Game locking up and crashing regularly

For the past couple of weeks, Destiny 2 has been locking up on me mid game and either crashing to Desktop or i need to close down D2 via task manager. when it crashes to Desktop I get a message about it detecting a crash or loss of graphics device, the windows log details that the driver nvlddmkm stopped working. If memory serves this was an issue a couple months back and i had to roll back to an earlier version of the Nvidia drivers, assuming thats the case now, what is the latest version of the drivers i can use to prevent crashing? Currently on Game Ready drivers 528.02

  • And crashed again, this time in a destination, rest of PC keeps going, GPU and CPU not under an especially high load and the only thing in the event viewer is that fact i had to use task manager to close the game which again highlights it is only the game getting affected by this

  • Try disabling fullscreen optimization and high dpi scaling, that worked for me. Why its freezing, i dont know, i managed to find out that the game after loading for whatever reason just starts using 100% of you ram at random. D2 uses so much of it infact that your pc’s apps restart XD. It stopped after i disabled fullscreen optimizations and high dpi scaling for whatever reason. The game still crashes if i tab out on native fullscreen, so play with Windowed fullscreen to avoid this too. Lets hope they get to fixing this soon.

    • This exact same issue I have with 2 GPUs, with 3080 and with new 4070 Ti, exact same issue freeze after about 2 to 4 hours playing, is random but always same freeze and crash. And I have in windows event viewer this nvlddmkm id 0, /device /video3 gpuid: 100 than nvlddmkm has stopped working and recovered. Always those errors but only happens in Destiny 2, I had playing for about 9 hours others games and everything working smooth.

    • So Nvidia have released updated drivers and the game is still crashing in the same manner so has nothing to do with the recent downtime and hotfix problems

    • Hi there! Please follow the steps outlined below to provide an accurate system report. Please do not follow these steps while Destiny 2 is running. 1. Restart your machine. 2. When you log in, please click on the Windows icon, then type dxdiag. If typed correctly, only one command should appear. Please click it. (If you need to enter the credentials of an administrator of the PC, please do so). 3. Allow the tool to run. A green bar should progress on the bottom portion of the window. If you receive any dialogue boxes as it progresses, please address them accordingly. 4. Once the tool is completed, please click on the "Save All Information" button. Save the resulting text file in an easy to find location, such as your Desktop. Then, close the tool. 5. Open the text file you just created and copy all of text to your clipboard by selecting all of it (Ctrl+A) and copying it (Ctrl +C OR rightclick and click Copy). Then, close the file. 6. Go to pastebin.com 7. In the text box below, paste all of the text in the box. 8. If you would like to make your system specs hidden, you can change the Paste Exposure to Unlisted. This will hide it from the Public section of the site but still allow people to view your Paste. Then, click the Create New Paste button. 9. Copy the resulting URL and reply back to this comment with the URL.
