I don't understand why people complain about the one off crazy game modes. Stuff like this, mayhem, and momentum control are there for a fun change of pace, not for competitive balancing. If you want balanced (and I'm using the term very liberally because D2 is never actually really balanced) go play glory or control.

Nah, that is basically the Cranked Game mode from COD, the one I experienced currently (COD Mobile) once you kill a player, you go fast for a time, that ticks to 0 seconds and you blow up. They made the same thing except the cranked buff gives you less time between abilities.

Bungie can't just implement something correctly and take the win. Every -blam!- time they have to twist and contort things so that it has their special fail sauce all over it and then try to limp the product towards a state of barely being adequate.

5 RepliesWhat I don’t understand about people who get mad over pvp is playing against good people is the only way bad players are going to get better. Wanting bungie to create some magical game mode where everyone can win and think they aren’t trash is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I’m any multiplayer game for someone to win someone else has to loose. If people took loosing as experience to help them win further down the line instead of blaming loosing on bungie they might not be trash forever. It’s hilarious to watch but I’m starting to think destiny is filled with people who go to local kindergartens to win fist fights.

Eh, it just sounds the exact opposite of the experience they said they’re striving for, a little while back. They said they aimed to focus more on gunplay, and this just sounds like mayhem. I hate abilities, but will try to keep an open mind going in.

1 ReplyIt’s almost a copy/paste of “Cranked” from Call of Duty. Not to say that’s a bad thing, but it was never my favorite mode. Interesting to see how it will play out in the Destiny sandbox.

2 RepliesSounds like yet another way to make the better players feel warm and fuzzy while the not-so-good players get pub stomped in, just as you put it, a snowballing towards mercy match. I mean I get it, I think, they're trying to make the actual objective just killing without being as flat as clash. But unless their loose SBMM system is really working to keep the playing field even, it's not going to be pretty.

I think the idea is that the timer is supposed to pressure you into making mistakes, bad pushes ego challenge etc. I’ll bet anything they decrease the timer after labs when they see what talented players can do with 15 seconds. the game mode sounds fun to me tbh.

Edited by ZeroEmerald: 8/5/2022 8:04:45 PMEven if the fully buffed player doesn't get a kill and blows up, they still gave their team 15 seconds of ability regen that can allow them to get their 5 kills and become charged themselves to keep the loop up. What if 4+ players on one team are all up? Yeah, downing them nets your team more points, but the snowballing will happen, even in freelance. When they said "You've been asking for Clash in Iron Banner, so we started from there" it should have also ended there too. Clash with maybe a higher score limit would've been fine with me. i'm not looking forward to seeing what triumphs they put up for the title/gilding, because if there's anything like "Become primed 200 times" (i.e. get 200 5-kill streaks) or "Stay primed for 60 seconds without dying" (i.e. get 20 kills in one life or whatever it is to extend the timer that much) then i'm definitely out.

If you die three times without an assist or kill…then you become “empowered” (or whatever they’re calling it). This would encourage and help the newbies or weak links to get kills and balance them out with the Flawless players we get matched with.

1 ReplyMaybe on paper. In reality, people get nervous when they're forced to be aggressive (or explode). Not to mention they'll be an HVT for the enemy team, location highlighted and all. I think with proper matchmaking this game mode could be more of a fast-paced back and forth tug of war. Improper matchmaking or 6 stacks are gonna make it incredibly one-sided for sure though.

Possibly. But the eruptions could be happening on both teams at the same time and with more than one player on each team at the same time. If only one team could get the benefit at a time, I could see it steam rolling into a Mercy real quick. If there’s no SBMM yet it will probably happen as much as it does IB Control too.

I feel like 15 seconds is too short. CoD’s “cranked” gamemode (which bungie just straight ripped off) gave you 30 seconds and with a much faster TTK there was still times you couldn’t confirm the kill. Some of the maps are decently sized, and even me being a hyper aggro player can’t make it across certain maps in 15 seconds even while titan skating and running movement speed increasing exotics. I feel like playing is going to be a frustrating circle of get a few kills then fizzle because the spawns flipped or people choose to not engage due to the wallhacks. I think increasing the timer to 30 seconds could eliminate some of this, but ultimately after snagging the iron lord title I’ve kinda checked out of PvP, even for pinnacles until the next large PVE drop.
