Those PvP streamers who are complaining about SBMM are whining because with it, they can't jump into a quick play map and easily own it and then post videos about how dominant they are against players, like me, who are far less skilled at PvP. I've seen many videos where they claim that's not the case. That's BS. Awhile back I saw one of these PvP gods showing a pre SBMM quick play match where he went something like 50-0 and got some super rare medal for it. Would he have been able to do that if the players he was up against were at or near his same level? Not an efffin chance. There was another vid from a PvP god showing his first match with Vex Mythoclast where he shredded the opposing team and got nearly 50 kills. Would he have been able to do that against players at or near his skill level? Not an effin chance. No effin way.
For players like that, connection base matchmaking is a little like me dropping down to the Cosmodrome to farm kills to get a deepsight weapon done. Practically everything is a one shot kill. That's what the PvP god streamers want from quickplay. They want to own the map against far less skilled players than they are. They don't want to work for their kills. They just want to dominate with ease.
When SBMM was changed to connection based MM, half the matches were mercied and there was almost always one or two players who were way better than everyone else who would routinely finish with 40+ kills. Everyone else on the map was just cannon fodder. That may be great for that one guy, but hardly fun for everyone else.
SBMM has its problems, sure. Creating Crucible is like herding cats, an always chaotic work in progress. But even with SBMM's problems, it's working and I'm playing Crucible again and I can hold my own with the other players on it who are at or near my skill level. Matches are finishing closer. They're not being mercied anywhere near as often. I'm having fun in Crucible again. I hated the connection MM Crucible where all I was was cannon fodder for PvP junkies.
Streamers speak with much louder voices than we do. Their whines get noticed by the devs more than the average players. They have more influence. This whining about SBMM from streamers is likely being heard by you, Bungie.
You get rid of it, I'll be done with Crucible again. I'm not at all interested in being a bullet sponge for some streamer who wants to own every quick play map and make videos about how effing wonderful they are.
And fine, troll me if ya want with some insipid "git gud" BS. I don't give a rat's a__.

SBMM should not be in a casual 6v6. I should not have to be forced to use meta weapons and armor when I want to use sweet business and necrotic grips for sh!ts and giggles in pvp. Stop whining and just get better. It’s not funny anymore.

2 RepliesIf SBMM is so good how come you barely play?
-
2 RepliesAbout 79% of the active destiny playerbase has a negative kd. Even with cbmm, your games are highly likely to be the same with the occasional good player. Why do the top percenters of the game have to suffer with constant lag and long -blam!- queue times in this shitty peer 2 peer system? Just for the 3 Game Gary's to have easier matches? Give me a break
-
Welp, this isn't a troll, but you really need to get better. SBMM is objectively worse for the veteran community, and it's not worth it to spit in their face for the sake of those worse at the game. Just get better.
-
At least it's funny when the bad players who think they are now somewhat decent go into trials
-
1 ReplyFunny thing is you’ll find most the pro sbmm folks are still in the crucible for the minimal 3 matches for the pinny and that’s it just like when it was CBMM. Cus they never cared for pvp anyway but Love being the loudest voices in here
-
I find this completely amusing and utterly unnecessary. Destiny the game had a good run but now it’s time to move on and let this game go already.
-
Or better yet, if there's sbmm there shouldn't be quitter penalites, if there's quitter penalties there shouldn't be sbmm
-
I personally disagree, I'm not a streamer but a high tier player my queues are long just for me to get laggy matches because the matchmaker takes anyone in the same bracket without an idea about where in the world they are i want to have fun same as you so why doesn't bungie put a matchmaking preference so you can chose what you use sbmm or cbmm oh wait we know the reason not enough people play pvp for this to be good due to a stale meta, ability spam and sbmm making games laggy for anyone who I above average
-
I'd be fine with sbmm if which ever body part of Mara Sov i happen to face doesnt teleport 20 times and only needs two bullets with an auto rifle to kill me.

