This Tiger engine Bungie is using is older than God. It's literally a modified engine from the late 90's from their blam! engine they used for Halo. Very short sighted considering Bungie wanted this game to go on and be updated indefinitely. Without Activision, we'd all still be playing D1. Could you imagine?
It might be sore at first, but not just the engine is a problem, there's the servers and the numerous exotic armors and weapons that are useless that would be better off removed from the game. Starting fresh with all new locations, new crucible maps, activities and missions, and new armor and weapon designs. Everything is new and exciting and better built and designed. More to mention, stable.
Bungie spoke recently about needing to be fast as a dev for live service games.. there's no better engine for that than UE5. There's no better option for any aspect of gaming. 343 and CDPR are both entirely switching to UE5, it's time Bungie faces reality and does the same.

Edited by The Hermit IX: 2/1/2023 4:32:17 PMNot happening any time in the next couple of years if at all. They’re invested with D2 and have repeatedly stated they have no plans of a D3. We have LF dropping in weeks and that will last a year. After LF we have FS and that will last another year. So that’s the bare minimum of 2 years away. I think people are confused with how far away the time lines and roadmaps actually are. Most of what we will play for the upcoming year is done and they’re already moving into FS. They can’t flip a switch and walk away from what’s already on the table. Also the new games they’re developing are using the same engine as D2 so D3 wouldn’t be part of a new engine but instead would be on what is currently used and undoubtedly be plagued with exact technical issues D2 has.

Edited by High Charity: 2/1/2023 4:22:54 PMThere are two AAA games that use a variation of the -blam!- engine. Both of those games are plagued with unique issues that other games aren't having Do the math
