.5

5 RepliesEdited by DHawk12: 6/12/2023 2:35:20 AMMatchmaking almost strictly enforces that 4-6 stacks play against other 4-6 stacks but that enforcement doesn’t apply exist for duos/trios for some reason. And in 3-man pvp modes, sweats that are too scared to play against sweaty trios will instead play strictly as a duo. Solution to this problem: -Ban duo queueing in 3v3 modes -Ban 5 stack queuing in 6v6 modes -Strictly enforce that both teams have equally sized fireteams (after extended queue, smaller fireteams can fill such as 2 duos instead of another 4 stack) *This is a superior system compared to freelance or how it currently is, for 6v6 at least. *Practice pool in trials and sbmm in control/ib also needs to go

4 RepliesIn pvp solo players do suffer, sweat teams don't want freelance because they dontvwant to keep facing people just as good as them

Edited by A_mo: 6/13/2023 2:28:16 AMI stopped playing (temporarily) around when ftmm came out but there does seem to be quite a few complaints about it in multiple modes. What's hard to tell is if it's roughly the same if not better for most solos or if it's actually worse. There's really a chance that it doesn't have to be all that much different and it could be better. A more solo PvE? That would be a huuuuge change. Could possibly be for the better though. A lot of casual players are solo.

Edited by Adam_Clockwork: 6/12/2023 10:35:04 PMFor someone like me who stick to being Solo for so long till I found a clan during Forsaken time when the game was free to all I got to learn a lot as a player who didn't have much but used what he got, and in the end I had possibly a better understanding for being a solo player then with teammates but being with teammates also helped me understand the player base as a whole. Before the AI update I could possibly solo all dungeons by myself, and I was happy to do so even after years of tries before hand it made me to become a better players something I think some players missed on. PvP isn't great but you get to understand your role or how you can help your teammates in certain situations as long you know how you play compare to how the person your up against plays. After a while, and after so many updates the solo players who could solo stuff easily are now given a challenge as they asked for but the people who were just starting to understand more of being a solo player got shafted majorly this also includes PvP too with its changes too. In short this game basically died out not by just Bungie's hands but also the player base too after it was open to a lot of people around the world. The player base couldn't seem to agree with anything having Bungie to go for everything they can to fix it which results what we have now its sad seeing how I a solo player got to experience this, and basically couldn't do anything because no one will ever agree with me I will miss this game for what it was even if it wasn't perfect it was still great in its own ways.

It really depends on what you’re playing. Trials matchmaking is busted from my experience. This week compared to the first is night and day. I’m facing top 3% on trials report this weekend and I haven’t gone flawless yet this weekend. There is no practice pool in my experience it’s all bs.
-
I’m solo and it has been pretty balanced, much better than it used to be. I rarely and I mean rarely go up against a 5 or 6 stack anymore.

Or you could just ........
git gud
