Anyone else confused that Bungie is charging its players for the "Anniversary"?

I don't really understand the whole Bungie anniversary ordeal, they wrote a statement saying how grateful they are to the community for sticking by them for the past 3 decades and then proceeds to put a price tag on it? "For your loyalty to us over the past 30 years you have the privilege to buy the anniversary pack" vibes is all I'm getting from Bungie at the moment. Every other game developer gives these things away for free, World of Warcraft, Warframe, Ubisoft, Activision, ect. So why is Bungie taking the greedy route and charging us for it? Genuinely scratching my head at the greed here considering it's meant to be an anniversary celebration...but you have to pay for being a supporter?

  • They’re a business and charge money for their work. One can make the argument that it’s “overpriced” or “not worth it” but that’s a different discussion. I don’t get this notion everything they do has to be free.

  • The money is their anniversary gift from the players to them 👍

  • Lol, not confusing at all. Bungie has been the 'scientology' of games companies for a while now. Is why you have some players defending/encouraging the greed cos they think they'll be picked as Bungie's Tom Cruise....

  • Knowing today’s bungie, I’d be more confused if they didn’t.

  • You don't have to buy the Anniversary edition. I guess car manufacturers are greedy. I mean why charge more for a Supercharged Hellcat upgrade? Based on your reasoning, I should get it free if I owned a Dodge Aspen station wagon.

    • Would you complain about the Content Pack if it would be named differently?

      • You want free? Then you get stuff equal to solstice and Halloween events. Guess who will then be complaining about that? You.

It’s hardly greedy for a business to want money for what they’re selling.

            • The 30th Anniversary pack included free content and paid content. If you buy the DLC you get more content. I don't find this difficult to comprehend.

              • There appears to be plans to have free stuff for the community too. I have no issues with paying Bungie for their work. Bungie could have easily just made the anniversary just a free emblem and called it a day.

Annual anniversaries are what free among other games of the type and they typically make loot more easily accessible. Think more along the lines of solstice of Heroes in that comparison. The 30 year anniversary isn't just current in game loot dropping more often, a lot of it is ground up models built to reference older Bungie games. Personally, with this long season in mind, I'm okay with paying for this anniversary content. I just wish it wasn't bundled with cosmetics I'm not really interested in. I don't expect everyone to be as okay with it as I am, I fully empathize with disliking that the dungeon content is bundled with useless cosmetics.

              • Right. Kind of scummy. Maybe they’re having a hard time making ends meet at Bungie.

              • My best guess here is that, well, they will lose a holliday season with the witch queen being delayed. And they wont survive with only this season, because most players will already have done all the content and leave. This keeps them in-game, and they dont lose in a holliday season. Win-win.

              • Dont buy it and i mean that in the most respectful way if u dont like the way bungie is doing something just dont support it ive seen tons of destiny players on this forum mad at bungie about seasons and eververse and now the wichqueen and anniversary content and the horrible cash grab that it is but i know a high percentage will still buy and play the content so what does bungie learn absolutely nothing they will continue to profit and then see how far they can push it

              • You gotta pay to celebrate, tbh the only reason I'm even buying the 30th pack is for the dungeon and nothing else
