Warlock: Empowering Rift Should Be Changed

Don't you think so?! I mean the buff is only 15% and I would say that 80% of the player-base uses Healing Rift anyway. I'd say a good/fun replacement can be: - Ability Rift (Now increases the speed at which players abilities recharge. This does NOT include Super abilities) - Supreme Rift (This healing rift is 30% bigger and heals for 30% more BUT only lasts 7 seconds) - Hidden Rift (This rift is 30% bigger and makes Gaurdian's who stand in it invisible) - Elementals Rift (This rift allows weapons to change elements based on the type: *Kinetic weapons change elements based on the subclass equipped. *Energy weapons now adopt all 4 elements at once. -Fired Rift (Increases the rate if fire for all weapons equipped by 30%) -Charges Rift (Based on the subclass chosen, this rift will add effects to your weapons while standing in it. For instance: [b]Solar[/b] Weapons will burn targets. Burning targets ignite on death. [b]Stasis[/b] Weapons slow targets. Enough stacks will freeze the target. What do you'll think?? No doubt several rift exotics would need to be modified but I don't think it would break the game.

  • I’d like to see the animation become faster and the ability to leave the rift and have it become an over shield until you stop and if it’s not timed out it drops again.

  • I think those all sound more interesting than than the current empowering variant. Rifts have a similar problem Well of Radiance does. Either the content is so easy you don’t need it at all, or the difficulty is high enough you’d easily be killed standing in one place without being healed. This is where child of the old gods on an empowering rift fails. It cannot and will not heal you enough to make the damage boost of an empowering rift as good or better than getting more ability energy while being able to take more damage. The long cool down has always kept rift more situational, until Child of the old gods and arc soul in 3.0. I bet less people are using Phoenix Dive now that it has the same cool down as a healing rift. If empowering got a cool down reduction to 60 seconds, that would be its greatest draw, like how rally barricade usage on Titan is mostly because of its -20% cooldown compared to Towering Barricade. I think Bungie is afraid of buffing empowering rift and risk it becoming oppressive in PvP. Which is why no exotic has saved empowering rifts either. Another good idea Bungie reigned to the point it’s almost useless outside of meme cases. Anyways, TLDR; I like your suggestions as they’d make builds more interesting and might be worth choosing over just healing in more gameplay situations.

      • I want a rift that just follows you around in an AoE around my Warlock I want a class ability that lets me teleport (not blink) short distances I want a class ability that sends out a fake version of my Warlock in the direction I was moving (similar to a that one character in Valorant) I want a class ability that turns my rift into a trap, like a Fallen arc web grenade that blinds and slows enemies. I want a class ability that can instantly revive dead teammates. I want a rift that can be consumed to give me temporary damage resistance from all damage. There’s so many different class abilities that can be given to Warlocks that can replace the standard 2 rifts

          The elemental rift would decimate all classes in PvE and designate warlocks as the only class to do grandmasters on. Dealing 4 types of damages would stretch the spaghetti code in here so horrifically, the game would start crashing and deleting characters. Not to mention the free osmosis you’d get with weapons that shouldn’t get it. Sweet business would be the best weapon ever due to large mag and dealing elemental damage, and let’s not even try to do the math on how Gjally would get nerfed for skipping content. The supreme rift could be interesting, but I’m wary of increasing the size by anything above 10%. The invis rift is a monstrosity. If the rift were to follow traditional mechanics with invis, you’d get either [i][u]complete[/u][/i] invisibility with shooting as well or you’d be annoyed that you have to re-enter the well for invis after a shot. Either it would be broken and you can shoot while invis for as long as the rift is up, or it’d be useless because you only get the effect once until you shoot. If you added the effect of always going invis while in the rift, we’d have more Invis warlocks camping. The ability rift seems to be a fair shot, but warlocks already have many builds based around always having their abilities. They’re known for managing to throw more grenades on most subclasses and they used to be king of grenades outside of striker titan. Granted this changed with 3.0, but I’d be interested to see an ability rift for those who dislike the class ability, just don’t give them something like thruster, especially with how Phoenix Dive is compared to other dives. The rate of fire one would more than likely get nerfed hard due to melting too many bosses in one phase unfortunately, but it’s a good idea.

            • Half of these ideas are a bit too hot (5* elements at once lmao-dont forget strand is coming, 30% rate of fire, 30% more healing) and "several rift exotics would need to be modified" is certainly a pretty big deal lol. I think that's a lot to ask for one ability change but good luck to you.

No doubt several rift exotics would need to be modified but I don't think it would break the game.[/quote] Some of it is a good start to a concept, but some things such as the elemental rifts giving energy weapons all elements? A bit too much, and with strand coming, it would just be coding errors after coding errors with that one rift alone. Sure bungie could add more rifts to the warlock, but some of the ideas you've stated here could be reworked as an exotic instead, or are technically in the game, example, "kinetics change element to that of subclass" just sounds like osmosis with different steps to me. I'm not saying I hate the idea, there could be larger rifts with shorter times, but I reckon it would need testing first, since some online folks tend to find "loops". For example, I remember a hunter build where you could essentially have unlimited invisibility and it was before subclass 3.0, so I think it was a way to basically get unlimited Truesight too if I remember correctly.

                • not bad ideas, i'm all for new types of rifts, but i'd also take some movement options too lol. warlock has only had icarus dash for too long, let us use dark blink and ionic blink outside of supers, even as a class ability replacement lol.

                  • Agree some changes need to happen with rift. Titan walls and dodge has had so much attention and they haven't done anything with the rift for so long.
