Other exotic rocket launchers are kinda terrible ngl

Now, while everyone is arguing over the state of PvP, because I’m not much of a PvP player myself, and because I would like to kick the dead horse that is the old gjally nerf, I’d like to bring up how bad the other exotic rl’s are and why they need a buff. Firstly, I know a team of nicely rolled legendary rocket launchers and a gjally can outperform a team of gjallys or any other exotic launcher. This is for team based content. And if you have a good roll. Secondly, yes I liked using gjally. A lot. Sure I have fun using lfr’s and weapons like whisper or xeno. But gjally, oh man. There were plenty of other dps options that outclassed it in solo content, but it just felt so good and easy to use. But this isn’t simply a rant where I cry about gjally’s nerf because I liked it. So why did I like gjally? Apart from it’s ease of use, there weren’t any exotic rl’s that scratched that itch. When I think of an exotic, I think of a weapon that has a unique feel to it. Something more powerful than a legendary that makes it worth getting. But the thing with every other exotic rocket launcher… they’re either not optimal to use, or just aren’t that fun. I’m going to go over a few exotic rocket launchers (I may miss a few) and state why I don’t use them over gjally- 1.Eyes of tomorrow- when I first got eyes of tomorrow, I genuinely had fun with it. Until I started using it more often for dps which was when I realised that it wasn’t that great. Even after the buff. Animation was too long, and it took too much time to fire. 2. Wardcliff coil- this exotic went 6 feet under in PvE and I only tried using a few times against bosses after which I gave up 3. Deathbringer- this is another rl I want to love. Especially with the cata, but it isn’t optimal to use because you get more consistent damage with just about any other heavy or rl if the boss moves. A little too much setup 4.two tailed fox- honestly this one is the closest to gjally in terms of damage, but as with every rl on this list, why use it when you have a good roll of a legendary rl Now that I’ve stated all this, it seems pretty obvious that gjally got nerfed. And it is understandable why they did that. But this is honestly what I’m tired of when it comes to bungie’s approach to buffs and nerfs. Rather than nerfing the dominant meta weapon, why don’t you buff the other competing weapons to actually rise up and be another viable option hmm? Now it’s not like gjally is extremely bad, but it’s just that there’s so many better options. And I’d finally like to conclude this post by saying, buff the other exotic rl’s. And stop making pointless nerfs based on usage rates of exotics. Buff underused ones. Thank you for reading my post. I would like to hear other’s thoughts on this too.

  • Deathbringer is actually favorite rocket in D2, even over Ghorn, I just wish it did more boss Damage, legendary rockets like bump in the night outclass it I mean we actually turned a Hive Deathsinger into a weapon, should be op in PvE

    • Eyes is a Jack of all trades that’s pretty decent at everything and has good burst/champ busting and Deathbringer is a god tier weapon in any place that doesn’t have a super low ceiling. The others suck, yeah.

      • I’d like to see a rocket with similar functionality to parasite and grand overture. Both have high burst DPS and requirements for getting the stacks up. Parasite has become my new favourite exotic.

        • I did enjoy Gally before the nerf, and it felt truly exotic. But understandably, if it becomes too good, then it gets retweaked in future updates. I can't say much on raiding as I rarely if ever do, but rocket launchers could be improved a bit in terms of damage imo, but if they do, then it needs testing, otherwise it would be a repeat similar the exotic solar trace rifle(can't remember name) and the "laser tag" it caused in curse of osiris crucible...

        • Some content creators have reported that Bump In The Night may become meta next season. You might consider obtaining at least one in advance. I have 4 of them in the vault, including one that I crafted quite a while ago. It has Chill Clip, Tracking, and 94 velocity.

          • Pretty sure Bungie has outlined why they don't just buff everything else to compete with outliers. Namely, Powercreep. In Gjallarhorn's case, it's more of a support weapon than anything else, since you have one Gjally user buffing the legendary rockets of nearby allies. As a player that doesn't raid, I can't really comment on the importance or rather, the loss of importance for each exotic RL as a DPS powerhouse. What I can say is that when I did use RL heavily, Deathbringer was easily my favorite just for the fun factor, and it was even a decent Gambit Invasion weapon... until Eyes of Tomorrow and Gjallarhorn came along. I could care less about optimal gear and meta. If you're not trying to sweat your cabals off in PvE or PvP, it doesn't matter. Just use what you like.

          • What I want to know is... How much longer do I have to wait before a gjally will drop for me? It's been a year right. Can sqyidface sell it yet?

          • Keep in mind most rockets are meant for burst damage. Eye with adaptive Ordinance active, I believe deals the highest burst damage for a single rocket. Gjallagherhorn is only good because it holds 2 rockets in the mag. 2 tails has a cool trick. It's void rocket synergizes with some void fragments, including the one which reloads when you suppress a target. So you basically get 2 rockets on the 1st mag. Death bringer is technically the highest dps RL. With a volatile rounds build, the 16% damage buff helps with its consistency. Wardcliff definitely needs help. It's not good for dps, buf not good for add clear. They are leaning add clear but it's ammo reserves and rocket tracking are too weak. If the buff the reserves to 9, improved pve tracking, and added chain reaction, it could be amazing. Truth can have very high burst damage for hunters with various dodge exotics. But it's total damage sucks since it deal 15% less damage per rocket.

          • I would suggest to you(if you are using a hunter in the activity) to try the gyrfalcons exotic for void, that damage boost after coming out of invis is quite good, with the right void rocket is hits hard.

          • I'd just be happy if Two Tailed got a catalyst that just prolonged the burns and suppression. That's it. I'm not worried about a third arc rocket unless it was a modified heavier voltshot. I couldn't care less about a stasis rocket either. Just make the effects of the rockets last longer.

The issue that all the other rockets have is that they're so similar. Gjallarhorn - Big explosion, tracks, buff others' rockets Truth - Big explosion, no impact damage, tracks very strongly 2tailed Fox - Two medium explosions, tracks, burns and suppreses (No Scorch though) Wardcliff - The realization that a Jericho Missile is an awesome concept, tracks, only does big numbers on non-bosses Eyes of Tomorrow, six medium explosions, needs to kill ads to maximize damage, tracks Deathbringer - Just Wardcliff but closer to the Dark of the Moon missile that crashed the Ark, tracks (very weird movie) In conclusion, Gjallarhorn literally does what 3 other exotic rockets do not only better, but looks cooler on top of that. Thank you for attending my TED talk. Next week: why Machine Guns should have all ammo in the mag, like swords.
