Let's simulate a dps phase. Keep in mind, this is math. You cannot argue with math.
Here is the source my numbers will come from.

I will compare chaos reach + geomags + thunderous retort to thunder crash + falling star + thunderous retort because without thunderous retort the numbers are too similar to compute a value that shows the gap between the supers.
Let's start out by finding the experimental DPS of chaos reach.
Chaos reach deals 548,000 damage over 8 seconds
DPS = 548,000 / 8 = 68500 damage per second
Now let's find the experimental damage of thundercrash
Chaos reach deals 517,000 damage and the animation takes 3-4 seconds for this comparison I will use 4 seconds to simulate a slightly longer flight.
DPS = 517000/4 = 129,250 damage per second
In a practical setting, thundercrash deals 1.88x the DPS of chaos reach.
And chaos reach deals 1.05x the damage of thundercrash.
This is fun, let's keep going
A blade barrage with star eater and the aspect deals 457,000.
With the nerf you will throw 5/6 of the knives you do now so I will adjust that number to 380,800 damage
Blade barrage has a 2 second animation.
DPS = 380,833/2 = 190,416 damage per second
I will not be using thunderous retort for this calculation since it is leaving soon and allows for a better comparison between the supers and their exotics
Chaos reach deals 407,000 damage over 8 seconds
407,000/8 = 50,875 damage per second
In a practical setting blade barrage deals 3.74x the DPS of chaos reach.
Chaos reach deals 1.06x the damage of blade barrage.
This is a problem because it does not reward the time commitment of using chaos reach.
You deal a little more damage than an instant super, but must commit significantly more time to using your super, which means you have less time to use heavy weapons.
I cannot make the problem with chaos reach any more clear. The change chaos reach got does not address the problem with it. Chaos reach needs a damage buff to compete.

The change clearly shows Bungie aren’t intending it to be a single target dps super. Chaos reach doesn’t require crits and can kill multiple targets as well as damage a single targets. It can also be obtained very quickly with geo mags to be used multiple times in a GM etc. It should probably be compared to something like golden gun without celestial or even 6 shooter when you’re doing your little dps comparison.
