Hi, I'm the author of this post that has been linked around recently

I've found a potential fix (shoutout to SlenderBeans). This may work for you if you have connected any new audio devices, have a more complex audio setup such as using a usb interface, or if you have connected a device capable of audio including a new monitor or a vr headset. I want to also mention that often on updating Nvidia drivers and windows updates, disabled audio devices can be reset to enabled and cause havoc, this has happened to me unrelated to destiny before and wanted to mention in case this was a root cause for me
Here's the fix that worked for me:
- Open windows > settings > App Volume and Device Preferences
- Make sure steam is set to Default
- Launch Destiny
- Navigate back to your App volume and device preferences
- Set Destiny to Default
- Force quit Destiny via task manager
- (I deleted my cvars.xml here, this may or may not be required)
If that didn't work for you @әуәѕ who has been in this situation for a long while also found that they had to clear their Nvidia shader cache. This didn't work for me, but if you have exhausted all other options try this as well

holy -blam!- it worked. In audio settings, one of the two audio options (output, input) was completely blank, I set to default and it works!
