So I decided to count the hunters in my last ten matches. It turns out that 66/90 players were hunters. We already know that hunters dominate in PVP, but that seems a little bit excessive.

They are the most casual-friendly(easy to use). 2/3 of the PvP population are hunters and for some reason, Bungie thinks it's fine.

2 RepliesThe majority of players are Hunter mains. It’s the most popular class. I don’t know why people are surprised when they run into a lot of hunters in this game.

They have the fastest class ability that doubles as a engagement escape when losing. Are a mobility based class, currently have the best and most consistent counters aka shatterdive Exotics are more often than not pvp focused and they generally can cover all playstyles easily, from stealth assassin, to distance sniper, run and gun and cqc speacialty. Imo Titans are great close quarter but have no stealth and their ranged play ability wise is much more limited. Imo Warlocks have fantastic ranged play but close quarter capability is heavily limited compared to the others (ability wise) I also feel Warlocks jumps are not pvp friendly outside of blink but even that isnt what it should/could be. Even to lay down a rift which is its saving grace has quite a slow activation. In these comparissons Im mainly focussing on abilities outside of super as all 3 have decent supers for pvp some more than others but for the most part imo again supers are ok balance wise. So essentially hunters are more popular as they offer viability regardless of playstyle, that and they have capes😉
