honestly, the only real problem I have is the amount of symbols. like 25 is too many, my team can't even decide what we want to call the darkness symbol, I can't imagine lfg teams doing the same callouts. from what I remember lfging vog people couldn't agree on aethon oracle callouts. I feel if you don't have a usual raid team of clan, lfg is going to be a pain. not to mention that 3rd encounter requires a lot of coordination with everything that needs to happen. haven't tried boss yet, but so far 3rd encounter was the only part that I thought was needlessly complicated.

yeah, I get that. like VoG there will be standardized call outs. but it's subjective to say "all" teams use those specific callouts. I know my team doesn't, but we are also a pre-made team. however, there will still be those who either don't have/use reddit or any other way of communication. so they won't have a diagram on hand. there will also be those who will want to use thier own callouts, like in VoG. I have had people legit just leave because we wanted to do location instead of numbers in the past. I also feel like if you need to have a picture showing all the symbols and their names, the thing is too complicated. because while clans raid weekly, those using lfgs may not, so they won't memorize the different symbols.

  • We did use numbers in the 2nd encounter as we did the contest mode and that way it was sometime easier for another player to jump in and destroy an oracle. And then that just stuck for some reason, lol.

Hey, more power to you.👍 Just shows there are different ways to do the encounter. 👍

  • I know that it's more complicated in normal mode but we just got used to that system though doing the day one raid.

  • I gotcha, dude. It goes with something I’ve said for a long time when I used to be a raid Sherpa in D1. People have different ways that are better for them for raid encounters. We all learn to do it differently. What works for one group, may not be the best way for another group. I’m just glad you guys found a system that works for you. The beauty of asking other players what system they prefer on those encounters means if I’m not familiar with the system being used, I can learn it. You never know when you are going to learn something you like better than what you already are doing. 👍

  • Everyone has their own ways to do each encounter. So far I've seen like 5 different strategies to do the GoS boss and I'm sure there's more. I learn each time I raid with an lfg group. It's defo a good experience to get out of my own comfort zone and be challenged on my own views how to play the game.

my team did, but we have been raiding together for a while now, so it worked out. the way I always thought of it was: numbers for usual team, position for lfg. but the argument for numbers was they person got confused really easily. I didn't see it but eh. edit: one team in my clan used city names

  • I guess I could see numbers working if you are literally using a clock, going clockwise where back mid is 12, and going by the even numbers.

  • what my team did is we named them 1-6. looked like this: 1 - 2 - 3 back 4 - 5 - 6 front wasn't that bad, got to the point I had to mentally switch gears if I did that raid with another team though.

  • Hey if it works for you guys, more power to ya. I know players who won’t even leave the spawn point in past/future who prefer shooting them inverted.

  • Exactly. That’s something I try to bring up whenever anyone says “go watch a video”. People learn and do things differently all the time. For myself, I tend to try to learn the different ways people are doing callouts so that way if I decide to LFG it, I can literally ask which callouts the group is going by, so that way I’m immediately on the same page. Like past/future, groups I usually run VoG with still refer to them as Venus/Mars. Lol we still refer to the furthest oracles on the Oracle encounter as left/right hidden.

Ok here’s a tip - before you start, ask the group what they call the symbols so you’re all on the same page. Bungie even helps you with the room that has all the symbols and THEIR NAME pops up on radar. Don’t give me this “subjective” picture naming bologna. Come on man. Ref I have to shoot the puck? But back home we call it a disc so therefore I can’t play. Edit to add: I still argue with my clan for Vog callouts in the final boss room. They are adamant that the back middle oracle is “1” and then the callouts go clockwise as “2” then front right is “3”, front middle is “4” front left is “5”, and back left is “6” Confused the hell out of me. But we talked through it and figured it out (mainly I had to adjust to their callouts) and we beat it several times. I’d argue the callouts in Vog are thougher than Vod by quite a bit.

  • the puck/disc thing doesn't really apply here, one is in a setting where it doesn't matter what you call it, while the other does. I could say darkness and mean one of 3 symbols, or triangle and mean one of 4. like some are easy, like brain, scorn/forsaken, the red square, hive eyes, etc. but some are really obtuse and hard to describe. so unless you know thay name you're screwed. depending on team one could call scorn and someone won't know what that means when it's the forsaken symbol. it also depends if they are following a guide, post, or are using the actual callouts.

If you have the capability of arguing validity of analogies on an Internet forum post, you have the capability to google “Vow symbol guide” and using the labeled pictures for a reference point. If you’re not willing to do at least even that, then raids clearly aren’t for you and this is a “you” problem. Sorry bud.

  • there are many different guides to how callouts are done, it depends on the youtuber or reddit post. some guides use description, some use actual names. I don't have as much of a problem with it since I'm in an active clan and have a team I raid with weekly. the problem is that outside of that lfg is going to be near impossible, especially for those who want to get into raiding for the first time.

  • Yea I can’t continue this conversation anymore. The good news is that everything you just said are things that people can do to increase their chances of a successful raid! Join a clan, watch guides, wipe and fail and try again. There’s zero argument you can have that will make me feel any sorrow towards people who want to play end game content, basically blind, and expect a positive experience not to mention a positive result. Especially with streamer culture being so prevalent, you almost have to choose to ignore the help.
