You have mentioned the above as an issue you are looking to help us with.
Instead of the convoluted solution you are suggesting, which doesn't really address the root problem, why don't you just remove the cap on holding materials for us?
We can then delete them immediately or after levelling them without any worry.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I just delete them 🤷♂️ I can earn more later if I need.

…an issue you are looking to help us with....
That’s what they want everyone to believe. Has anyone else noticed that in the past couple of TWABs specifically, they’re trying harder to make it seem like they are working harder to respect our time? In reality, and make no mistake, when it comes to the economy, their main objective is to create and increase the grind. It’s that simple and we’ve seen it over and over, and this is another example. But yet they pitch it like they’re doing us a favor.

2 RepliesThe material cap is to slow us down. If they remove the cap, they will slow us down another way. It's fine as is.

2 RepliesRed borders for materials drop like rain in the Amazon, red borders for patterns drop like rain in the desert for many. That's the real problem, too many material items not enough crafting items. This 'solution' on its own will fix nothing.

8 RepliesJust spring cleaned my vault from 590 to approx 250. There were red borders disappearing faster than you can say “need more vault space”.

Psst, it’s about addiction

Nah, they don't want us to hoard anything. They want to make us constantly play. That's the entire purpose of material caps. They want you to HAVE to play when THEY want not when you want.

Edited by Athena: 11/1/2022 9:20:33 PMI would much rather earn the materials by just playing the game and levelling up crafted weapons than have to use weapons I don’t want to use. Edit: AND have no cap

1 ReplyDo you not read twabs?

I simply just don't have this issue. In fact, I'm flabbergasted by the idea people have this many deep sights. I don't have anywhere near all the frames completed, & I don't get enough materials to fully craft the frames I do have after leveling them to 16. Last season I spent all of my spoils of conquest ( inventory & 3 postmasters full) just to buy deepsigth weapons for the materials. Deepsight drops & material access is so rare to my account that it blows me away that Bungie thinks that deep sights have too high of a drop rate.

4 RepliesSo are you shaping each pattern you unlock and then reshaping once it gets to level 16/20ish? I've found myself always needing more materials and have never maxed out. Also after February 28 any red border that that isn't a shapeable weapon will lose its red border. So I would start using those materials and completing those red borders because if not you're going to lose them.
