Why give a gun a buff just to nerf it a season later because of its usage?

JUST MAKE MORE WEAPONS COMPETE, after 8 years we know that legendaries won't be as powerful as exotics there's a reason for it. But say a legendary linear fusion that had Adaptive (after you give it a buff) comes into picture what's the chance people like that and use it more, you know now making COMPETITION BETWEEN LEGDENDARY AND EXOTICS. Give us a MMO bungie Please. And there are so many more examples this community has, I love arby I use it alot but personally if there was another gun that did almost the same thing didn't take my exotic slot I would love that because it would allow me to use other things I love. Please give us a MMO

  • They do it to armor too. Everyone complained about renewal grasps which means items will have to be nerfed for the other subclasses. They really need to terminate employment of whomever is in charge of testing and they need or need to fix their change management systems.

    • Because Bungie needs exotic heavies to be the most powerful weapons in the game, because that's how they extend the relevancy of raids.

      • It’s the ever persistent battle with power creep. If a weapon is so good nothing else competes they have two options. Make things more powerful, or nerf the outlier. If they make things more powerful then for anything new to stand out it has to be even MORE powerful. But if they nerf instead they can have something else launch a bit stronger and it not necessarily be too powerful. But they don’t have to keep upping the power.

          Shield destroyer as well as antibarrier, with good dps. They’re making it more utility based, not the perfect package. Should be trade offs to weapons, I see no problem.

          • So you can keep playing the stupid game and constantly chase the new meta. It’s a never ending loop……. Here we have something nice for you………..not anymore………but this one is nice now. Before you know it your racking up 1000 hours for the -blam!- that they take away that took your grind to add new -blam!- to grind for

          • Bungies way of controlling what players use. Just like the artifact. I don’t agree with this. Get a new favorite weapon and you can’t use it in hard content because of champion mods. The cycle will continue sadly as Bungie nerfs arby, players will just move to the next best thing for that hard content. I feel like it would be good to make mods permanently for all weapons that work on champions. Not seasonal mods. Champion mods for all weapons just like scavenger mods etc.

          • It’s a vicious cycle. People use the best thing, thing gets nerfed. People use next best thing. Then an old thing gets buffed so it’s the best now. TLDR The best thing will always be the most used. And bungie largely balances based on usage rate

          • Because Bungie can’t balance to save their lives. It’s a constant cycle of “too powerful” and then “too weak”… “too much” and “not enough”….. pretty sure any play testing in house is nonexistent.

            • They hype the new season/DLC, including it’s weapons, and throw us some temporary buffs……….Only to take them away over and over. That’s what they do.

            • Also with particle Deconstructor last season it wasn’t as easy to tell what the buff would look like in the sandbox in the long term. Now that the mod is gone, Bungie can get a better idea of the weapon’s true power following the buff. And they feel it’s just a bit stronger than they want it to be.

              • My charged nade will drop a lost sector boss typically in one shot and with just a basic SMG and all the buffs that come along with my wells I'm pretty much a wrecking machine. I've never felt more powerful actually. As a matter of fact I find the older strikes and activities like lost sectors and dungeons to be a relative joke compared to the new content. There are balance issues with things for sure, and I'm not a fan of as how the difficulty levels gets increased (adept, heroic, legendary, master, GM) mobs just become bullet sponges and you're directed to more specific weapons and builds ... but I just felt like handing out binkies and tissue paper when reading this post.

              • Its because they whine about “power creep.” It’s incredible that that’s their excuse, it’s like their just throwing their hands up and saying: “We can’t do it guys, we don’t have the imagination to be innovative with weapons and abilities and we’re just gonna keep crapping out the same guns year after year and you’ll keep farming them because you’re addicted.”

              • "Power Creep" Thats their reason for us never being allowed to feel powerful anymore since Season of Opulence. That was peak guardian strength and its been downhill from there. The initial nerfs there I understand but we should be allowed a variety of good weapons and exotics for just a little while before the nerf hammer bonks them all back to the vaults.

                  • Kind off topic but I dont get why they just dont buff erianas damage for pve by like 20% and also give it the ability to to have higher effect against non matching shields. Not one shot as the arbalest is as that is its exotic perk but certainly let it behave somewhere between non matchmake and matchmake. That would introduce more variety for AB scenarios without arbalest having to be the absolute must generally speaking.

                  • Doesn’t really seem too bad. It’s still gonna pop barrier shields in one hit and still ignore all shields. It’s still going to be a top tier option as long as it functions like that.

                  • I only used it because I could run barrier/overload or barrier/unstop WITHOUT running double primaries or a glaive. Not sure which one is worse.

                    Lack of forward thinking on their part in my opinion and I agree there should be competition between exotics instead of the go to option to always nerf/buff and nerf again.

                      Arbalest will always be popular because it is played to avoid having to deal with matchgame, and on top of that it can break a champion's barrier instantly. In addition, legendary weapons (except bows and maybe scouts) feel very weak against minor (red bar) enemies in grandmasters. Most primary weapons are just champion stun tools and nothing else, but arbalest can be everything and frees a slot for a better primary. Especially in future seasons when bows are overload again so you can pair a good GM legendary primary which bows definitely are with arbalest.