3 RepliesI enjoy playing PvP, not a top level player or main. I think some level of SBMM should be implemented to avoid top players from playing bottom players, but about 80% of the playerbase should matchmake purely on connection. Lately, the connection has been horrible, I couldnt even play IB beyond the pinnacle games because it was just so bad. I know that there are server issues at Bungie, but its time for them to stop treating this game like a Beta and try this, try that, and just polish what works well for the majority. Low tier players new to the game, should be isolated from the upper players, but just put everyone else together with decent lobby balancing. Implementing SBMM to please the lowest level player who plays 3 games a week for a pinnacle hurts everyone elses connection. If I play really strong players, it gives me the chance to try to develop strategy which works to improve my play. Playing only against my tier of players, my bad strategy is supported by players who dont expose my flaws.

Is bungo listening at all?

1 ReplyI am absolutely laughing my -blam!- off, this dude just wrote an entire essay and SBMM isn’t even in the game anymore.

Yeah because it’s totally normal for me sitting at a 1.14 overall to be fighting 2.0 plus players consistently. Make it make sense
-
Can we just get tight SBMM at the very bottom of the skill gap and progressively loosen it as people's k/d and win rates increase?
-
Not enough people even play destiny pvp anymore to have sbmm, it needs to and probably will eventually go again
-
I’m not amazing and have to disagree SBMM doesn’t work correctly I face players all the time way above my k/d. It needs to be removed
-
If SBMM actually worked as intended, I'd agree. But why do I still see games where my team going all negative and I barely breach 1.5 while the enemy team is popping 3.0+?. That's something I'd expect from CBMM, but now the actual competitive playlists are less of a headache than a supposedly "casual" one.

1 ReplyUnfortunately Those Streamers are the only ones Bungie seems to listen too so they will probably get their will again. Still cant understand why Destiny players are watching subscribing to them all they to is get Bungie to do what the majority of players don’t want. Stop watching they streams and cut off their subscription numbers.

5 RepliesAm seeing players do instant 180s and also the power slide left and right without sprinting.. It’s just pc movement 👍 funny thing is am on xbox 😬

1 ReplyI play on console, and I was talking to my clan mates about PVP. They said that players on PC have less recoil on their weapons compared to console players. How true this is, I'm not entirely sure!

3 RepliesEdited by Auronio: 1/13/2023 7:48:54 AMTrue Vanguard is for obvious reason bashing down on SBMM. But also mentioning some valid points like lack of new maps, hidden kill counts, games not showing up in the game history etc.. I hope/expect Bungie not following assumed numbers but their own data they for sure have and do analyze. And take their own conclusions. Whether TV's purported bad connections for everyone, bad results and so forth are true or not. When I hear TV claiming back with CBMM even low skilled players were farming 18+ kills I can only laugh loud. Just a plain lie and him being a devious liar. Edit Jan 13th: I thought I should substantiate my harsh verdict on TV being a liar (someone lying is a liar) by evidence. Easy to do. Just look at his older videos numerous are around of course - the pre-current-SBMM phase all of us average/low skilled players were suffering from. One of many examples: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB8Oi3ZK9Gc Go to minute 10:21 showing match results. Compare this to his statement from the pleaded argument in the so called Crucible Crisis video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQp_c63zJsU&t=217s and listen to minute 3:20 following claiming low skilled players had 18, 20 and even up to 30 kills in a lobby. Yeah, I hear you. I can well recall theses times. Being the last in the lobby with sometimes no kills at all, lucky when I hit half a dozen. Being stomped on in every single game. With current Quickplay SBMM I experience same connection quality like before, I can actually score 10-20 kills and I often land in the middle field of the lobby, rarely at the top (never happened with CBMM, simply impossible). Currently PvP is - fun! Keep the improvements, Bungie!

SBMM doesn’t work in this game, and it shows. CBMM being the main priority in PvP would benefit everyone overtime, anyone that played IB this weekend with a average KD knows how sweaty a match was, more sweaty than Trials. I reset my rank twice, I’ve never faced so many laggy players in my 5+ years of playing this game. I’ve never had connection problems, and if I do it’s maybe twice a year in PvP. That’s how you know it’s bad, hit registration is dog-Blam!- also. If you actually play PvP, like you actually have a decent KD and play PvP frequently you would choose CBMM over SBMM every time in this game.

13 RepliesTotally agree, the first Iron Banner this season was the best experience I ever had in PvP, it was so much fun because I - as a pretty mediocre PvP player - had an impact nd was not only a victim. SBMM works, it will never be perfect, but what a fantastic improvement to PvP! Keep it going Bungie!
